nice lens, ordering mine in a few day's.. the only cons about it is that it's heave and auto focus is pretty slow in low light.. i know this because my friend rented it a few days ago.
a) hook your camera to the laptop and use the EOS Utility on remote, so you can see what we see (as opposed to filming the mirror ... of course everything was backwards in your video...
b) add a couple subtitled facts about the lens if you can.
c) install the lens on the camera so we can get a feel for its weight and size/portability.excellent video nonetheless.
(ps - grip your lenshood at the base instead of the mouth avoids misshape)
@prodigy2k7 Wow, thanks for taking the time to respond to a comment I made over 5 months ago. I kinda (really) don't care. both the 70-200 f/4 and 2.8 have handled large amount of rain without problems.
@N6600 I think its to reduce the overall length of the lens if it was tradition zoom. It isnt really "telephoto" but it would get long, if the hood is attached and barrel is out for zooming far. If you notice the hood doesnt extend when the barrel is out.
the only flash i have tried with this lens that DID cast a shadow (even without the hood) was the pop-up of my 450D... the on cameraflashes, that can be bounced works no problem...
Somebody's gotta say it.... this "unboxing" stuff is some of the most gay crap on youtube. I can't decide if it's narcissism or fetishism.

I'm new to cameras. Can you zoom with that filter on? Lol no right?

thkhmer,
good unboxing! couple ideas for the next one:
a) hook your camera to the laptop and use the EOS Utility on remote, so you can see what we see (as opposed to filming the mirror ... of course everything was backwards in your video...
b) add a couple subtitled facts about the lens if you can.

its weather proof right?
ANTRASPS3 1 year ago
No I don't think so though it's well-built and sealed. But I wouldn't put it out in the rain or snow for long.
thkhmer 1 year ago
Yes, it is. All L-series lenses are weather/dust sealed.
newyclio 1 year ago
not all... don't know em all right now but from the 70-200's only the version with IS and f2,8 is sealed...i cant remeber
germandude1982 1 year ago
@germandude1982 The IS versions of the 70-200's are sealed, the non-IS versions are not sealed, this includes the 2.8 non-is

@newyclio Wrong. Already explained in another post. -.-

MauiBoy62503 1 year ago
@MauiBoy62503 Wrong. 70-200mm F/4L AND F/2.8 lenses arent weather sealed for example.
prodigy2k7 1 year ago
@ANTRASPS3 Its "weather sealed"...You cant submerge it, but it can handle some rain and whatnot...As long as your body is also "weather sealed"
prodigy2k7 1 year ago
@ANTRASPS3 weather "resistant"

what was the idea and/or purpose of this lens being reversed zoom? is it like...
barrel in = zoom in
barrel out = zoom out
instead of...
barrel in = zoom out
barrel out = zoom in
?

Would this lens work well with a 580EX or a 430EX? (no slave units)
RyanTheTuber 2 years ago
Why wouldn't it?
Terjay 2 years ago
Good question... I was mainly worried if the flash with 580EX/430EX will create some shadows because of the lens hood attached :O

What is the filter size?

There's a lot of videos of ppl 'unboxing' some fancy new item, lens, iphone, etc... I think it's a sexual fetish, like furries.

What kind of filter did you use with the lens?
itsnashhh 2 years ago
this thing you put on the lens, doesnt it take some of the viewfield when it is on 24 mm?
bollockmok 2 years ago
It's a lens hood. It cuts sun flares. No it's not long enough to interfere with the picture.
Anavengertg 2 years ago
Also, the 24-70mm is reverse zoom, so it's fully extended at 24mm, so it is not possible for the hood to interfere.
