@graduateclass08 This IS the original version. John Mellencamp wrote it about growing up in Seymour, Indiana. But, now that you mention it, I can kind of envision Springsteen doing a version of it.
haha...Seymour IN is very small indeed...it always makes me laugh when I see him trying to hitch a ride on I65...yeah he got out of there ...he moved to Bloomington IN--where IU is--a very cool small town indeed--me I live in another small town also in central IN...and like all his music
To all the people who think they live in a small town of only a couple thousand people I just wanted to say i live in a town of less than 600 people......just sayin :P
I love this song, but it's sad to me because it reminds me of my hometown of Lancaster, California that "used to be" a beautiful small town. I still live in Lancaster, but it is not the same. It is now overcrowded, filled with welfare recipients, the pool where I learned to swim is closed, and the skating rink I used to go to is closed. Long live the days when Lancaster, CA "was" a small town!
Takes me back to late 1985/early '86, when I lived in a small town. I was born & raised in that "small" town. It was actually a group of separate cities strung together, but the community exuded a small town atmosphere & feel. "Small Town" was on the pop music chart in late '85/early '86 - from a time when music was lots better, & there was a tidal wave of optimism sweeping the country. After all, the greatest President in American history was residing in the White House! R.I.P., Mr. Reagan.
I was born in a small town, & I can breathe in a small town. Gonna die in a small town. Oh, that's probably where they'll bury me...hey! Ooh yeah, baby. Ooh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah baby! Ooh, ooh (music interlude then fade out)!
Married an L.A. doll & brought her to this small town. Now she's small town, just like me. No I cannot forget where it is that I come from. I cannot forget the people who love me. Well, I can be myself here in this small town, & people let me be just what I wanna be. Ooh, my my yeah baby. Ooh yeah (musical interlude)! Got nothin' against the big town. Still hayseed enough to say "Look who's in the big town!". My bait is in a small town, oh that's good enough for me!
I was born in a small town, & live in a small town. Gonna die in a small town. Oh, those small communities. All my friends live in small towns. My parents live in the same small town. My job is so small town, provides little opportunity. Educated here in a small town, taught to fear Jesus in a small town. Used to daydream in this small town, another boring romantic, that's me! Well, I've seen it all in this small town, had myself a ball in a small town.
proud to be American, God bless our nation and the land of the free, definitely the home of the brave & the land of the free, it didnt come cheap either
This song makes me never want to leave home. Nothing but memories, good or bad. Makes me sad to know I'll have to move on. I'll still have photo albums though. I'm glad I'm from a small town
I MAY TRAVEL HAVE TRAVELED THE WORLD AND LIVE IN TEXAS , BORN LAFAYETTE INDIANA, AND WITH FAMILY IN CASS COUNTY, WHITE COUNTY THE HEART OF THE US YOU CAN NEVER GET IT OUT OF YOUR BLOOD THAT WHO YOU ARE A HOOSIER !!!
This sucks! I hate small towns. Especially small Midwestern towns in Indiana w/ an overrated university -- IU Bloomington! Song really sucks -- nightmare in B-flat!
It's funny how most people spend the first part of their life trying to leave small towns but then the rest of their life trying to get back their. I miss the small town in the Illinois where I grew up. Thanks for this song John
agreed burner i grew up in indiana in the north east part but i love to go to souther indiand and just be out in the middle of nowhere it truly is the spirt of the mid west
I absolutely love this song. Every time I hear it, I'm transported back to where I'm from, Northwest Ohio. Doesn't matter where in the world I am, when it starts, I'm there.
