I think that if someone buys a vehicle that was built for off road then they should have to sign a contract when they buy it stating that they will take it off road at least once a month. They would need to provide proof that they went off roading with a video or picture of it in its natural habitat. (Mud, deep water, on top of a big rock) Examples of 4X4s that would qualify: Any Land Rover, Hummer, Jeep, Ford Explorer, Land Cruiser, Etc..

Once that fat hunk of metal sank in the sand there was no getting out; he had to call beach tow while I ferried his Girlfriend back to beach front so she could at-least see the water that day. My unmodified Wrangler TJ is wonderful & fun on the beach; just wish it was a Diesel. My BMW is a better daily driver & offers all the luxery one needs, minus the fat!

@orangehummerH2 Seems like a dumb vehicle to buy for luxury. Try a Mercedes, BMW, Lexus, Perhaps even a fat American Cadillac or Lincoln. The H2 is a rather poor off road vehicle considering the manner in which it was positioned and touted.  Good off road vehicles include: The Humvee or H1, Jeep Wrangler, Land rover Defender series and many in the land cruiser series. A range rover would be a better choice for Luxery/ "off road".

In reference to the H3, they are not so roomy as an H2, but offroad, very capable too. The old ones are trash, but the new H3 Alpha with V8 has some nice torque and having the option of a locker in the front axle is fine for the 2009 model. Now that GM is in a such trouble, I hope the Hummer brand survives. I heard rumours that AMG might want to build an H1 again by 2010, that would be great!!!

The H2 is not bad, but H1 and the new H3 with lockers in front and rear are better offroading. And in reference to what I drive as 4x4 right by the moment, it's a Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with QuadraDrive II. In my past I drove so many different 4x4, it's unpossible to tell wich's the best, cause they all have some pros and cons. Next one will be a Range Rover TDV8 with Airsuspension.

The H1 is just great, got some vids from a driver instruction course I had at the Hummer Factory in South Bend, well the track itself is at Mishawaka near by. The military one, the HMVEE is very bumpy cause it has the coil springs rated to take a huge amount of weight (rockets, ammo whatever)so driving them with no load is a pain in the ass.

But the civilian one, the H1 is much better. You can drive over boulders and big rocks without pain. Best was the last one, the Hummer H1 Alpha with the Duramax engine and the Allison gear. And a half later, this GM fools decided to stop production :-(((

In reference to the H2, they have a comfortable nice ride and all what I miss on them is a locker for the front axle. A friend of mine has one and is very pleased with it.
