I live in the UK where every citizens health care needs are provided for. If I or any loved ones get ill and needs to see a doctor or go to hospital, we don't worry about how we are going to pay for it, its already covered in our taxes (which are not that high!). As a US citizen living in Canada, (and a healthcare worker) I have NEVER seen a person denied care because of a lack of insurance, be-it a Canadian or anyone else. Unlike what i've seen in the USA

Have you ever stopped to look at the arguments against universal health care? They are primarily based upon expenses and wait times, instead of the number of people who have not received proper medical attention, and suffered due to that. Or how many people who don't have health care and needed it, who couldn't be insured.. etc etc the people who don't get helped
You must include governmental control and influence as well. US studies have shown that of those that aren't covered, 12-14 M are not citizens (and wouldn't be covered under the public option anyway). Over 9 M make over $75K a year and can afford insurance if they want it. And 10 M are already covered by existing programs, but haven't filled out the paperwork (Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits...).
The system isn't perfect, but we don't need to remake it (Obama-style). Just fix problem areas.
My personal opinion is that all systems need to be remade, none of them are nearly efficient enough for my likings. Especially currencies, I don't like the idea of currencies.. but all that can be done without something short of an apocalypse are relatively small changes such as the one here. I believe in universal healthcare but there should be exclusions; for example, if you've ever been convicted of a felony then you don't get any coverage. Plus, the government needs to invest more money in medical scholarships and better facilities so we have adequate manpower and resources.

President Obama, patients are charged thousands of dollars if given blood transfusions in hospitals. If the attending physicians would use alternative methods to donor blood, this would save patients thousands off their hospital bills. This is documented proof. Surgeons have performed thousands of complex surgical procedures successfully. I for one was down to 3.8 hemoglobin level. I was hospitalized. I refused donor blood due to risk of contracting AIDS, hepatitis, and etc... I was treated....
.... with ertropoetin shots, Iron transfusions, B12 shots and drips to restore my electrolytes. The attending physicians wanted me to go home faster. But I knew that recieving donor blood would compromise my faith. Some people don't take blood, because of Bible-based directives at Act 15:29; Levitus 3:7; Genesis 9:4. Nevertheless, having surgical procedures without the use of donor blood, will save millions of dollars in healthcare costs and as documented proof, a patient will be less likely...
....to contract an infection, or disease from donated blood. I don't doubt that many people have recieved blood transfusions and have had no major complications. However, because of the critical times that we're living in, we have been recieving reports of an increase of donated blood being infected or diseased, even when units have been "screened" and deemed safe. The bottom line is this, less cost for the patient. More training & funds to use alternative methods to blood transfusions?

Health care in the US is inaccessible to 45 million people who can't afford insurance. The US has been in debt for many many years, the budget isn't getting balanced, nor is it a priority. Our health care system, on the other hand, is extremely corrupt. Poor coverage at high prices means lots of money in the hands of private insurance companies. Our healthcare is very advanced technologically, with a good and fair payment system, the US could have the best healthcare in the world...this is a high priority, and i for one am anxiously awaiting reform.
Where do you think the money to pay for the debt and universal healthcare comes from? It comes from countries like China. They are buying our debt thereby raising the value of their currency and devaluing ours. What Obama is doing is the greatest transfer of wealth the world has ever seen. only it is not going to go from the rich US citizens to the poor US citizens. It will go from our rich country to other poor countries.

Once this goes through and the healthcare deficit rises, Congress will enact policies like the fat tax for overweight people, the soda tax for people who drink sugary cola's, higher cigarette and liquor taxes, carb emissions tax if you drive an old car that gets less than 35mpg, fast food tax for places like mcdonalds and KFC, etc etc. They will not need your approval to do so. All they need is to get their foot in the door. So, you will blindly pay for it anyway.
Respectfully, I don't think that debt management and involvement with China is relevant to healthcare. You inferred that we would get money to pay for healthcare from China. As citizens we would be the ones paying for healthcare, as we do now, only in a fairer system. As for the actual reform process, what do you presume would be expensive? I don't see healthcare reform as a largely pricey feat, rather in the long term, it would greatly save money for citizens.
It is now estimated universal healthcare will cost 1.6 Trillion over the next ten years to cover about 15 million uninsured people. This still leaves several million people without insurance. What is not accounted for is the public option. This is where many unions and US companies dump their employee coverage and expect them to join the public healthcare ranks. This will inflate the costs to upwards of 5 trillion, a burden that will undoubtedly lower the value of a dollar.
Also, you cannot separate helathcare from the rest of the economy, Everything we spend money on is linked together. So if you want this, you need to prepare yourselves to pay $5 for milk and over $5 per gallon for gas. Watch as inflation rises, unemployment rises and taxes rise for all.

I would suggest that language like that wont elevate the discussion. Government dollars are a drop in the bucket compared to the research done by drug and technology companies. I live in the UK where every citizens health care needs are provided for. If I or any loved ones get ill and needs to see a doctor or go to hospital, we don't worry about how we are going to pay for it, its already covered in our taxes (which are not that high!). Surely the very least we should expect from our elected government is protection and care for the most vulnerable of our society?Good luck Americans, I hope you all realise healthcare is not a business, it's a basic human right.

Insurance companies have had record years--which is 4-5% profit. Most Wall Street companies have an 8% profit margin. Obama is trying to demonize anyone that opposes HIS plan.
91% have health insurance. 85% of those are satisfied with their country.
So, reform should fix issues, not remake the system (which is 1/6 of the economy). Keep the government out of healthcare.
Note: Obama voted against healthcare reform when he was in the Senate. Hypocrite.

As a US citizen living in Canada, (and a healthcare worker) I have NEVER seen a person denied care because of a lack of insurance, be-it a Canadian or anyone else. Unlike what i've seen in the USA
The only people lobbying against President Obama's healthcare plan are the private insurance b/c they would loose the money.
The idea for ALL Americans to have access to public healthcare is noble.
The Canadian system isn't perfect, it is for EVERYONE.

Government services are not known for saving money, being efficient or for customer service (DMV, Post Office, Medicare, VA hosptials....). Why would you want government in healthcare--higher taxes is not a good reason.

They are primarily based upon expenses and wait times, instead of the number of people who have not received proper medical attention, and suffered due to that. You must include governmental control and influence as well. US studies have shown that of those that aren't covered, 12-14 M are not citizens (and wouldn't be covered under the public option anyway). Over 9 M make over $75K a year and can afford insurance if they want it. And 10 M are already covered by existing programs, but haven't filled out the paperwork (Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits...).
The system isn't perfect, but we don't need to remake it (Obama-style). Just fix problem areas.

President Obama, patients are charged thousands of dollars if given blood transfusions in hospitals. If the attending physicians would use alternative methods to donor blood, this would save patients thousands off their hospital bills. This is documented proof. Surgeons have performed thousands of complex surgical procedures successfully. I for one was down to 3.8 hemoglobin level. I was hospitalized. I refused donor blood due to risk of contracting AIDS, hepatitis, and etc... I was treated....

The US has been in debt for many many years, the budget isn't getting balanced, nor is it a priority. Our health care system, on the other hand, is extremely corrupt. Poor coverage at high prices means lots of money in the hands of private insurance companies. Once this goes through and the healthcare deficit rises, Congress will enact policies like the fat tax for overweight people, the soda tax for people who drink sugary cola's, higher cigarette and liquor taxes, carb emissions tax if you drive an old car that gets less than 35mpg, fast food tax for places like mcdonalds and KFC, etc etc. They will not need your approval to do so. All they need is to get their foot in the door. So, you will blindly pay for it anyway.

Respectfully, I don't think that debt management and involvement with China is relevant to healthcare. You inferred that we would get money to pay for healthcare from China. As citizens we would be the ones paying for healthcare, as we do now, only in a fairer system. As for the actual reform process, what do you presume would be expensive? I don't see healthcare reform as a largely pricey feat, rather in the long term, it would greatly save money for citizens.

It is now estimated universal healthcare will cost 1.6 Trillion over the next ten years to cover about 15 million uninsured people. This still leaves several million people without insurance. What is not accounted for is the public option. This is where many unions and US companies dump their employee coverage and expect them to join the public healthcare ranks. This will inflate the costs to upwards of 5 trillion, a burden that will undoubtedly lower the value of a dollar.

I am disabled. Believe me I see so much waste.Repeating the same test, going to appointments and the doctor doesn't show, getting discharged from the hospital with 8 broken bones and blood on the brain in one week and asked to walk to the cars with broken legs! I got gangegreen in the hospital and they cut me open with NO Pain medication, did broken wrist surgery and forget to numb your arm. I could fill this entire page with 20 years of mistakes. IT IS TIME FOR CHANGE TO HEALTH CARE!! OBAMA

I would suggest that language like that wont elevate the discussion. Government dollars are a drop in the bucket compared to the research done by drug and technology companies. All government has done is stolen our money to give to the people with the most political pull. The market on the other hand will seek out the greatest demand and provide cost effective solutions.

Firstly, you do not have a monopoly on "freedom", contrary to what your protest warrior bum-buddies might have you believe. They are as disillusioned as you.
Secondly, your emphasis on individual "faith" is unreasonable. it points towards there being an "average" man, and in turn, that the average man is empowered to have "faith". Both of these premises are wrong.
The third problem with your comment is that it is a flaw in logic. I didn't say that a leader or government can fix all problems.

In addition, your classical philosophy went out of fashion in the 1700's. To show how resistent the USA is to change, such classical emphasis on "individual responsibility" (you know.. because people clearly choose to be homeless.. because it's so enjoyable etc.) causes the USA to have ridiculous law & order policies, welfare policies etc. It unfairly places the onus on the individual, which is rarely the reality.

Thirdly, you are unable to see that through the process of hegemony, Americans (by virtue of the way the fantasy of national belonging works) have drawn their "nation" along lines where an unrealistic principle of "freedom" is seen to be inextricably linked to the imagined nation.
So, to be american is to be unquestionably "free" and to be not American is to be "not free",
consequently, anything which is seen to be an attack on a reworded definition of "freedom" is seen as an attack on the USA.

One thing is for certain, someone who pronounces that they have "freedom" is not someone who unquestionably has it. It is only when such "undeniable freedom" is seemingly threatened by day-to-day living and experiences that someone walks around pronouncing they have "freedom", as if to re-assure themselves that they do in fact have freedom.
