Apparently the series ended because of a lack of funding. If they didn't hire so many extra characters as regulars aka Hector and Casey, they might have had more money. Just saying.
I still hoped they had more money and time to do one more episode and go out with a bang bringing back Rob to solve the mystery of who Ghostwriter was for the very last episode to wrap things up to such a cool series. But oh well I still settled for this episode. The memories.
I can't believe I was afraid of this thing. Then again having his face suddenly appear in a washing machine was pretty terrifying. Looking back now he's nothing more than a cheap Power Rangers monsters, and I laugh.
I only remember watching an episode or two of the show, and I have two of the books. I like the books better than the show. Heh. Goes to show that reading the episodes is better than watching them on TV. :P
The mysterious part of the story/episode seemed pretty slow to me. I'll surely use this episode, though, when I get writer's block on my books.
God this scared the crap out of me as a kid, especially when Gus first opens his eyes... eeyuugh. Watching this now... I feel like I should be embarrassed about that... but judging from all the other comments, seems I wasn't alone!
i was traumatized by this when i was a kid. I was so scared to go to bed that i vomited from crying so hard. watching this now i dont know wtf was wrong with me....
I remembered only this episode from when I was 3. It scared the living shit out of me! I don't know what was worse, the slime monster or the wicked witch of the west. •_•
I knew it!!!! I was thinking oil to dissolve him when they broke out the ice. I thought hardening was bad. Didn't they write when it hardens it never comes off. But even after all these years I remembered oil to soften gum. This show stuck. pardon the pun. LOL
@Saturossun Dude. We are in the same boat. I had the same exact dream about this for so long. I have been trying to remember so for so long where I saw this until know!
ATTN: I have an idea for Ghostwriter fans. As many may know, The Electric Company has returned, but I think it is closer to Ghostwriter than the 70's version. In 2 years, it'll be the 20th anniversary of GW. What if there was an episode of TEC where the Ghostwriter Team guest-starred, and the Company saw GW for the first time? You can see TEC episodes on PBS Kids Go's website. If you think it's a good idea, reply to this comment. If enough people like it, I will make an online petition.
part at the end is hilarious. im glad im not afraid of the dark anymore. or i'd be flipping out. i think im still kinda afraid to go to sleep. FEAR FLASHBACK!
Although I'm sad that the show ended prematurely, I think it was for the best. Adding both Hector and Casey as regulars made the team way too big and slowed down the progress of the show. I understand that they needed to appeal to younger audiences, but they should have focused on more mature story lines. Having Rob leave was when it lost focus. Also, adding Melissa Gonzales was a mistake. Not that she's a bad actress, but she was way too different from Mayteana Morales and was distracting.
@vietgrlterifa1 Clearly the original concept of the show was to change characters the way Power Rangers did or Barney changes kids. New younger kids replace the older kids creating an endless loop that would be age appropriate. Unfortunately, Hector and Casey were both failures, not to mention changing characters like Jamal's dad, Lenni's dad, and Gaby was annoying. If the new additions had been popular enough Ghostwriter might still be on the air today.
jamal come on grape-boy come on out i'm gonna chew you up and spit you out gus i'm not afraid of you in fact im laguhing at you you heard me ha ha ha come out slimy
@cutiepiedev Yeah, I remember that one. I didn't like it though. There were only 3 kids, two girls and a guy. And it was soooo not like the PBS version, which was 100x better.
The set decorators were so lucky: because the series was canceled, they didn't have to worry about cleaning up the mess after this episode was made! I thought the tag ending with the GW pen necklaces was great...at least they acknowledged the series' finale to some extent! I wish they had a Ghostwriter reunion or get their autographs of how do they look like today? All of them are mostly married, have a family, some of them are still single, and dating.
The actresses who played Tina and Lenni are both married, I know that. I'm not sure about the others.
One time, I did some searching online and I managed to find Tram-Anh Tran's (Tina) myspace page. I bookmarked it, but I've since then had a hard drive crash. She didn't look that much different than she did in the show.
If you Google Blaze Berdahl (Lenni), you'll get some recent images of her.
This is bull, how the heck could they end it like this. After all this time they should have been able to get funding. Well everyone it was fun going back to the past with you all. Let me know if anyone comes across another great classic.
Man it sucks that Ghostwriter had to end right here. They only had 13 episode for Season 3. It's good to go back and relive this classic show that I grew up to love.
looking at this now i recognize what a fantastic lesson this teaches about writing technique...unfortunately when I was a kid it scared me so bad I missed that part, lol
LOL I agree with you bartlettmichael62. I finally have closure as well. I had countless nightmares about this episode. I'm pretty sure everyone who watched was haunted by Gooey Gus for years. I can't believe they aired this on PBS. This episode should be PG-13.
oh man this was my FAV! me and my bro spent a whole Sunday when I was a little squirt (I duno how old guess about 7 or 8ish?..) voting it to the top to be sure to see and record it! =) lol its the only show I ever did that for
He's not THAT old in this episode. In the 3-peat special, they mentioned he turned 16 when he was in England shooting the "A Crime of Two Cities" case.
you know what would be awesome is if someone could fund the production of a whole new season you know how 90210 is a spinoff of the orignal someone could do that for this show if a bunch of people are intrested then it could be a hit=)

Yeah, this show pretty much gave me nightmares for about a quarter of my life. I was always worried the slime monster would be lurking around a corner.
They sure had me fooled the 1st time I watched this, I thought the monster came back alive in real life then I see ghostwriter saying Gotcha! on the computer and I was like huh, so when they all said it I understood and started to laugh
The show probably got cancelled because of all the mental scarring the slime monster caused. I would have had a much happier childhood if I'd never seen this.
yeah i locked my self in my bathroom one night because i was so scared after i watched this when i was like 6 then my parents had to like burst the door down cuz i was like no ur the slime monster haha i cant believe i was scared of this thing
It's too bad they never showed whether or not Casey won the writing contest.
This was the final eposide, as the show got cancelled due to a lack of funding, which I don't understand because at the end they show the companies that provide money for the show.
On the IMDB board, someone said that it got cancelled because the computer program used to add in Ghostwriter was too expensive.
After this episode came out, I kept waiting and waiting for a new one, but it never came. That's kind of sad, too, because that new girl who played Gaby only got to star in two episodes.
I've watched bits and pieces of this episode on Youtube before. But it's been a long time since I've seen this ending. It really brought back memories.
After this episode came out, I kept waiting for another new one, but it never came. The show got cancelled after that, sadly.
Thank you sooo very much for uploading this. It truly brought back childhood memories. Me and my little sister would watch this everyday. The times I cherish. It was a real great show in it's time. Again, thank you! Ghostwriter!!! :)
Anyone who's hating on Cassey needs to stop. First off, a character doesn't ruin a show... bad ratings does. Secondly, her acting was as mediocre as everyone else. What the hell do you expect... they were KID actors. Everyone need to get off Cassey NUTS and just be happy someone posted these vids for us to enjoy. Damn....
well yeeeeaaah but if someone handed you vegetable oil would your first assumption be that they wanted to make a salad? cuz i would think they'd be ready to fry up some chicken wings
LOL you're funny but if some monster was attempting to get me and someone handed me oil to destroy it... I would do as I'm told. I'm not thinking about NO chicken or food if something is coming after me LMAO!
I was disappointed in so many ways with this episode...obviously because the show ended, then there was that horrible replacement for Gaby, and there was too much Casey...thumbs down big time!!!
They read and write slow 'cause it's a reading comprehension show...but also it takes forever for a group of people to write anything. Which is why teachers who assign group project essays are the spawn of evil.
Thanks for posting! I loved this episode as a kid.
Apparently the series ended because of a lack of funding. If they didn't hire so many extra characters as regulars aka Hector and Casey, they might have had more money. Just saying.

It's too bad they never showed whether or not Casey won the writing contest.
This was the final eposide, as the show got cancelled due to a lack of funding, which I don't understand because at the end they show the companies that provide money for the show.
davinp 3 years ago
On the IMDB board, someone said that it got cancelled because the computer program used to add in Ghostwriter was too expensive.
After this episode came out, I kept waiting and waiting for a new one, but it never came. That's kind of sad, too, because that new girl who played Gaby only got to star in two episodes.

I've watched bits and pieces of this episode on Youtube before. But it's been a long time since I've seen this ending. It really brought back memories.
After this episode came out, I kept waiting for another new one, but it never came. The show got cancelled after that, sadly.

Casey looks funny when she gets stuck to the door covered in sticky purple slimy gum.

Just CTW now, huh? So BBC pulled out toward the end.
I always did think those two companies were an unlikely team. Was Ghostwriter shown in the UK simultaneously?
Marbles471 3 years ago
man i cant believe that was it
cravefan04 3 years ago
how did jamal get in? didnt they lock the door?
xWrOcKxOnxNF 3 years ago
And note how carefully he came in (without knowing Lenni was there) in a situation where he'd normally slam the door open. lol.

Damn....

shirasong 3 years ago 3
its used for the dressing... duh.
kkgemini86 3 years ago
well yeeeeaaah but if someone handed you vegetable oil would your first assumption be that they wanted to make a salad? cuz i would think they'd be ready to fry up some chicken wings
shirasong 3 years ago 6
LOL you're funny but if some monster was attempting to get me and someone handed me oil to destroy it... I would do as I'm told. I'm not thinking about NO chicken or food if something is coming after me LMAO!

I was disappointed in so many ways with this episode...obviously because the show ended, then there was that horrible replacement for Gaby, and there was too much Casey...thumbs down big time!!!

that was a finale episode... that was dumb... i guess casey was the downfall in gw...

They should make a ghostwriter videogame, that could be pretty kick ass if done right

i like how it takes them a century to type and read things
baxternogrl 3 years ago 2
They read and write slow 'cause it's a reading comprehension show...but also it takes forever for a group of people to write anything. Which is why teachers who assign group project essays are the spawn of evil.
Thanks for posting! I loved this episode as a kid.

I hated Casey that crazy bumbaclot. I think she was the downfall of the whole show.

They should've atleast tried to fund one more episode, so they could've had a real ending to the show. I'm stuck in the 90's MAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN.
