The sets were always made by Nintendo. They worked together with WTC but eventually they decided that they did not need WTC anymore to continue producing the cards in the western world. Most of the cards are translated from their Japanese version. (But I do agree that the cards have gotten ugly over the years.. tho a lot of cool artwork is still arround on the cards and mostly on the support cards.. always loved trainer card artwork by Ken)

Hey, you're not going crazy, honestly. Wizards of the Coast made the absolutely best cards, it went all downhill once Nintendo took over. Neo is one of my favorite sets, the artwork really is beautiful.

Neo Genesis is one of my favorite Pokémon sets including my favorite Pokémon, Typhlosion. The artwork throughout the whole series is much nicer than the ones released later.

If you're interested in the Heart Gold and Soul Silver generation Pokemon you should check out the next set coming out called HeartGold and SoulSilver. (I have some videos of me opening a SoulSilver JPN box) I'd rate the artwork as my top 3 in any set. I'm sure you'd be impressed too.

Yep, my interest slowly began to wane with the release of the Neo sets. By the time E Expedition came around, I had quit completely.

I think my interest waned by the release of jungle/fossil. That's the last time I actually saw any pokemon cards until earlier this year.

For collector's purposes. Think about it. If you got your hands on a 1st Edition Base Set pack, which are worth a bunch, would you keep it sealed knowing the value will remain high, or take a chance to try and pull a Charizard and then end up with a trainer rare?

Chances are, if you buy a 1st edition pack from ebay, it WILL contain a non-holographic. Most likely the people you get them from will know the value of the pack and unfortunately weigh them, then sell the "non-holographic" packs and make the money back.

24 non-holo packs in a box.. and lets say they sell for at least 50 each, will get you 1200 which will virtually redeem the money you spent on the box + you have the holographic packs which will earn you more money. Sad to think about tho=[

That's so weird, they did the same thing with the unlimited Gym sets. They put the rare/holo in a different place when it's unlimited.

If I remember correctly the rare in 1st ed. Neo Genesis packs its the second or third card from the front.

Yeah after the Gym sets, they got all weird with where they put the rares. My few 1st Edition Neo Discovery packs I opened when I was younger and the box I opened a month ago had the rare as the last card... whereas other people who opened unlimited Neo Discovery has had the holos in the 3rd spot or so?

Anyways =] Great seeing an English Neo Genesis opening again, haven't seen one in a while!
