@apkunz: Use a wood conditioner on maple before you stain it. It will temper the grain and not allow it to take so much stain in areas which creates the contrast issue.
I am doing exactly the same, though I am not trying to approximate anything other than an accent color.
Even though I am pre-staining, I am not as happy with the result. There is a tendency for the maple grain to take on a little too much contrast, some of the time.
I disagree - the headline is accurate, unlike most newspaper headlines. Since he is not selling of offering anything but advice, there is no "advertising" here.
can you guys please make a video on how to stain veneer. not edging veneer, like little sheets of thin veneer. i dont know if you stain it or dye it. i want it dyed so i can carve it down and have it not sand off
