Hey COOL, this is filmed up by Birken, right near Birken Lakeside Resort!! (in the trees around 1:00) good spot to drank a few brews by the lake and watch the trains roll by. Blrproperties. net
I live on bowen island across from lions bay and its 3-4 km from the mainland across howe sound, but you can hear the horns really clearly from my house.
In the last angle why is some dude on the back of the train? He looks like an employee but would he need to do that theres nothing inbetween lion's bay and N.V, its crazy?
Good eye! Ya that's actually the conductor. The train was so short that day that he just waited until it passed by so that he could restore north siding switch Brunswick to its normal position.
Nice video. It's great to see BC Rail from so many different vantage points.
I don't understand why their passenger service went to Rocky Mountaineer instead of Via. Rocky Mountaineer's prices and schedules are way out of line with the needs and wants of the average Canadian or tourist.
That is very true. It is called the "Whistler Mountaineer" so I'm assuming they're target marketing those wealthy people who stay at the 5 star resorts in Whistler. I wish the Cariboo Prospector was still in operation - I'd be hitting that up all the time when I want to go skiing!
Yes exactly! It's a shame they can't bring them back. I always love to hear the classic K5 on an NS or CSX unit too! (though becoming more and more rare)
Derek Thanks for the info update ...

They've only got the 2 Dash 9's? No wonder the train is short, 28-30 cars is all 2 dash nines can pull up the hills to Birken and Mons.

Even though BCR is now under CN, is this route still used? It's another awesome video!

service may end next year - we will know in 2009.
archerofloaf 3 years ago
really?! that's really a shame. If I get enough money I'm going to have to bring BCR back to life and just run trains just for the heck of it :P
ATributeToBCRail 3 years ago
better start getting the money -lol

I've been hearing from some of the guys in Lillooet that it'll be a sub-lease to a shortline operator like RailAmerica or Omnitrax.
enr3870 3 years ago
replying to my own reply. If it is RailAmerica, hopefully they don't screw things up like they did with the E&N.
enr3870 3 years ago
really? I haven't heard anything yet about a sub-lease... Ya Vancouver Island has had its railways reduced enough!
ATributeToBCRail 3 years ago
end of an era - the company was going down due to government debt.
