I agree with you 100 percent Bobby. I hate that producers will pull a script out of their asses then try to slap some pretty effects and explosions and hope to make it better. Its the same with the really popular vloggers that you just can't see how they're popular. *CoughfredCough!* They act stupidly and try to go for immature humor, and just make ya want to punch your own forehead until you can't remember your own name or at least until you can hear the squish!!
I think nostalgia is a fine way to bring people into a movie in theory, but I hate that it seems like they don't even try to make most of these adaptations good. It definitely cheapens the joy of the original.
1. Easy Bake Oven. The food wasn't even good!
2. Can't think of one, but I'm worried about Where the Wild Things Are.
3. They usually end with the word face. Severity of the word before it depends on the cause of insult. I know, creative, right?
I agree, Nostalgia is a good way to get people in the door, but I would rather have a great movie that has nothing to do with my old childhood memories, then have a terrible movie that doesn't bring justice to the old lovely things from my past.
I'm a little worried about WtWTA too, but from what I've seen it looks just indie/artsy enough to be a good film which brings new life to an old classic.
I know what the duality thing is about, as I've been following your videos. That's what I was talking about, one personality (the color one) simply didn't seem to have the same attitude as in previous videos.
I agree with you on the points, but thought you were trying too hard with your color-self (I understand you were representing someone, but it simply didn't seem like you).
Haven't seen the wolverine movie...sadly I fear it's the type of movie where the trailer ends up being better than the movie itself.
Street fighter, mortal combat (and its sequel), inspector gadget, probably G I Joe, etc. all great examples of poorly made franchises.
It's not supposed to represent me as a whole, that's the point of doing the duality thing, they are both played up aspects of myself, one being annoyingly rational, and one being annoyingly sheep-like.
1) play-doh: dried out too easily or was ruined by mixing colors (not always, but usually).
2) a) Garfield movie (finally gave in and watched it today).Jon needs to be more pathetic. then the sequel? WTF! And b) though it was one of my favs as a kid: the Masters of the Universe (He-Man) movie. What was up with the whole synthesizer plot?
3) Given time to think I could probably find better ones, but a favorite lately that my sister uses (not necessarily an insult, per se): "die in a fire!"
4) I agree with Karen about the Clue movie. I guess I'll also include the Masters of the Universe movie here, even though in retrospect it barely touched on the cartoon. And as far as books, most of the Roald Dahl adaptations were pretty good.
I'm remembering back in the day (80's) when I was playing with toys. It was He-man and the toys went along with the cartoon series, and that was great. Same with GI Joes. No problems. The cartoons were made in conjunction with the toys as a marketing tool, but that was fine. Ninja Turtles is another example, and those original movies were pretty good for me as a kid. But I don't like these big adaptations 10+ yrs later. Wait till they make Tetris the movie or matchbox cars movie.
Agreed, I had low expectations for the film and it didn't even meet those....
I mean come on, Gambit is "The Ragin Cajun" and he failed to speak any broken french or even have a thick accent in that movie.
I hear talk of a Gambit solo Movie, and that the guy who played him in Wolverine will be coming back to play him, I hope to God these rumors are false.
Very, very good points. And definitely: realistic effects can never fix a bad plot.
Some might disagree with this, but in retrospect, the tamagotchi/nano pets/etc. toys weren't all that great. You had to take care of the pet constantly or it'd die/run away. Also the games you could play with your "pet" were often pretty lame.
it is my opinion that Bratz could never have been a good movie because the toy line was so materialistic and vapid.
I think the same thing would happen if you tried to shove barbie into a legitimate movie setting, the story line would be too shallow do do anything with.
WHY RNT U MORE POPULAR????? lolz jst sayin that, but they did actually make a movie, i saw wen i was 5, even then i was completely amazed on how bored i got while watching it, and how HORRIBLE it was, like i wood rather have my arm licked, chewed, and swallowed by a panda bear, i love it wen ppl find creative ways to compare a worse time to, if that part made sese....ill just click post and stop typing..
nd yes it wood be and when the panda was done my arm wood stay ther for the rest of my life, not being used but just hanging there and i wood still feel it if someone hurt it so i woodnt just like cut it off.
OMG have you ever had ur arm completely numb???its ssooooo weird. i did once i was trying to fall asleep it was around 2:13 am and that was night i ddnt sleep. it was odd but cool and fun but odd. ever happen to u????try it. lol
My favorite movie adaption is Clue, although that might not count since the characters in the game don't really have personalities, and it's a board game, not a video game. But it is a great movie regardless.
Also, did you hear they're making movies out of Candy Land and Monopoly? I'm a bit frightened at the idea.
My favorite movie adaptatiny thingie would probably be the resident evil series. They did a pretty good job translating that game set into a movie series, IMO
and GI Joe is a perfect example of what # 2 was trying to say... uber technological backpacks that give them uber strength, etc? wtf? Was that in the series?
Thanks, I've been meaning to talk about this topic for awhile, when I saw in an sxephil video about the Stretch Armstrong I knew I had my narrative hook

1. Silly Putty. i mean come on, it's really just squishy goo.
2. Chronicles of Narnia... the movies were filtered down, stripped of all meaning, and just over-Hollywoodized...
3. your MOM
4. Lord of the Rings. it pretty much could not have possibly been adapted better... i mean without being 30 hours long...

Nickelodeon Gak was squishy goo, silly puddy at least could be rolled up into a ball and bouced and stuff.

that's true... but it only lasted a few days until it got full of dust and hair and lint... still fun for a while though...

Either way, I agreed with the message.

The thing in my forehead is a scar from a brain tumor removal surgery I had as a very young child.
why did it scar in that particular way? I don't really know, I'm not a doctor.

Currently, my favorite TV-movie adaptation would have to be Get Smart.

That looked like a great adaptation, Never saw it though
