  • I was born in 1991...but my mom, who was born in the 50's, played the oldies radio station all the time when I was a kid...I heard songs like this one, and for some reason, they stuck in my head...Now I'm on a YouTube quest to find songs such as "Mrs. Brown, You've Got a Lovely Daughter" by Herman's Hermits, "Little Red Riding Hood" by Sam the Sham and the Pharoahs, "Wonderful World" by Sam Cooke, and this one...thanks Mom :)

  • This joint is hOt!!!

  • This isn't a remaster. It's a Rerecording!

  • @Thadesgal Funny, Napster listed it as a remaster.

  • Jerry Lewis's son is pretty good at music,I think.:D

  • I always liked this song, and when I found the Beatles's Bad To Me ....this sounds incredibly similar ....good job Gary ...great song ...

  • I love this song and I wasn't around at the time.

  • I hated school dances! I was such a geek, but in that Fall of '68 this song came up on the list and SHE came over to ask how I was and 'you probably don't want to dance do you?' Her name was Gloria. And we not only danced. We went for pizza later and I ended up marrying her.

  • i have the original thanks to a nice youtuber, message me for the song

  • Like Gary Lewis a lot. Rick Nelson was the most underrated rock star ever.

  • Gary Lewis is outstanding! His band had that rich musical quality that made some popular 60s bands standout! That voice was also amazing!! I love the genuineness of music from that era. I was born in 75' and when I went to High School in the early 90's I was mostly into the Alternative and British Rock & Ska of the mid 80's to early 90s. When I'd listen to the radio; however, I always tuned into the Kool Oldies station in my hometown, which was actually a true Oldies station.

  • At that time, I absolutely loved listen to Gary's songs. This one and 'Count Me In' are amazing, but actually all of his songs are good.

  • A great oldie. I loved this song a lot and still have the 45! I liked the sound of this group a lot. Thanks for this post.

  • I have a compilation of 1965 hits that was released in 1990. Most of the songs are the remasters--This Diamond Ring, Last Chance to Turn Around, Little Honda, etc. Some of the songs sound better with the updated instruments, even accounting for the new versions' attempts to sound close to the original. i.e. Robert Knight's Everlasting Love--67 versus 90 version. Cherish was another one...

  • Love this song--that is one thing about YTube, can hear all the songs of my youth--thanks

  • I love it. I have, at least 5 LPs of Gary L. Is he alive?

  • I love this song!

  • I loved this song so much. Thank you for putting this out. Great post.

  • Excellent audio clarity!

  • This is a great version, never heard it before.

  • I wonder if this redone was with the Wrecking Crew? Sure sound like Carol Kane bass lines here.

  • i was 14 at the time this came out my my the memories young lust

  • Love this Song, way ahead of it's time.

  • I found one from The 60s Album. It is a compilation of songs that was released in 2009 but I "believe" it uses the original versions. Look for it this evening under Gary Lewis and The Playboys - This Diamond Ring (original version)

  • @John1948Five Thanks so much. Will do.

  • You think you will upload the original? No one yt has it in good quality. Sigh.

  • Respond to this video... I would if I had it. I will look around for it.

  • @BILLKAULITZGIRL4EVER I have upload an HD version. You can either find by searching for "This Diamond Ring HD Stereo Version", or by going to my channel. :)

  • @BILLKAULITZGIRL4EVER *uploaded

  • Thank you so much for posting this. I grew up on this music back in the 60's. I loved it then and I love it now. Again thanks so much!!!!!!!!

  • It is true that Leon Russell had his fingers in this tasty pie. Gary Lewis did in music what his father could not do. And that's an admirable thing to be remembered for.

  • One of Leon Russell's best session appearances!

  • John1948 This is not the original 1965 version.

Thanks for all the great music!!!!!!

  • @fntime You're right. That's why it's labled "1990 Remaster."

  • @John1948Five Thanks for all the great music

    you offer!!! Thanks again.

  • @John1948Five It should be labelled "1990 remake" not "1990 remaster" That's not nit picking either...one is right, the other isn't.

  • @Rogerrumjet And you are the expert that decides which is which. I think I'll just go along with Napster and leave it alone.

  • thank you I so enjoyed this

  • SOUNDS GREAT! ..Thanks! :)

  • he is a picture of jerry lewis. The face.

  • John West was a personal friend of mine. Does anybody know where he is now?

  • All Great Hit's

  • I love this song.

  • John...my sister died two years ago on July 4...so I came for a listen as Gary Lewis was her group...she adored them.

  • Loved this song when i was a teenager, decades later i still love it, but now the lyrics sadly ring true to me.....

  • @F111C4EVER "ring" true. that'd be funny if i wasn't so empathetic.

  • I favorited it before it gets YT'd ! This is a GREAT remaster! Thanks for this upload!

  • It's always easy to assume that if someone has a famous father in showbiz that made it easy for the son to "make it". But the fact is that Gary Lewis & the Playboys were major recording artists in the world of sixties pop music. They had their own sound and a number of hit records. Gary made it on talent, not nepotism.

  • love thissong,i've even got my kids 2 like and sing it xxx

  • This song was written by Al Kooper, right?

  • Yes, it was.

  • @John1948Five I first heard this song on a pirate radio station in Dublin, Ireland, in 1965 and was greatly impressed by it. For many years I did not know who the performers were until one day I saw a movie on TV starring Jerry Lewis. In a certain scene, Jerry Lewis' character is dejected so he puts a record on the turntable and is immediately cheered up on hearing it - it was "This Diamond Ring" by Gary Lewis and the Playboys... and that was how I solved the mystery!

  • @John1948Five al kooper said he didnt mind getting a hit but he ddint like the way gary lewis did it because it was supposed yo be a slow R&B number

  • *** Does the jerk ! ***

  • I remember this tune from the sixties.

  • this song rocks

  • I'm posting this to several friends.

    Thank you.

    5*****.

    Jennie.

  • hmm ...

I just noticed that this song has an early Yardbirds-esque sound to it, no?

... kinda reminds me of "For Your Love", especially on the minor-key verse parts.

  • I was just thinking that

  • myspace would have the original..this version is a'ight.

  • cute short song :)

  • Nice sound quality.

  • Fabulous remix

  • awesome song love me some gary

  • True it's not the original, but who cares? It sounds fantastic with all the melodic beat typical of the '60s pop music! I grew up with & danced to music like this. So much better than most of the junk out there these days

  • Remake or not... this version is fantastic.

  • gracias por subir buena musica desde mexico

  • thanks for uploading!!

  • Not sure if this is the more mature Gary singing here but this is not the original version.

  • I agree, and I could tell immediately.

  • This is a remake of the song...not the original.

  • How can you tell?

  • Because I have the original 45 and it doesn't sound like this. This is one of those original artist redos

  • Any chance you can upload the original? If you can even get into mp3 format and email it that would be great.

  • Send me your email address...I think I have this in mp3 format.

  • I don't understand it. YT blocked the new version I made with the mp3 you sent me. It was the exact same video as this with just the audio track switched. They say it MAY be owned by WMG. Thanks anyway Teresa.

  • @teresa958 u r right this sucks sucks.

  • Gary still oes a good show, I saw him live in 2006

  • i first heard this on the keith skues show on bbc easten counties. pity it did not make the british charts

  • The Jonas who? ;P
