  • this guy is my freaking idol!!!... long live David Childs

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Is there an orchestral version of this? Or is it just written for wind ensemble?

  • I listened to both David Childs and Steven Mead play this and I think David Childs plays it better. Just saying. (:

  • i just died from how awesome this is. then was brought back to life for the same reason. amazing..

  • Fantastic

  • Does anyone know the exact arrangement of this solo????

  • @MrEuphoniumGuy

Try studio-music.co.uk - search for Pantomime and you will find the solo part as well as available arrangements for Wind Band (this) and Brass Band.

Can't send a link in the reply - since I get an Error when I try. So Google studio-mucic.co.uk.

  • @ssckerl Thanks i am trying to find a solo to play for a competition and might play this one!!!

  • Wow talk about taking your breath away David's tone is amazing!!

  • Absolutly LOVE this song! bought it for kicks and giggles and can get through half of it and will eventully play it professionally! however if someone has this on MP3 or something i would GREATLY love to have this recording!

  • Look at this this is awesome

  • omg. david childs is sucha good player... o_o

  • I think Dave is a great inspiration to all us 19 year old players, I learnt so much from him!

  • EFF YOU DAVID CHILDS! I KNOW YOUR DAD WAS A WORLD FAMOUS EUPHONIUM PLAYER AND ALL, BUT THAT GIVES YOU NO RIGHT TO SHOW ALL OF THE OTHER 19 YEAR OLD EUPHONIUM PLAYERS UP! JERK!

  • What a amazing sound!!

  • David Childs RULES ,on the note I love euphonium

  • Too many glisses played that aren't written. It's not style, it's laziness. Still, makes a change to hear Boy Childs play something than Hot Canary or Brilliante.

  • This is a awsome piece...Sparke is a genius and David CHilds Pulls it off beautifully.

I'm gonna put on a video in a few days me playing long long ago i'd love if u'd watch it

  • @Moosician1 My videos Now up and running i'd love u'd watch it :)

  • This is a great recording...Childs is such a talented player. Does anyone know what note this piece ends on? It sounds like concert Eb...I can't hit anything above C

  • @Tnova92 concert Eb. high as hell too.

  • ...for me it´s the best Euphonium Player because in his Sound you can feel what he´s feeling!! I play on the EBBC2010 and will hope that he comes to this Festival!!

  • I love the fast part ending at 7:15 Im gonna try to play this for next years solo and ensemble for my senior year..... but idk.

  • @sxf0419 Yeah Im trying to play this for my freshman year its not easy. For a recital and its really hard

  • I was privilaged enough to play this solo with the Old Dominion University Wind Ensemble back in 99. I was so very nervous. David Childs plays wonderfully but I have to agree with Jipoman that I've heard a much better performance from Steven Mead on this. Roger Behrend remains my favorite euphonium soloist. Got to study under him from 96-later half of 97. Great experience. But....love Childs. Great stuff

  • the beginning octave jumps sound very forced and not smooth. i do like that there is no gap between the 2 notes, but there is a big popping sound on each one.... it just doesn't sound smooth enough

  • I am sure, you can not do this.

  • actualy, i can. not this well but i can do it. i myself am a euphonium player, and i am perfectly capable doing it. whether i can play it as well as him doesnt mean i cant make criticisms about it

  • I don't like to admit it, but he's right. But when you listen to the whole song you have to admit that David Childs is a fantastic musician.

    greetings from the Netherlands.

  • Impossible to smooth it out that much. Besides. Dont diss the euph :O its pure win :P

  • I'm looking forward to play with that orchestra :)

  • great player, but i think steven mead is better

  • en mi opinon uno de los mejores solistas (euphonium) mis respetor para usted david childs exelente solista.. suerte en todo y muchos exitos..

  • No, that's true! He's better!

  • Hi Søren,

    This is great! cya around!

  • i just started about a year ago so i get chills when i hear this

  • You'll get there eventually. Well, no offense, but I don't think ANYONE will. :D But I'm sure you'll be incredible one day, if you focus.

  • It annoys me when people say ONE OF the best in the world. Completely incorrect. I'm glad to see someone who shares my opinion of his abilities.

  • Ok, let's say - my favorite!

  • ahhh we had a concert last night where Philip Sparke actually came to our town and conducted this, Hymn of the Highlands, and we premiered Neapolitan Holiday, Great Piece!

  • tone is absolutely wonderful...childs playing "a little prayer" is wondeful as well.

  • You should try and find a recording of Stef Pillaert with BB Willebroek. That's a great version of this piece!

  • HAHA!! Woo~ 1 of the best versions in youtube!!

  • the beginning of this piece sounds so graceful peaceful and almost sad, then when you hear the motif it starts to get bouncy.

  • This is going to be my solo for my senior year in high school. It's by far my favorite song on the Euphonium.

  • this song is very beautiful and the soloist is absolutely amazing. my high school band is playing this (we have to bring in a soloist to play it)

  • still need a soloist to do it?

  • desperate for a gig arent you :)

  • super

  • anyone can send me this sheet music?

  • I could, but i won't! You should buy it from a music shop near you or from an internettstore. We wouldn't like Philip to stop writing this music, would we?

  • a friend of mine is playing a solo like this in solo and ensemble best of luck to her she has amazing musicianship and tone she can handle it.

  • omgsh— flawless solo in the beginning.Amazing tone.

  • Nice solo

  • My Besson Euphonium is ten years older than he is!

  • Nice^^

  • Love the ending and the Eb5 that just sings.

  • oh wow nevermind i just saw the date it was recorded lol

  • An insane performance, given the fact that he's 19 on this recording:)

    Prodigdy? Yes, i think so:)

  • how do you know he's 19?

  • He might be 18, but he would turn 19 during the year...

and i found out by comparing his birthdate to the date the recording was made:)

  • It is true

  • It is so weird, i was just watching your videos.

  • oh hell yeah best euphonium soloist playing the best solo ever

    ...it's like bathing in chocolate

  • This is one of the Better and Harder to find recordings of Pantomime. I really like this one, it's just that my favorite performance of this solo is the one Frey did with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. It's on Majestic Journey.

  • Hej Jacob

Håber det går godt i "Fyyynske" og at du kunne lide klippet ?!

    Mange hilsner

    Anders's far

  • Hey , søren , det er anderses gamle skole kammerat jacob ;)

  • ur rite sometimes he does rush cuz most of the time he plays he does it by memory so he can rush without seeing the music their.

  • david childs has such a great sound

  • Love it
