  • Speed King Piano Version is good....although the Hammond Version was Crazier

  • Deep Purple can't live w/out Blackmoore....

  • Child in time (studio track) is the best hard rock solo all times!!!!

  • There are couple of amazing solos missed here ''Ramshackle man'', ''The Battle Rages On'' ,''Anya'', ''When a Blind Man Cries'' etc...

  • Great guitar solos, but why are the pictures all wrong? When stormbringer is playing there is a picture of MkII and when Black Knight there is a picture of Fireball. Well, Ritchie rules.

  • His soloing in the Burn track Lay Down, Stay Down is sensational imo but heck they're all fabulous even though the man himself may disagree. Cheers for posting.

  • Blackmore is the God

  • I agree. Totaly. Great posts. thanks Eduardo-Joinville-SC-BR

  • this are amazing solo

  • Meh, these are tame compared to his live solo's.

  • They're all good, I like them all, but you need to make a list of 16 to include "Strange Kind of Woman".

  • where is solo mistreated?

  • Best solo of the universe.....child in time

  • blackmore forever

  • Well, we all have our preferenes but at least Child in Time made the list.

    But what about

    Place in Line

Maybe I'm a Leo (Roger Glover mix)

    Demon's Eye

    SOTW (Roger Glover mix)

    Just to name a few

And course the greatest of them all

concerto solo with London Philharmonic also found on Youtube

Let's not forget Difficult to Cure

  • Comment removed

  • So many to choose from.

  • I know these are his "Purple" solos, but I'd have to say some of his best were with Rainbow.

Listen to "Blackmore's Rainbow" album, and listen to "Snake Charmer" ... Ritchie at his finest, IMO.

  • The very best!!

  • hmm nobody likes "when a blind man cries"?...hats sad...the solo has so deep emotions imo...

  • i love the solo on stranded, thats my favourite solo also gates of babylon, weiss heim and could listen to child in time all day

  • Another very good solo is in "Lay Down, Stay Down" from the "Burn" album. "A 200" (also from "Burn" - some really good playing on that record) has a good one, too - he has a really wicked tone.

,"Knockin' At Your Back Door" has a cool one.

I am referring purely to studio solos. If you want to talk live, there's a lot of good stuff on "Made In Japan", of course.

Unlike many guitarists, he contunued to improve in the 70's, I think his best solos were with Rainbow, for the most part.

  • NEW!!!!!! Matt Darey Presents Urban Astronauts - See the Sun [Exclusive White Label Remix]...

    mystery guitarist - HOT!

    mystery guitarist - HOT!

    mystery guitarist - HOT!

  • RICHIE BLACKMORE 4 EVER

  • Thanks for the compilation. Of course I would have put them in a different order, but I'm not smart enough to make a video like this. Nice work!

  • Why does nobody list Mistreated? It's got so much feeling it sends shivers down my spine everytime i hear it even now

  • 1) Highway Star

    2) Lazy

    3) Burn

  • Wring that neck ftw

  • I just love his solos

In my oppinion he's the best guitarist in the world.

I also like the solos of "The Battle Rages On", "Anya", "The Cut Runs Deep" and "Dead or Alive" very much. And I miss them in this list, there almost only the solos of the "old" songs.

  • hey, the 12 is PICTURES OF HOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @123nikiedani321

I already fixed in the description such a long time ago :S

  • Blackmore you are a God of the guitar i will have so wanted to see yourself in concert in 1993 for instance but too young : (. To listen to the solo d 'highway star my friends nobody can make better.

  • 1.Child in time (in rock version)

2.Highway star (made in japan version)

3.Smoke on the water (made in japan & machine head version)

    4.Burn

    5.Lazy (made in japan)

  • Not a bad list. Have you heard the guitar work of SOTW on the Roger Glover mix? It's with the 25 year edition of Machine Head. Extraordinary! And Maybe I'm a Leo from the same disc.

How about the one from the First Movement with the London Philharmonic 1968?

  • where is hard road (wring that neck)? i really expected that to be on here

  • machine head isn't a song

  • my favorite song is Lazy!!

Lazy's solos are the greatest of Ritchie's

  • Best Ever!!

  • the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • An excellent selction. However, I would have included his solo from 'You Fool Noone' from the live album 'Made in Europe'

  • Jesus a great choice but what has happened to Mistreated? Please listen to it , it's my all time favourite but for some reason it's rarely recognised truly a great solo.

  • right choice..child in time is best guitar solo ever..the melody is beautiful..the great guitarist must be genius and creative in making good melody..

  • excellent choices all!! For live recordings the list would have to be topped by. 1993 Anya in Stuttgart. You fool no one at Cal. jam, Greensleeves and Rainboe Munick 1977.

  • @duckhunt55 anya live 1993 is my fav blackmore solo of all time,,gives me the chills.

  • #12 is pictures of home!

  • Richie Blackmore!!!

  • #13 is pictures of home!

  • Child in time is the best one..

  • highway star!!!

  • burn & child in time baby!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks for that,.great list. You could make a ''Rainbow period" list..... would be geat to.

I was just thinking, did Hendrix ever hear that child in time solo?????.......?

  • Where is When A Blind Man Cries solo? Child In Time is the best in my opinion to.

  • the best ritcie blackmore's solo is from"child in time",its my opinion!!!huges from Greece!

  • the solo of ritchie blackmore in "child in time" is my best!!!!

  • Ritchie's best solo: Gates of Babylon. Will never be topped....ever....by anyone.

  • Fucking awesome!!!! Thanks for this post!

  • Peut etre le meilleur solo de l'histoire du rock....Avec celui de Page sur Stairway to heaven dans "the song remain the same" et celui dans rock Bottom de UFO par Michael Schenker.....

  • The 2 solos from the Made in Japan live track "Strange Kind of Woman" . I have the 3 disc live in Japan CD and all solos from that song over three nights were great!

  • Good choice of child in time at 1, that whole song is incredible. I would also move highway star up although its been said many times. Oh and for all blackmore fans, i suggest you listen to catch the rainbow from the album rainbow live in germany. The solo is incredible

  • excelentes los solos de blackmore, para que decir otra cosa.

  • ok, but even better in MiJ version ;)

  • April Child in Time Highway Star On and on He is The Best ever !

  • I do not fully agree with that arrangement, but almost each and every solo, created by Ritchie,is great.

  • OH look at that your right I didnt even notie it

doesnt make me an idiot just ignorant

when I go through those lists I only go far enough into the video to see eah name of the songs and I guess I just didnt ath that....drat

  • the only solo that wasnt here that should be was pictures of home

  • you are an idiot.

what is the 12 then? there is no song called "machine head", that solo is from pictures of home

  • @cuentadesegunda Right

  • *sigh* epic fail dude

    album: Machinehead

    song: Pictures Of Home

read the info on the right before calling people idiots... fool

  • did you read the previous comment? the one from mimistrymember99? i dont think the "epic fail" is mine...

  • you should do lists for rainbow, and night as well

  • best Gitarist of World

  • Child in time can be compared to stairway to heaven. I do agree but still don't know why it wasn't listed in top 100 greatest solos when highway star and lazy were.

  • Look it up at Guitar World, the only guys who are in the know. I think Higway Star was at number 15 of all time best solos.

Do not look Rolling Stone Magazines list: these guys have no clue.

  • @gillan5 yeah, rolling stone knows bollocks about anything. How the fuck can Randy Rhoads be the 85th best guitarist Also, how come John Lenon and even Bob Dylan are better singers than Freddie Mercury. They`re all a buch of idiots

  • @SLASHdaROCKER Yeah, you are right. Their list of best albums sucks big time also. I do not know how this magazine could become THE Rock Magazine. These guys are pure idiots. Rhoads and Blackmore MUST be in the top ten of best players of all time. Best rock players I mean. Since there is the late Danny Gatton and he was the unbelievable genius guitar player ever walked on this planet - but he did not play rock.

  • @gillan5 totally agree, any list they do is shit. It was probably better in the 70s when there was better music around. Today, you open their website or magazines and all u see is lady gaga, beyonce and all that shit. Even a simple list like the top 25 albums of the year was shit.

  • @gillan5 You are much to kind to the reviewers at Rolling Stone magazine.

  • @kwagmyrefrontman Unintentionally, I never read this magazine but I do know their shitty lists which are a complete mess. Judging is at least not easy. I yesterday listened to Live at Leeds from the Who. Goddamm, Pete Townsend blows them all away with much much less notes then all these goddamm shredders. Hendrix was critisized at his time. Now we all know that he is the greatest player. Same happended with Mozart. So, Time will tell who was and is and will be among the greatest.

  • blackmore e' il piu' grande di tutti i tempi il gran maestro!!!!

  • Great video! Thanks for putting this together for all us Blackmore/Deep Purple fans.

  • Not in your list :

    Anthem, River deep, mountain high...

  • los wns mas capos de toa la historia y el guitarrista maestro de todos los tiempos y nadie le hace el peso a RITCHIE!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fender + Marshall + Blackmore =Magic!

  • Amen, dude!

  • Blackmore is a greatest guitar player, and composer too... Guitar God! .

  • los mejores solos del mejor del mundo

  • listen to april

    Richie sweepin in the 70's!

    hell yeah!!!

    \m/

  • exelent solos thankks =D i enjoyed it

  • i had alredy considerd Blackmore to be a great guitarist, but i think im about to be obsesd wit him

  • mistreated in one of the top 3 solos ritchie blackmore did EVER.....not just with deep purple...besides that it is a good list

  • I think all Deep Purples songs is very good and order is not obligatory

  • 333dimi.i agree with you.highway star is awesome, but the solo in stargazer.does it for me.he is the best.than you for posting this linkbullet.

  • i think the best solo from blackmore ( and maybe from all guitarists ) is highway star

  • hes so underated

  • Blackmore did not repeat any of his solos exactly live.. i think that is why he did not have the recognition as a great guitar player today

  • Well Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton (not sure for all times for Eric) never played the exact thing as in studio... They all improvised.

  • Ye But Vlackmore Is The GOD of improvisation !! i am sure u know it xD

  • Any guitarist woth his salt should be able to improvise over the pentatonic blues scale. Was playing this stuff when I was 14. That's not to say that it's bad but it's not difficult to learn. Where Blackmore scores is in his composition. Not overly impressed with what he does as far as soloing is concerned.

  • you dont know just nothing link ,

  • What?! Please read the beginning of the description, this video is quite old, and it was made when I was a beginner of Deep Purple and Ritchie Blackmore. Also learn english...

  • this is a blackmore tribute no ?

how come i see so few thumbs up?

are you AGAIN as you always and everywhere try, to put blackmore down link ? ok i understand, sorry man but you will not succeed, simply because blackmore is ... no words for it...

live with it ... blackmore will live for ever thanks for giving us the force

  • Oh, it's you again... Explain... How did I ever put Ritchie down?

He is great! I know that! But what have I done?

Oh, I argued on a VS video... Because you can't actually compare guitarists musically...

  • @ritchie63

Yeah, see it says 'OLD ' in massive letters in the description, man. Grow some eyes and whatever tumor in your brain it is that can perform grammar.

  • @Comuna What about hendrix, he didnt play his solos exactly live, but he was still said to be a great guitarist. Jimmy page, hendrix, toni iommi, and sometimes Clapton all improvized live. They are all still great. Blackmore is just unfairly underrated He is one of the best, if not the best guitarist.

  • @itchie88 I know...but Ritchie was too far. Not saying he was not good, Ask Yngwie Malmsteen who's really His DADDY!! I remember the Stone Cold live version without a solo..LoL , Maybe it was his temper! and I just say maybe.

  • @Comuna ya, ritchie can be a bit of an ass sometimes, but he's still great at guitar

  • and the lazy's solo is so good too

  • the best solo is you fool no one's solo!

  • This is not the original version of speed king is piano version

  • This is an awesome video and got 5 stars from me, but this still didnt come close to all the bad ass solos Blackmore ever done.

I collect old rare DP and Rainbow bootleg concerts. His talent is unmatched by far.

But still, excellent job on on this video and thanks for sharing.

  • he is god

  • deep purple is not the ancestor of metal.Particulary when we talk about guitar. The ancestor of metal is Black sabbath, and ozzy osbourne.the next time you will talk, I hope you will say something true.

  • The first true pioneers of rock were The Kinks, they were the first ever! The first ever to create a heavy riff, a true heavy riff, before anyone... That's by facts. Deep Purple are a part of the pioneers of metal too... Black Sabbath wasn't the first.

  • ok, here is how i believe the way metal is... deep purple was in on metal, as well for led zeppelin and black sabbath... black sabbath was the first band to actually take full account into metal...

  • how about the highway star solo being the first speed metal solos that solos like crazy train are modeled after u fucking dumbass

  • lazy is the best!!

  • really nice , but why you didn't include rainbow songs , like stargazer , gates of babilon etc...........

    he plays even better

  • i JUST recently got into deep purple (i know sad ) but man, why doesn't their guitarist get the recognition he deserves. i hear all these kids yap about metallica and metal this and that. This guy blows them out the park

  • And get into Jon Lord too! Awesome too!!!

And if you are very musical I can tell a few artists and their songs, you might get interested into...

  • Ok, Deep Purple owns but you just look stupid when you say that kids yap about Metallica and metal. There is nothing wrong with metal and Metallica. Besides, Deep Purple is early metal.

  • 1.strange kind of woman

    2.highway star

3.child in time obviously live from "made in japan" i think the best dp' songs.

  • You're a fag... Isn't all music real?

Your taste is just too small and short for you to appreciate other styles of music, so you just insult them, while I, who have a much bigger taste in music, just laughs on how stupid your insult is...

  • Blackmore fag? AHAH, in your dreams!! The only fag here is you. Feeling lonely and careless? I'm sorry, looks like nobody here can help you. Try somewhere else. Good luck.

  • Pictures OF home (not from) ;-)

  • the best guitar player

  • There isn't song with the name Machine Head. This is the title of the album. The solo in no12 is taken from the song Pictures of Home.

  • Check description... A long time I fixed that problem...

    A long time...

  • en q version del Chil in Time aparece el solo????

  • Richie And Pueple 4 EVER!! I saw deep perple with steve morse live in athens but no one like the god RICHIE

  • Really great vid! ty for the effort and of course your good taste in music. Blackmore...4 Life.

  • excelent video!!!

  • speedking,

What's with you and Ritchie, are you his personal fag or something you dumb cocksucker.

  • Your a fucking moron.

  • are you a normal person???

    fucking asshole

  • i touch ,the universe with highway star¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡DEEP PURPLE FOR EVER AND EVER¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Now tell me why is he a "miserable bitch fag", when he is clearly not?

  • you are a sick, moron, shit ,your mother is fucking in the beach with horses¡¡¡lol

  • like your mother

  • Ooooaahh...I love it, April is the best solo in this piece I think but they're all killers. My all time DP favorite must be Son Of Alerik, anyway; Purple ROCKS!!!

  • Thanks,

It made my day hearing all those solos together.

For those dicussing what musical genre Deep Purple are, I believe Deep Purple are too awesome to fit in a box.

  • Anybody who likes Ritchie Blackmore MUST get the new double DVD "Deep Purple - History, Hits & Highlights '68-'76".

I thought he was the greatest ever before watching this DVD. There's plenty of never before seen footage and Ritchie in particular shines as the most gifted guitarist of his generation, period. He was doing things back in '69-'70 (when he was barely 25yo) that nobody else could even dream about at the time. Even by today standards, his playing is absolutely outstanding. A must-have

  • I love that you picked up on that particular No No No solo from Fireball. Definitely one of my faves. I agree with all of your selections. In my opinion, both solos from Made in Japan's Strange Kind of Woman should be included, as well as the Child in Time solo from that same album instead of the studio version. In my personal list I also have the solo from Burn's "A" 200 as one of his best. My personal all-time favourite is Pictures of Home though.

Check my profile for some RB solo covers! :)

  • yes! finally someone else who agrees with me about the a200 solo... its just SOOO good! i cant even like understand it.

  • i had my first orgasm with highway star...

  • like me

made in japan : highway star!!!!

oh my first cd of hard rock!!!!!!!

  • Sorry man, but I think that Strange Kind Of Woman should be there!

  • And he had TWO great solos in that song!

  • Ritchie Blackmore-the king of improvisation.

  • HIGHWAY STAR FTW!!!

  • no man the bet solo is highway star no child in time

  • in made in japan

    i think so

but child in time is also good.

  • Nice job man but most definitely should have included the solo on Mistreated from Rainbow Live

  • not necessarily from rainbow live, i mean the studio deep purple version is in itself one giant solo (kinda). but yeah, all in all mistreated has to be here too.

  • linket,

i wandered a couple of months ago how the hell someone could put the mule in his top 15 solos of blackmore ? the mule is paiceys song, ( put moby dick for the next page solo - is the same ) now I understand you don t know blackmore at all. keep on listening to the man in black, he will grow on you and you will understand then why so many will support him and vote for him, this man might be a very unpleasant man , but can he play the guitar !!!!

  • I know I'm disappointed, right now... My list would have friggin' change... read my info... I mean I missed so much of his solos! Like Mistreated! (but this list is for studios, if it was live solos, well this list would be all live solos, lol)... I understand him, I grow up with him... Don't get me wrong, Mr. Know it all about Blackmore. You learn something everyday about each guitarist, and well you will still be learning with me. Even if you are more learned than me, no reason to put me down.

  • And O yeah! The Mule was a live version (from Made in Japan) which I'm also disappointed of, because I wanted only studio songs... And man, this video was a long time for me!

  • no problem man, keep up the good work !

i am listening again all this 15 solos right now , thanks for sharing ... like it

  • for u noobs out there who think page is better than blackmore, ok, its your personal opinion, but blackmores solos are better composed, diversed, far more superior technically played, than pages

  • No, they're just both different... One is more classical-based and the other is more blues-based...

  • thats true, but blackmore goes beyond 12 bar blues, and thats something page could never do!page is just another bluesman, very skillfull but nothing else

  • Talent is not from how skilled you are or what amazing tricks you do, it's about the music that comes out of it, that is what only matters, the music, we listen to the music... But Page did went over 12 Bar Blues... Seriously check other songs then Led Zeppelin's most used ones. Page did great stuff, Blackmore did great stuff, just leave it at that, both are amazing. Both are unique in their own ways, both have virtuous skills in their own way.

  • well, not for me,i cant even put page and blackmore in same leauge. page is just another copy of clapton, who was at hes best in Cream, very overatted player. yes, LZ had more simplefied and catchy and good writtien songs then DP,but musiclly we both know who has advantage.sorry for spelling

  • That's your opinion... But there is different levels of music, doesn't mean one is better than the other... Look if I ask you a question if Techno was better than Rock? You would probably answer NO... And if I asked you if people who make Techno are less talented than people who make Rock? You would say yes. But seriously no... There's people who are talented in one or another at the same level. I mean both DP and LZ are different but similar. Both are musically equal! But Jon Lord is an extra.

  • Led Zeppelin has some simple songs and has difficult songs... Deep Purple has some simple songs and has some difficult ones... Okay... We both know that Deep Purple wrote a lot of more songs than Led Zeppelin... But let's simplify it into DP Mk2... Then they're pretty equal.

  • Bill you have to post a Jimmy Page's Top 15 solos to shut these kids xD

  • I had, but WMG...

  • oh right :(

  • Blackmore is technically far superior to Page although I love them both. Ritchie's solos are much more interesting to me and far more singular. Where Page excels, is in overall music production. And for anyone who has ever seen both bands live (I have seen both many time dating back to 1970 when I was 10) Page has always been very sloppy.

  • Page at 1970 Royal Albert Hall wasn't sloppy... Just when he started hitting heroin, it made an impact.

  • Well, that's YOUR personal opinion too!! Cause Jimmy Page is more versatile and innovator. Can't talk about composition, almost every solos were improvised. Page was the best in 1971-75, before starting heroin. Blackmore was the best in 1976-78. Then came Eddie Van Halen xD

  • more verstile?in what way? hiting a violin bow on guitar isnt all versatile, and what did he invented?i could agree with racer500gp everything he said, and yes it is my opinion. u said ritchie was best from 76-78. thats just wrong, he did a great job in burn(74), stormbringer(75) machine head(72) and in rock(70). cause of ritchie was able to improvise far better than other guitarist, in my eyes hes the best

  • THERE IS NO BETTER OR BEST!

    There is only your favorite...

One can be more skilled, one can be more versatile, one can be more fast...

But it'll always depends on the music that comes out from the instrument, not how you are playing it...

PS Jimmy Page and Ritchie Blackmore were both great at improvisation, don't get me wrong, no one is better between each other, both do some sick improvisations...

  • hi linkbulletbill,

following you for while now, dont put this thing on the net when you are such a Page admirer, I know you like blackmore a lot too, but you can t hide page in your comments he is your favourit, nothing wrong with that, you will not convert the blackmore fans into page fans, it took me 25 years to admit that page can play some guitar, but when i see people say that page is better ??? common man, one note of blackmore in 2009 and you know it is him .. cant say that of page...
