I've seen this done plenty of times before. I'm sorry but as cool as this is I can't believe the judges would choose this over a vegetable oil car and a jet engine go kart. The sciency stuff as drmaqueen1289 put it is not that hard to understand. Like I said though it is still cool. You could use this as pyrotechnics at a rock concert.
yes, well if you think about it everyone has heard of a go cart, or new ways to fuel a car...but this is somewhat unique...something everyone can enjoy: fire, music, science, etc. so that is prob one reason why they did so well :-)

We won first place in our category, beating a Mercedes Benz that had been converted into a bio-fuel engine that ran on vegetable oil (It goes 40mpg!), and a turbine-jet engine go-kart! We plan on entering again next year, but with a different project. If anyone has any ideas of what we should consider building, let us know!

As a way to visualize sound waves, this is top notch. But I know I'D like to see Run DMC's "My Adidas" or House of Pain's "Jump Around" run through it.
