  • hi fred!

  • they both kick ass !!!

  • 305 blows

  • I like both cars! Nice video!

  • 305 4 bbl. in an 82 Z28 had 145 horsepower. Even the cross fire injection 305 in the TA only had 165 and it was the top hp motor for those cars. I don't know where they got it had 185 horsepower from, but it is not true.

  • I just restored a 1982 camaro pace car and am looking to sell it if anyone wants it. Put in brand new 383 motor and 350 tranny on it but have the old motor.

  • I just restored a 1982 camaro pace car and am looking to sell it if anyone wants it. Put in brand new 383 motor and 350 tranny on it but have the old motor.

  • these cars handle great. swap that slow as balls 305 out with a mild 350 and you have a great performing car

  • Had an '83 Z. Loved it. NO BODY ROLL on hard corners!! Watch again - can't see either of them pitch up more than a couple degrees. SAWEEEEET.

  • 0-60 in under 7 seconds is BS. They were like 8+ seconds.

  • Awesome back to the past!!!

  • Do i hear the Christine soundtrack at 2:50 ?

  • kitt is awesome

  • If it was 1986 iroc it would beat that firebird and the 1986 one too

  • Thanks for posting this. I had an '82 camaro in high school. Traded it in on an '83 camaro. Traded that one in for an '84. All were Z/28s. This video brought back some good memories. Those 3rd gen camaros were fun cars. Great handling, good straight line performance, (for the time 1980's). I still daydream about going for a cruise in a camaro like I had. T-tops off, windows down, and van halen cranked up.

  • its funny why would you compare cars that are technically made by the same company

  • As soon as I saw a race between an '82 Z28 (stock 4bbl was 145hp) versus an '82 Trans Am (Cross-Fire Infected rolled out a leaf shaking 165hp) I broke out the calendar to time them to 60. They might have 60 in under 10 seconds if everything went right.

  • I live in spokane and grew up there and people treat their 3rd gens like crap now, it's a shame

  • most people are misunderstood, most of the replicas you see are the fake versions. The real ones are way more expensive than most think. GM tried to buy most of them back and they did but a limited few that were wrecked. So for anyone seeing one for sale, it may be a good car with the decals and such but it is not the REAL one. Basically, if it was at a dealership being sold, then its not one of the real ones. Real ones were special ordered and delivered which was documented

  • haha, pretty good. Thanks for uploading.

  • Thanks for the video! When I was a child I used to be a fan of these cars (and I'm still are). These rides are timeless!

  • What camera was this filmed on

  • @nipperoid

It was a brand new betamax movie camera. It costs a mere $2,500 and had the giant VCR on a shoulder strap and a cord to the hand-held camera. It's the best I had back in the 80's.

  • @yodeheyvavhey do you still have it?

  • dam they look good together!!!!!!!

  • That was a very cool video. I still have my signed photo of the HOFF when he was filming in my home town of La verne Ca. He was filming night rider at the airport. David crashed the stunt KITT into some lights, scared the hell out of the crew, They had to run because he slid to fast in the wet grass. They only brought one of the custom KITTS to the shooting, all others were stunts TA's.

  • ITS K.I.T.T.!!!

  • yawn......i woulda smoked em both with my 72 firebird 400 BB :)

  • my 86 trans am was a 350 5 speed carborated stock 4 barrel holly carb look it up

  • There is a '82 Camaro pace car replica in Machias, ME that I want. interesting thing is there are 2 third gen Camaros, a '87 IROC and '88 IROC less than a 1/4 mile from my house that I would also love to buy. idk about you guys but I think the '82-'92 Camaros were the last true Camaros. Cause my cousin has a '95 and it feels nothing like the '82-'92 nore as classy. What does everyone else think?

  • Last true Camaros were 67-73 in most peoples eyes but if your eyeing up a third gen (82-92) try and get one that will actually hold some value. The third gen cars have a really low market appeal thus creating an undesirable car. If you go with a Camaro make sure its an Iroc and try and pick up an 89 or 90. 89 was the first year you could get t-tops with the 5.7 (dont let anyone tell you dif) and they had 4 wheel disc available as well.

  • Uh, I have an 87 that I purchased new, which is a 5.7 with t-tops. Who did you get your information from?

  • @RFEMike ...holy shit....i have an 87 that I purchased new and it also has t tops....we better hold on to these things......might be rare!!!!!

  • Hey jamcousi9, I forgot to mention that my car also has 4-wheel disc brakes. I can provide my original window sticker to back up my claim. 1987 was the first year for what you claim 1989 was the first year for.

  • An 82 pace car replica isnt worth anything as the 82 Camaro is a slug and 28 yeqars of hot rodding im sure left its toll. If you look hard enough you can still find some clean 5.0 5 speed cars and if your really craving an Iroc look around for a 1-LE Iroc. No matter what people say, there was never a 5 speed 350 car in either Firebird or camaro. If someone swears they have one they put it in. You can verify this by checking the block behind the drivers side head. It will be stamped 5.0 or 5.7

  • yep im with you they didnt really have the power but they still had the muscle car look the 4th gen's kinda look ricy at times and its just more of a kids car then a mans car.

  • whats the difference between a firebird and a trans am?

  • engine!

  • Ill take both when your done with them

  • lol great job!

  • I see the Firebird, but where's Hasselhoff?

  • i agree wit chu except 4 the performance lackin part !!cars now aday r much more lacking in performance than back in the day though i do prefer the 79 trans wit the 6.6 n the iroc wit the 5.7

  • learn to spell...

  • "wit chu"??? Really?!?! Is is that hard to spell "with you" or do you really think it's just that cool?

  • man fuck u!!! forget bout my spellin... if u like 2 correct spellin errors go n b a kinder garden teacher

  • i think i here the christine theme song lisen clousely

  • Comment removed

  • wow...thats all the way back in the time the fair grounds circle track was still in existance. i race out at stateline and i would have loved to seen that track before they covered it up with dirt :/

  • F-Bodies 3rd gen my favorite years for styling just can't beat that 1980's design to bad performace was lacking

  • i agree wit chu except 4 the performance lackin part !!cars now aday r much more lacking in performance than back in the day though i do prefer the 79 trans wit the 6.6 n the iroc wit the 5.7

  • @abearmuthamutha

the 5.0 tpi are almost just as powerful trust me i own a 87 iroc 305tpi/auto the 350's arnt much quicker and everyone has the 350's stock or not. its nice to just see a lil diffrent performance engine here and there.

  • well actually i hear u man!!but the thing is if u got a 305 they talk shit bout chu like 350 is the bomb and 305 aint worth jack shit lol but i feel u man!!

  • @abearmuthamutha

ya while i admit it would be nice to have the 350 but its really not a big deal there wasnt a major diffrene in power and it's defintly a sleeper motor if you get some power in them. i'll be switching to a 383 later not right now not soon at all but sometime but for now im good. and i do wish i had more power from the car stock like a 1le but this camaro meens alot to me so its never going be sold

  • Also, don't forget that you couldn't get the 350 with a standard transmission. I'd much rather drive a 305 with a manual then a 350 with an auto.

  • @KissRocksForever, ya true but if my camaro wasnt a auto i wouldnt be having a camaro because me mom actually bought the car and she cant drive a manual ethier can i. by the way its gonna be my highschool car so i havent even began modding as im only 13 and were pretty dam broke lol

  • There was only a tenth of a second dif in the 5.0 TPI 5 speed and L-98 (5.7) auto time in the 1/4 mile. You will feel a difference on bottom end grunt and top speed say like 80-120 mph but midrange they were pretty close.

  • 0-60 in less than 7 seconds?! Really?! Not bad! Assuming that's true...

Any idea where these two beauties are now?

  • No idea, I sold the Z-28 back in 87 in Jackson Hole Wyoming. I think my brother sold the Trans Am around the same time in Spokane Washington.

  • @yodeheyvavhey I would laugh if that camaro was still in Jackson hole wyoming i might take an adventure up there and see if it is

  • @yodeheyvavhey my dad has an 82 camaro indeanapolis pace car

  • Haha, funny, one of my best friends has a '91 Camaro, and i'm getting an '86 Trans Am real soon.

  • 185HP from a 305 4 barrol? not in 1982, try 140hp, lol. the Ceasfire 305 in the T/A was only 165hp

  • I agree with statement, It was not until 84 HO came out until the HP was up to that #.

I test drove new 83 Z28 305 Ceasefire & all it did was open the flaps & make some noise.

  • HELL yea trans am sn are da best. camaros are ok

  • i got a 82 camaro the 305 in it is shot so this summer i am putting in a 350 in the beast

  • Get your facts straight. The 1982 Mustang GT was rated at 157HP and The 82 Camaro was 145 hp for the 4bl carb and 165 for the crossfire. I owned a 79 pace car mustang & still own a stock 82. Quite frankly they ran about the same with out much difference in top end. they both pulled around 240 ft lbs of torque, quick off the line but little top end, yet fun cars.

  • The info on the Camaro is all wrong. The only camaro that came with 190 hp was the Camaro HO in 1984. The Camaro Pace car was a pig...I think it was rated at about 150 or maybe even less. In 1982 The Mustang GT totally owned the Pony car world. It was nearly a second faster than the Camaro and Trans Am at that time. Good video and great cars, especially the Trans AM...but the data is all wrong.

  • Wouldn't mine owning both of them

    F-body! 4ever!

  • I have a 1978 Trans Am.

  • 1982 Trans Ams are amazing cars!! 1982 Camaros suck terribly!!

  • WOW, your stupid, they are the same fucking car idiot, just a diff body! WOW!!!

  • @v10viper04 actually most camaros came with Drum bakes while trans am's came with disc posi. but there are performance differences but they are to subtle to matter

  • @thunderup86 Yea..... most base model Camaro's came with Drum and so did base model Firebirds. Trans am's came with discs like the Z28 and IROC-Z's. So yes your right but your comparing a base model to a performance model... Camaro/Firebird- Drum Z28,IROC-Z/Trans AM,Formula- Disc

  • @v10viper04 yeah i have a 84 trans am I was suprised when I was looking threw codes that it had a disc posi but ran 3.23 rear gears. I have replaced them since with 3.73 rear disc posi, but I have seen some FIREBIRDS with drum

  • Are you kidding. That's the base for Knight Rider.

  • dont be jelouse tht u dont have a muscle car

  • Actually I do..and its faster than both of these pieces

  • well wht is it?

  • Trans Am is not a piece! Piece of fine metal if anything......although the 1977 Trans Am is probably one of the fastest if not THE fastest T/A. Its probably the coolest looking T/A too. Whats your muscle car? just curious.

  • When did the 77 T/A come into the conversation?..were talking about this video..I personally like the 79's..and would own one in a heart beat if I had room..I've got a 86 Mustang GT fyi

  • i was talking about how the 82 trans am wasnt a pile of junk and then i was personally saying i like the 1977 T/A the best out of all of them though. I cant wait until i buy my 1977 trans am. I saw a nice 1986 Mustange for sale it was 950 dollars but it had a little engine trouble.

  • Dude really..the 82 Camaro was a total pos...a real dog of a car..maybe you weren't around in the 80's to remember..they sucked..I do like to TA styling though

  • the 82 camaro i dont like that much im talking about the 82 TRANS AM. The T/As styling was great but i like T/As way better than Camaros especially the 77 trans ams like i said before.

  • I was around then, and loved the styling of the Camaro and Firebird(more towards the Camaro, as I've owned 3 of them...the current being an '85 Z28..)...but yes, the PERFORMANCE was sorely lacking with the 3rd-gens. Saddling them with the weak-suck 305's was an embarassment. I've long felt the 3rd-gen F-bodies should've had at least the LT1's that the 4th-gens started out with....

  • Fastest Trans Am was actually the '89 Turbo Trans Am. Had the same motor as the Buick GNX.

  • no it was definately the 1977 model trust me especially the Trans Am SE, not the regular 77 Firebird Trans Am. But if it isnt the fastest which yeah it practically is, its the most B/A looking T/A ever. But what do i care.....as long as its a Trans Am you know im gonna love it.

  • Yea, used to have a "79 with a 403. It was a ground shaker, it would turn heads within a mile away. But i rode in my friend's '89 Turbo Trans Am, it did 0-60 in 4.6 seconds on stock. Easily does low 13s on the 1/4 mile. He just put larger injectors, bigger turbo, and a shift kit on the tranny, and it was doing mid 12s. But anyway, i love all Trans Ams. Even the discontinued LS1 models. Hopefully they'll bring back the Trans Ams in the near future, if not, long live the Trans Ams.

  • if not......well, whatever. Long lie the T/A as you said. It was a beast of a car i hope they bring it back i made a drawing of a concept trans am ill post a vid of it.

  • 1973 SD455 did the 1/4 in about 13.5seconds. The 77 was a lot slower with only a 200hp rating. the 73 SD had a super under rated 290-310 depending the time of the year you looked at the factory ratings. I love TRANS AMs!!!!!! My favorites are 71-73s. I own 86 T/A fun stuff. BUt slow as hell with that nasty 305.

  • well i forgot about that. Although i know someone with a stock 77 Trans Am that did the 1/4 mile in 7.8 seconds i dont know how or why but yeah it was all stock cuz it was run on a dyno too and it was all stock but whatever if it isnt the fastest T/A i think the 77 SE is the sweetest looking around. My favs are 77 - 80 Bandit edition T/As.....I love that movie, "Smokey and the Bandit". That's one of the main reasons i want a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am 400 6.6 L Special Edition.

  • Sounds like a sweet car. But 7.8 sec? You need at least 1000hp maybe 950hp if you lucky. And tires need t be aroun10.5 inches and bigger, meanign mini tubs. Your right though they are some of the best looking birds. Dont worry you will get your T/A someday.

  • oops sorry my bad probably wasnt 1/4 mile then lol. sorry about that my bad.

  • probably 1/8 mile...

  • i could have sworn the one in tha movie was 78?

  • nope

  • Sorry to say that PONTIAC no longer exists, I own 2 of them myself.

  • i think the 1992 Firehawk 6 speed the Fastest

  • i dunno bout you but the camaro was absolutely stunning...

  • state of the art radio!!!!! HAAAAAA I guess it was then.....

  • My mom had that exact same Camaro new. It was a major POS. It never ran half the time. It would stop on her at a stop light. Every time she took it to the dealer they gave her the run around. They left it parked over night in dark corner of a parking lot with no lights. Next morning the t-tops were busted. After 3 years of headaches she traded it in on a Toyota and never looked back.

  • My 82 Pace car was the best car I ever had. Never a problem. Drove like a dream. Loved it very much. Super dependable and never let me down. Maybe your mom's was a lemon.

  • @yodeheyvavhey or maybe it died at the lights because it as a stick and she forgot about the clutch... i mean moms usually are women

  • @jammer96 That is why american automobiles were never respected from 73 on. They lost sense of customer dedication and the workers lost the pride of craftsmanship. I own a 82 GMC truck and i will always own it. It passes smog better than the new ones and is a great truck to own. The cars of that era however were just plain JUNK!!

  • @jammer96 without a doubt a lemon. My 85 has never gave me a problem other than a dead battery

  • the real pace car had the shitty crossfire set up

  • I have a 1982 Camaro Z28 with the Crossfire Injection in it. My dad bought the car used in 1983 with only about 14,000 miles on it and he had never had a problems out of it. Before I got it off of him in March, 2007 my dad had the engine rebuilt because it started really messing up from he had let the car sit for a few years. Ever since I got it back from the engine shop I haven't had any trouble out of it at all. I love the Crossfire Injection system.

  • Very cool! The standard Trans Am displayed on this video is practically K.I.T.T. from Knightrider!

  • Yeah it does look like it.

  • Its the bowling ball wheel covers,Man those things are expensive!

  • As it sits on this video it was the car that michael drove before he was shot and they turned it into k.i.t.t. It is in the opening minutes of Knight of the Phoenix

  • Eh, I Hafta Disagree, the t/as and fiebirds are fucking nice, but id rather have my 92 rs that im goin to swap the motor with an ls1 here come winter, but im a camaro gy myself

  • there were 190,000 1982 camaros made and only 40,000 1993 camaros made

  • In terms of styling I couldn`t agree more.

  • trans am better

  • God, even today they look awesome! That was the beginning of the best generation in terms of style. Then in 1992 they became a total disappointment and headed towards their deserved demise. Total crap. Unfortunately, that can be said of the vast majority of American cars nowadays.

  • How can you think thee were the golden years? As far as quality, the bodys were vey mushy and flexible. Heavy and under powered. In 1993, they started going more performance oriented, with the Lt1 then the Ls1, the later model F-Bodies were much stronger, the best ever in my opinion.

But if you're talking style, the late seventies black w/gold trim were the best ever in my opinion. But lets face it, they were junk quality-wise. But I still love 'em.

  • 1992 was a good year for Camaro, what are you talking about? Last year for third gens! 1991 and 1992 were almost the same... 1993+ to 1997 sucked for Camaro's, but in 1998 they at least made Camaro's a little bit more attractive. I have a '92 Camaro (check my vid), and I love it, it gets compliments everywhere it goes. Not sure how they are a total disapointment, they are sharp!

  • I apologize if I made a wrong impression. I was only referring to it in terms of styling, I find the 1982-1991 Camaros (and to a lesser extent the Pontiac) one the most beautiful sports cars of all time. I guess I`m stuck in the 80`s - LOL. To this day, when one of these drives by my neck and head follow in the same direction and I see other people react the same way too.

  • I love the 3rd gen Trans Ams & Camaros better than the 4th gens!, the body styles were just too sexy with the T-top option, & with a V8 engine, nothin' says sex appeal greater than a musclecar with T-tops & a V8 engine, but I would rather have the Camaro's LG4 or L69 5.0L H.0. engine with that Rochester Quadrajet 4BBL carburetor, that carburetor has a high performance past that just can't be beat, especially with it's instant throttle response, & that cold air induction gives it 10 more hp.

  • I just can't believe that they put a 5.0 from the TA's in a Silverado, Im glad I have a 5.7 in my truck.

  • I gotta agree with you Deathwish, the trans am was at its best before the adoption of the corperate motor. A good 455 HO or SD was a killer moter, but I personally prefer the Olds 455 for mine

  • i can't hear anything!

  • The 4 barrel was way better than that god-awful cross-dresser injection! What seemed so high tech back then looks so archaic now.

  • Cross-fire was the worst engine ever thought of... and there are NO aftermarket performance parts for them!

  • yeah I dunno what they're talking about "widely accepted by most people"

  • I just bought a pace car..anybody have any interior parts for sale?

  • Dude camaros and trans am are da same. dey both F-body cars

  • really? are you serious?

  • yes he is serious the crossfire injection was a joke. the 305 4 barrel isnt much better either but is slitly better.

  • A joke because of it's low performance? Why do you think that the 145hp 305 4 barrel is slightly better than the 165hp 305 cross-fire?

  • since the 3rd gen yes they are the same, they both have the same engine and tranny and probably everything else, even the interior is the same.

  • there is no 2011 trans am boy, and yes they are the best, but personally i don't want them to bring'em back, unless they'll build it as a proper pontiac, not like the 3rd and 4th gens with chevy engines and transmissions, not good enough for me.

  • thank u!!! i can do nothing but agree with you!!! they screwed pontiac over!!!

  • hahaha i love it hahaha i have an 82 camaro

  • When I was a kid, I loved the new style black with gold accented TAs. I remember drawing pictures of them all the time. Even though by today's standards they aren't that fast, I'd still love to have a '82-'84 restored one

  • You'd be surprised...

they can still take a pretty good number of cars.

    ;]

  • Now.. thats a race, Two classics, two legends, one soul.

  • go f-bodies!!!!!

  • Both cars are HOOOOOOOOOT .. I wish I have a brand new one

  • there basicly the same cars

  • 82 Trans Am, all the way!!!

  • I like them both and dont care which is better!!
