@panterist. Because the social network soundtrack broke new ground and challenged a genre of music which had become strerile and trite.  This on the other hand is well trodden ground in musical circles and is a bit shallow, and lacking in depth and meaning.

Whereas we can point to a great many soundtracks which are disturbingly similar to this (actually, we can't turn around for falling over soundtracks similar to this), the social network did something disturbing and uncomfortable. The layers of sound defined the film in a very strange way, and it's contribution to the atmosphere was staggering.

@SeventhCircleID There is much to be said for breaking new ground. The Social Network was a landmark film, both in terms of brusque script and chilling soundtrack. I have no qualms as to the Academy's decision. However, to call this shallow, lacking in depth and meaningless is a complete and utter display of pretension, myopia and a lack of genuine thought. Orchestral arrangement is more difficult than electronic. A deep precedent genre examples is no grounds for incompetence.

The first time i heard this song in the Movie it went directly into my Soul. Avatar might be the best movie in Graphic but for the Music .. THIS is the best one ever! I might sound childish but i think it will be hard to ever create a better song .. cause this one here perfectly displays one thing : Friendship *sights and smiles while listening*

i love this !!! jhon powell did his best with this movie. i loved the movie and i own both the bluray version and soundtrack of the film....Way to go Jhon powell!!! this song really defines the dragon's and berks friendship :)
