The person he's singing to has called him out for his shortcomings(I've been thinking long and hard about the things you said to me like a bitter stranger.) and while he was upset by it, the person was also right(...and now I see the long, the short, the middle and what's in between I COULD SPIT ON A STRANGER.). @GhostLate Good point. Perhaps I overstated. I guess a better point to make is simply that, as a huge Pavement fan early on, I was downright disturbed the first time I heard New Face In Hell and Hip Priest, which I do believe Pavement mimicked a little too closely to the delight of clueless fans such as myself. Also, The Fall became my proverbial 'Favorite Band of All-Time' some 20-odd LPs later. If every 100Th band took as many creative risks as either group, we'd all be better off! :)
