  • Well... it's hard to put into words... so I will just say... the shit.. he's the shit.. best guitarist of all time.. one of the best musicians of all time.. yeah.. super.

  • This is just DIVINE!

    Thank you

    :)

    much love

  • could you imagine walking into a bookstore and its like " oh fuck, Shawn and Jonas!!" that would be classified in the "good day" folder.

  • He's soloing on an Indian song called Raghuvamsa Sudha. rock on shawn. I see you like like Indian. The scale is Cmaj9 also called Hamsadhvani in Indian.

  • His tone is amazing......

  • a guy just got a phone call at 3:25

  • 2:03-2:07... yes, that is worthy of clapping.

  • Those rhythmic groupings are so fucking pro.

  • Shawn Lane a beautiful person in every aspect of life. His music you could feel in your heart we don't have that with the types of music today. He truly was one of the best ever. He played as if it was nothing to him and most of his music was so technical.

  • videos like these make me sad in a way because of the setting, Shawn belonged in his own concert where everyone could have seen his genius. I mean come on!, look theres even a cop watching hehe

  • Freakin' beautiful music. TRUE God given talent. I've seen and heard the best...Vai, Satch, Timmons, etc. Shawn is God's jukebox.

  • Brings me tears. The body is mortal but the soul is immortal. And Lane's music is full of soul. How can this world can be so cruel? Why for God's name, Shawn Lane had to depart from these planes?

  • Magical!!!

  • Shawm will always be a legend.

  • what an incredible genious... thank you so so much for taking the time to find and upload these videos!

  • curse the 2 who gave this video a thumbs down!

this is amazing, seriously so inspirational

shawn lane rest in peace brother!

  • drummer at 4:59 - "you ready to fuck shit up?"

  • So captivating......so great that a Memphis musician is in a bookstore in India mezmerizing the attendees....I love it

  • definitely the best guitarist of all time. without a doubt. Anyone who thinks otherwise is simply incorrect.

People may prefer others, but hell, why would they? This is sex.

  • @jckbac9 So true, but whenever you make this declaration you will undoubtedly be told it's impossible to measure one musician's talent against another. Nonsense I say. If you honestly believe that a musician currently playing could capture Lane's technique, phrasing and you most be referring to an alien present amongst us today.

  • completely shows, shawn was very much into indian classical ragas, in his later years...

    amazing improv...

    bow to the god...

  • at 1:30 he def. pulls a line straight from Rice with Angels.

  • All killer no filler !

  • If I had to pick my favorite licks from the Shawn Lane archive it would be those flawless rolling legato builds 4:23-4:44 I just have to close my eyes to those every time.

  • bow fucking down to this...

  • fuck I have never heard of this guy before today, man did i miss out.

  • this is the only song would of made brave heart more epic

  • Yes!

  • Master musician... and hypnotist!!!

  • Honestly no one can touch this man. He truley can play in his stream of conciousness.

  • Great Stuff, I don't know where you find these vids! Great.

  • Bow down! This is magical stuff! So very "floating", not just in the sense of it being legato, but the whole feel. Amazing...

  • Shawn was magnificent.

Although i shouldnt say "was"... Because he still lives within his music. Hes still alive and well within his cd's, live videos, and the people who he influenced as well as people who were close to him in his life.

  • You know guitarists with amazing mathematical precision are a dime a dozen... but so few knew how to make it something magical. Not just flurries of redundant runs but sonic tapestries that really take you somewhere special. Only other player I think could do that other than Shawn was Holdsworth. Greatest improvisists I've ever heard.

  • and govan

  • before shawn passed away, which he knew he was going to die soon. he made sure that everyone no matter what country you live in you will hear great music . im glad he did that before he died instead of sitting in america.

  • That note at 1:32 is so perfect. Such a blissful performance. The guy in front's facial expressions and head shaking in disbelief says it all.

  • thank you for this, willjay. beautiful music, amazing quality... a true genius. inspiring to the max.

  • @KateLLight

    Thanks for the "thanks"! :-)

  • Is this on a fretless?

  • @0ptriX

Shawn did have a couple of Fretless guitars over the years, but this is definately a Fretted guitar. I only know of about 3 videos where Shawn used a Fretless Live (off the top of my head) ..... NAMM - 18th Jan 1997..... Rimini - May 1998.... and Cafe Berkhout, Amsterdam - 31st March 2001.

The Fretless always had a more 'Metallic' sound to the notes, due to the frettboard.

  • Ah right, cheers, just shows how well his slidey technique was..

Did you get my PM WJ? ^^

  • 1:51 OMG

  • Wow! Just sublime!!

  • Amazing playing as usual, and this is the best quality video I've seen of a Lane performance.

  • thanks for the vid..cheers from Kolkata, India

  • they were about to go into the song, as usual? why was it cut off? great improv anyway

  • @ydidntIthinkofthat

On the full video they go into the beginning of "Rice with the Angels", but the tape cuts out shortly after, so i thought best not to tease anyone with that part. It's a shame it wasn't recorded in full.

  • @MyShawnLaneVideos good call

  • Fretless guitar! seriously.

  • Awesome, beautiful stuff.

  • beautiful as always i love the guy in the green shirt closest to him shaking his head in disbelief

  • Just magical.

  • This just changed my life!

  • this is great!!! amazing sound and video

  • I keep watching this at least once a day. I have seen and heard many guitarists, but none are as musically free as Shawn was. It really seems like he could do anything he imagined on the instrument. The fastest lines, the most melodic phrases, it all came out of him with such ease. I can only hope that someday, through continued practice, I might be lucky enough to have a fraction of the freedom he had.

  • keep that dream alive and you could succeed i feel the same way towards jason becker.

  • simply amazing....

  • You can see why so many Indian musicians respected Shawn - amazing video and huge thanks for posting :)

  • Beautiful Indian melody reminds me of L. Shankar with his violin. Really nice!

  • Love it! Thanks a lot for sharing this!

  • I can't believe that guy up front just looks pissed to be there.

  • a soul as stunning and beautiful as his can never die.......this is Shawn in his element.....in a place he wanted to be...God blessed us with him for a short time here on earth...i wanna jam with him in the After........

  • 5 stars for comment.

  • Shawn Lane Found his way Back home, I think he was an Indian Soul trapped in the body of a white man who was born in Memphis...................LOL

  • LOL! I really enjoyed this comment.

  • i just tottaly flipped my lid

  • Every 10 seconds or so you hear a backing guitar volume swell. Did he have something recorded on a loop station or something which he would use as ambient backing? Its like a chordal drone.

  • Yeah that's what Shawn would do on these kind of live Improv's... he'd set a loop going at the start, then Improvise over it for a couple of minutes. Beautiful stuff.

  • and the rest of it plz !!!

  • On the full video version of this gig (which is only about 25 minutes long), they kick into "Rice with the Angels" right after this Improv, which i would have posted on here as well, but unfortunately it cut out not long after it started, before Shawn got to play (his solo).

  • Thanks Will

  • I love you for finding and uploading all of these videos of Shawn. The world shouldn't be denied one of the greatest musicians of all time.

  • Ah - Shawn Lane. Wish I would have had that pleasure to see him live. Very unique and interesting improvisation. Just Shawn Lane... Hehe...

  • incredible playing.

unique footage! do you have more from this gig?

shame on that person who answered his phone during this!

  • Sublime. Thanks WJ for posting....dunno how or where you keep getting em!

  • Wow this feels so special it is great to have an on stage camera it is more intimate than usual.

I really like it how the people of india know talent when they see it at 2.07.

    thanks again WJ.
