  • where to get the nitrogen cylinder like that

  • That box is sweet.

  • Very Cleaver !

  • Hey Vention! nice video, I love the idea of growing things at home. Just an unrelated question for you, your live in an apartment like me, do you get any problems with noise from neighbours upstairs? I get a lot of footfalls, driving me nuts! I want to move to somewhere with a garden, so I can grow things and my son can play. Not the biggest fan of apartment living!

Thanks I've always enjoyed growing things as well. If it weren't for the economic collapse I probably never would have gotten around to doing it again.

LOL! A few friends of mine were over a couple years back and one of them said "doesn't that bother you?". I was puzzled for a moment, trying to identify what he thought might bother me and then I realized that my neighbor upstairs had walked across the ceiling. I then answered honestly, "No, I guess not". LOL.

I hear water running and some creeks and thumps every so often but I find it oddly comforting. Don't ask me why. Usually I'm not aware of the noise on a conscious level.

Of course that doesn't apply to the weedeaters from hell though. I work nights and just about the time I'm dropping blissfully to sleep, The yard maintenance guys show up with their weedeaters (every tuesday). I think they hold a square dance right by my bedroom window.

I can almost hear the caller singing

♫"Now dig that twine into the Grass♫,

♫ fling those rocks up on the Glass♫" (while playing his fiddle).

I groan curses a them while pulling my pillow over my head.

One thing I can suggest is that if you're shopping for an apartment, ask for a unit that doesn't have kids in the floor above you. My neighbors is a retired guy. He walks across the floor but kids jump up and down violently. I'd hate to have kids living upstairs.

  • Weird. Collective unconscious of the preppers.

Good friend of mine just started working on a cold house.

  • nice job!

  • Thats a really cool and good design. I hope you have success with your garden this year.

  • Where do they sell visqueen?

  • @vivaloriflamme, Visqueen is just a brand name for heavy plastic.

@ Vention, Fantastic job, really nice workmanship. Go ahead and post here on Youtube! I would watch the series.! Check out the free plastic at furniture stores really heavy. Free for taking.

  • heck its already spring here, but great idea

  • beast12101

Ya I kept getting diverted but it's nearly finished now. If I don't benefit from it in the early part of the year, I'm sure I'll get some use out of it this winter. I've been mulling over this idea for several months.

  • A couple rolls of clear visqueen and black plastic are great survival items to have on hand. If the SHTF you should secure one layer of visqueen on the outside of your deck openings, using lath to make sure the edges were windproof, and another layer on the inside. The air between the layers will give plenty of insulation against the cold, and as long as you had decent light you could grow stuff in your deck garden.

Black plastic is used to 'sterilize' inground garden areas prior to planting.

Awesome idea. Black plastic is cheap. Might as well pick some up. I'll put it on the list.

When food gets expensive I imagine I'd have no trouble convincing the home owners association to allow us to enclose our decks and turn them into real green houses. If I'm still living here when that time rolls around I'll see about doing that.

  • cool idea......did you figure enough growing hieght?.....

  • ironhead41

Ya I think so. I did all the measuring a couple weeks back though so I can't remember exactly. Most of the things I grow in the greenhouse will be shorter things like lettuce, green onions & radishes.

The way it is, it should be even with the fence, so all winter I could grow a nice deck garden (possibly with a little help from a grow light that I'll put on a timer). And since it's behind the fence most of my neighbors won't even know it's there.

  • Love how you think!

  • Neat!

  • great design I really like it! *****
