The best Steven Seagal movie! The story and the script for this movie is by Steven Seagal, which is interesting because he is a good fighter and here we see one good concieved plot not less good.
if i am not mistaking part of the japaness culture and fight tactics is also a philosophy that teaches you to respect your adversary not swear and most of all use your knowledge for defense never offence if he had truly studied that then he should realizy its use and philosophy not use them to make violent brutal action movies in order to rise in the hollywood society..
@thegorn68 Had a guy put a gun on me a few yrs ago and thought of this exact move. Decided against it when I saw his hands shaking and the hammer back.
Sabretooth from X-Men Origins walks into places ahead of Steven Seagal and he always asks the owner. "You got insurance on this place?" "No, why?" "Too bad"
Many of Seagal's movies are among my favorites. The way he fights is reality, no fancy bullshit. The reason he's not so fit anymore is because he's focusing on things other than martial arts (like environmental activity etc). After years and years of training he should be allowed to relax for a change.
This was when steve was at his best! YOUNG SKINNY AND FAST AS LOGHTING!! Although he chubby now im still a fan! The man has over 40 years of maetial arts experence
Its funny because this scene as beautiful as it is and as tastefully done as it is did not get me interested in Aikido. This movie kick started his career, but for me I saw this documentry entitled Bushido and in it was Gozo Shioda. He sealed the deal for me.
(1:34-1:45) "It doesn't matter whether your opponent kicks or not, because the *strength/strong point* of Aiki(do) is that it all becomes one. Also, because (I'm) outside his line of attack...it become one/the same...Watch..a front kick."
(1:47 guy kicks) "Again..." (1:51) "Like that..see?" (1:53-1:57) "So the movement becomes one/the same, like this..." (SLAM!)
(1:58-2:02) "You have to change the angle(=get off the line of attack)...He attacks..." (2:02-2:04) "Even if at a higher angle it's the same." (2:05-2:07) Pivot around rearward...just like this." (2:08-2:12 slams the guy...) "...With that kind of feeling, please try it..."
I train in Aikido at the Hombu Dojo in Shinjuku = the same place that Steve trained at. The above translation is fairly literal, but the overall gist of what he is saying is that whether the attack is a kick or a punch, the body movement/technique is basically the same: get off the line of attack, blend with your opponent's attack, and make their face/skull/ass one with the ground! >;-)
Aikido prides itself on being a defensive art. But he's throwing some strikes while doing the techniques. Do they teach strikes (tsuki and geri) or just strikes you do before you apply the move?
I can't speak for all schools but after the basic are mastered, I am talking rolls and throws as well as locks, then comes the strikes both hand and foot. Nothing fancy, just the basics and the way to apply them. And when I say mastered I really mean an understanding on the basic level of when and where to apply a technique. Mas Oyama was quoted saying something like it take 10 years to learn how to punch effectively, & 1000 times is just doing it 10000 times becomes practice. You do the math.
No sorry I meant in Mas Oyamas style of martial art. But it applies universally, the more correct practice of something the more it become second nature or you react without thinking about it. However in some Aiki styles punches and kicks are taught the same way as well as judo. this make someone able to defend themselves.
@victorrain ...Depends on the teacher/school. At Hombu the strikes are thrown mainly with the feeling/idea of being a way to distract or off-balance the opponent before doing the main technique.
You seen this Girl?Naw man,you know,I quit messing with that stuff,I aint into the shit anymore, you aint into ??what are you into? hey Why dont the fuck you assholes leave me alone?I paid your boy off monday night,my boy huh?yeah now take some of that money and go buy your mama a Fucking, condominium, and get out of my life with this shit.
When approached like this? I have no qualms with Aikido. It helps in my chosen profession for come-alongs, etc.
And I LOVE how Seagal used the combat Aiki-Jitsu in the bar scene. Esp w hen he nailed the meathead with the elbow!
Classic. Notice you didnt see him screw around with flips and shit in putting someone bigger and stronger than him down? He straight up nails him with an elbow and knee to TAKE HIM OUT!
the fight in the bar awesome that's what need's to be done to all the bitches in the world today male bitches or people that think they can hide behind money!!
Too bad for that poor Muslim immigrant who owned the store. Just about every action movie has some business that is ruined because of some scene in that business. LOL! In the movie Hancock, I was amazed that that was addressed if these action movies actually were real. The Autobots defeated the Decepticons in Mission City in the first movie, but they really did a lot of damage to Mission City if you think about it. LOL!
Seagal enjoys playing "ethnic" heroes. He has variously been in roles as a"sicilian", "korean", "eskimo", "latino" and other races. His eskimo portrayal was especially a tear-jerker. And he kicks butt in a bar scene in every film.
it seems to me that when ever Andrew Davis makes a movie in chicago,he uses the actors to portray the cops,CODE OF SILENCE,ABOVE THE LAW ,THE FUGITIVE,check it out for yourself.
