  • I'm hypnotized by the beauty

  • Sweetness & Light is one of those songs you never want to end. It could be twenty minutes long and I'd never tire of it.

  • Speaking of the Cocteau Twins, I always think of Lush when I hear their song "Alice".

  • 3:16 is when the party starts :D

  • Saw them at Preston Polytechnic, along with Spitfire. Beautiful night out and one of the best nights of my youth.

  • just an amazing groove, i miss lush

  • was lucky enough to catch Lush play a couple of times. really a sorely missed band.

  • There needs to be a music revolution...or a time machine. Whichever happens first. I was born in '92, and I really wish I had been around during the new wave era.

  • Starting @ 3:24 listen very carefully for the next 37 second to the right audio channel. You will hear Miki playing some really unique syncopated rythm & chord sounds. BTW it's more defined when listening through on the ear headphones than regular audio speakers; well it is to my middle aged ears.

  • Ridiculously good performance... Lush burned so intensely for such a short time...

  • Brilliant band! Who would have thought this kind of sound would disappear from the scene, seemingly forever?

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @drbiggs99 your absolutely right!!

  • woah..

  • Miki & Emma, you really need to come back...2 much sh!t out there now, and Pa-leese release a DVD of ALL your shows.

    radio s^cks sh!t

  • @drbiggs99 you are so right, rock these days is so uninspiring. A live DVD would be Lush-ous!

  • Who cares...I could beat-off to this forever...and i mean that in a Positive-Symbolic-Metaphoric way,of course.

  • Comment removed

  • @transcendrage1 comment not removed by me! I'm sure she still has what it takes, and I would love to see her and Emma give it another shot!

  • I really wonder what Miki looks like now. haha. the remaining three of this band are all on seperate paths.

  • Lush must return. The masses demand it.

  • The drummer killed himself and Miki's working as a corporate secretary now.

  • Yes, I saw them in San Francisco in 1990. I was able to hang out with them thanks to their label rep.

  • Yes, I some in San Francisco in 1990. I was able to hang out with them thanks to their label rep.

  • @rhayader0625 Holy hell! People actually complain about Miki or make fun of her? That's funny to me. She's is stunningly beautiful and really talented. Haha I'm 26 and shes in her 40s now but I still have my dream of getting married to her.

  • @wisesatyr72 What the fuck are you on about?

  • Excellent Band !! Saw them at The Glass House in Pomona with Failure as the opener, Great show

  • I saw Lush in Atlanta, at the Masquerade. I don't recall seeing cameras though. Of course that was a long time ago!

  • @budrow888 I saw Lush open up for the Cocteau Twins in Los Angeles, December 1990.

  • @BahmanG Wow, I wish I could have seen that show. Sounds like the perfect dream ticket!

  • @BahmanG Lucky!!!

  • CHRIST! I can't .....

  • lush always reminded me of velocity girl. both were great bands.

  • I think it was recorded in Atlanta, i have the full broadcast somewhere; they aired Sweetness & Light, 500 and Ladykillers and an interview with some kind of animated hologram dude.

  • you are the sweetness and the light!!!!!!

  • Love the drumming here :)

  • I love how the music moves Miki so much. It certainly moves me.

  • Saw these guys twice back in the day... still one of the best songs out there.

  • Amazing memories.

We saw Lush in Austin, on Riverside drive. Same night as U2. We skipped U2 to see Lush play.. and guess who showed up.

The Edge.. No joke.. He watched 3 numbers and left VIA the back stage door.

  • @altflea - wow are u shittin me?? when was this? what year? Im in Austin now getting ready for SXSW music! I can only imagine how awesome that was! What was the name of the venue?

  • @altflea Kool, maybe he liked Lush. Or maybe he had an evil plan to unplug the guitar cord and play some solos himself. xd

  • @altflea He probably noticed that their guitars were pre-recorded. At least they seem pre-recorded in this video.

  • @altflea That's O.K., I saw U2 at The Paradise in Boston in '81, and walked out.

  • Man, that's beautiful. Saw them at Lollapalooza 1992. Amidst a sea of these heavy duty guy bands--all of which rocked my world--there were Lush, and at the end of the day they were the band that just melted my heart.

  • I miss Lush so much.

  • The rumor is that they are rehearsing.

  • me Too.....I just wish Miki & Emma would do something together again......They were part of the band that goy me into Shoegaze music......sigh....

  • It is about time that we got a re-packed retrospective collection of Lush's ep's, b-sides etc.

They were great. I still listen to them.

  • this was always kind of their flagship song to me. I miss them

  • I remember seeing the at Lulapalooza back in 91/92, along with Jesus and Mary Chain, Pearl Jam, Ministry,.and Porno for Pyros. Great line up and show.

  • Lucky you. I was too young to go!

  • Nothing ever sounded like Lush. This was a very special band. I will never stop loving their music. Great stuff to sleep to, by the way. Such a shame they only lasted a short time. They never stopped making great original music.

  • @9midwestern9 They were around for quite some time. You're right though. A very special band indeed!!!!

  • @9midwestern9 Agreed, though I think Robin Guthrie's influence on "Spooky" solidified a link between their sound and that of Cocteau Twins. Both great bands.

  • Ah... great memory. This was the 2nd of two wonderful EPs they released on 4AD (the other was "Mad Love" and the album Gala. Seemed like the start of something special. And I had a massive crush on the dark-haired guitarist, Emma Anderson, I remember. Thx for posting this...

  • I second all the sentiments in the above post. :)

  • Lush was and will always be one of the best bands on 4AD. They're simply unforgettable...

  • she is xtrem sexy!!!

  • A beautiful song! I'll never forget it...

    I'll NEVER forget Lush!!

  • Beautiful song! I'll never forget it....

    I'll NEVER forget Lush!

  • far...far away...Lush is one of the best bands from 90's. Their sound is wonderful. So, Ride, Her name is Alive, Hole, Babes of Toyland, Sonic Youth

  • miki in pigtails....sigh.........sooo sexy.

  • in such a 90s way! Love it

  • Man did I LOVE this song back then....

  • If you think the 90's had anything to do with combat boots, you've missed the point.

  • now this song'll put you in relaxing heaven, now if the airraid sirens would just stop for a second

  • Chris Acland's tempo and amplitude are consistent throughout. What a loss. I miss LUSH.

  • 4ad was amazing. I followed Lush touring with Ride in 1990. They took turns opening. What great shows! So intense, so subtle so lush...and Ride was unbelievable

  • That's Good !

  • 4AD had some of the most incredible bands ever. Lush,Cocteau Twins and This Mortal Coil were my favorites.

  • The Pixies and the Throwing Muses are also in my Top 5 bands.

  • Whoa!!! how could i forget the Pixies.

  • Yeah, you scared me there. Plus your acc. name being Pixiessp!

  • whoa..Micki's in pigtails I just noticed...mmmm god she's so fine.

  • like quicksilver or lightning in a bottle. Lush was a special group that had a unique sound and traversed across the rock skyline like a comet. Micki was truly a wonder to behold...anf her slight overbite is soooo sexy.

  • I don't think they wanted to get to big, but they deserved it. I think they wanted to make the music they wanted and deal with people they trusted. Goal Accomplished...saw them twice live

  • Lush is a classic example of what the "corporate" of music missed by trying to push on us, the most sellable denomiator (MSD) Shite. It's an absolute travesty that bands as good as Lush are done because of corporate stupidity.

  • Thanks for posting this. My favourite song from one of my favourite bands. Damn, I miss them. I wonder what Miki & Emma are doing now ...

  • Pound to a penny of shit they're married to surgeons or telly producers or something. You know these middle class types...

  • I can't believe I missed this band in the late 80s. I was heavily into the Euro scene all throughout highschool/university. I can only hope that they do indeed remaster/re-release all their previous albums. Sure, I can dl the mp3's from AD4's site, but I want the CDs, sleeves, etc...

  • Awesome performance. Folks here saying Miki is way off key... maybe a little, but it doesn't alter the spirit of the song AT ALL. Why are people so freakin critical? God, I would pay so much money to have an entire Lush concert on DVD... with their videos as bonus features. The tube clips are cool though... really appreciate you uploading this!

  • I agree with you

  • Yeah, nice upload man, thanks.

  • @Squid3660 RE: Miki singing of key...Common Sense escapes people. Musicians and performers who travel alot, have personal & media appearances, & keep odd hours are very susceptable to various colds, flu's, and viruses. Ever notice how someone's voice sound different when they have a cold or the ful. Perhaps Miki had strep, or at least a sore throat. Regular people call off from work. She was legally bound to perform unless she provided x # of days advance notice rebook stage reschedule the show.

  • @IWANTALEXUS of key a bit but actually this is a great performance as a whole

  • @spikkel70 She's not off key, and learn to spell, idiot.

  • @cathoderoy it's not my native language. How many languages do you master actually? If it's just one, who's the idiot then?

  • @cathoderoy There are lots of idiots that can speak more than one language.

  • @Squid3660 She's not off key...they fucking nailed it, he's hallucinating...

  • oh, Miki you're so fine

you're so fine you blow my mind

    hey Miki! hey Miki!

    #@!

  • god damn, i luv lush

  • When was this video recorded?

  • Some time around 1996, right after Lovelife came out. I was working at a video post production facility in LA at the time and saw this playing on one of the VTR's. I got the tape op to dub me a copy. No idea what production it came from though.

  • Great. Thanks.

  • Nice pirate style. It is this type of forward thinking that enables others to enjoy nostalgia.

    Thanks

  • awesome.

  • She's Japanese and Hungarian.

  • HALF both shes not fully

  • @MountAthos You are basically, just a genuine idiot...Miki sounds fine throughout the entire song, I don't know what the fuck your problem is..."Emma kept praying Miki would get on key..."??? There are some complex harmonies going on there and they're executed perfectly...get your ears cleaned and your attitude adjusted, loser.

  • Yessssssss

  • first band i ever saw live, i was in love with miki and lush, i truly miss this band

  • A sign of low intelligence is when people get bitter about not being able to put people in neat categories. These people make up the bulk of youtube commenters, unfortunately. I wouldn't take them seriously, rhayader.

  • Miki is gorgeousness. Whatever she is. <3

  • LETS SHMOKE ANOTHER ONE....ATHOS

  • Lush live were brilliant, they blew away any shitty proper band like U2 that I was dragged to in the 90s, Miki was a fireball on stage, only saw 'em 4 times but those gigs stand out in my memory. The studio stuff is awesome but live was something else. They didn't realise how good they were, bless 'em.

  • I saw lush in 1997 I think was the year at the House of Blues in New Orleans, La. It was amazingly awesome! Miss this band and sound so much!

  • i NEED to get more Lush. I really love this song. You gotta love shoegaze

  • Spot on with music of the 90;s and 2000;s. So much music is lacking ...music!

I have seen Jethro Tull, Black Sabbath, Carly Simon, Foghat, Stephen Stills, Buffalo Springfield , Tod Rundgren, Mellencamp, Pat Metheny, New Colony Six, Tower of Power, POCO, Ian dury, Lou Reed doing Street Hassles, Bruce Springsteen, (I;m dating myself)and on and on.

I am not old. The music today sux.

  • My son is 20. I'm 53, I brought him up on classic, prog, 80's, 90's music. He and his friends don't even listen to the crap that's produced today. He remembers Lush's Nothing Natural- "the girl with the red hair...."

  • Your efforts to help your Son understand good music, appreciate music, is admirable. Honestly.

  • There has been a high percentage of crap in all eras of music. Before punk came along, all the artists were just obliged to work too hard on the 'music' to make it big, and sooner or later forgot about the other aspects.

As for today's music, the problem to me is the over-compressed mastering, digital distortion added after recording (to be able to call it 'garage'), auto-tuning and so on.

  • naaa.. dude... their voices are trying to find each other

    but hey its LIVE.

the bass drums and guitars are in perfect sync.

  • I long for my 90's having seen Lush preform in Hawaii at Nimitz Hall. What a night!

  • Toe-gazer bands. I miss 'em.

  • I miss the early 90s; was a great time in my life. I love this band. Saw them live before.

  • you are right. things do suck now. movies, music.. had their day and at least we have amazing memories to look back on. i cant imagine being a teenager in this day and age and being subjected to all this gutless music and not having memories of the 80s/90s and music like this:)

  • Yeah, sometimes it's good to be a veteran.

Even nostalgia isn't anymore what it used to be :)

  • lush was only the 2nd or 3rd band i ever saw live. best concert i ever saw. too bad i took it for granted at the time. but at least i saw them. is it just me or do things really suck these days? music, the world, etc etc. i think '97 was the last good year for music.

  • Yea. The 90's were great for music. I got to see LUSH in 92'. It was a treat.

  • Phil King = best bass player alive

  • i always thought the bass in Last Night was incredible!

  • Lord I miss them. So sublime yet so earthy . . . lush reverberates to this day for me.

  • They reverberate perhaps more than you can think : a couple of weeks ago, Miki, Emma and Phil went to the 4AD offices. It was about the idea of reissueing and remastering Lush records. Let's cross our fingers, and keep our eyes peeled for the Seinking Ships forthcoming album featuring Miki on vocals !

  • Thanks for that! Someone else she needs to git her butts in the studio with is Ulrich Schnauss. It seems he often tries to get her vocal feel .I'd flip to hear them together.

  • I'd rather like her to get in studio with Emma and Phil. And why not with another Chris on drums, Chris Cooper (formerly in the Pale Saints) ?

  • Great stuff. Lucky enough to see them live a few times and they were always superb, definitely one of my favourite bands of all time.

  • yes, my favorite lush song!Unlike many others i consider gala their best LP

  • this is awesome. I love Miki's pigtails. god I miss them. Why can't we have a DVD of this concert, obviously it was pro shot and fabulous!

  • maby they will do that

give you're vote on their fansite lightfromadeadstar, orrg

this site is also visited by Miki sometimes telling about her memories from the Lush band

  • HOT!!! how i loved the shoegazing ladies.

  • god i remember being in the audience at one of these concerts and just feeling so psyched

  • ...out

  • Just pure class is all i need to say.

  • Great song, great performance, By the time they toured Spooky they had become a really tight, great sounding Live band - a world away from when they were doing small pubs and university bars in their early days.

  • Sweet love watching Miki move well love watching Miki period!

  • It doesn't get much better than that. Brilliant.
