  • So many things to like about the idea of this. Has this ever moved forward at all and if not why? Would love to see this. Jerry Blavat is totally responsible for turning me on to The MagMen first with his playing Peace Of Mind on his radio show, then I Could Be So Happy and later Stormy Weather. Futhermore hearing them do justice to the Great Curtis Mayfield w/ I've Been Trying in the trailer ~ I'd love to see this!

    All the best and thanks!

  • @quieterrps I tried contacting the people behind the movie through the website back when it was still up (it's disappeared now), but never received any replies. I still see Bill Richter around and I'll ask him about it next time I see him. I'd love to see it completed too. The Men deserve it!

  • @franklinman1907 Thanks, I agree. Jerry Blavat will be doing an in-store signing for his book at the end of this month so I'll press "my main man, pots and pans!" for an answer about this. I wouldn't be surprised if this just showed up on public broadcasting all of the sudden one day though. Have a great weekend!

  • great story..great voices..

  • After high school graduation in 1968, I lost track of these guys. Fantastic story. Great sound!

  • What a great piece for a group that was sensational! I remember being in school in Boston in 1966 and hearing Stormy Weather. We came up with five or six black groups we thought it was and when the dj said Magnificent Men, we all said who? Later that day, I purchased their album. They should have gotten more recognition around the country.

  • Great sounding music.

  • I remember Tom Pane I saw them play in Hersey Pa around 1969 I was a Flight Attendant for American Flyers! The were Great!

  • Black or white doesn't matter the Mag Men Happened, music is music, I did attend the Uptown and also saw Stevie at the Uptown we were 5 whites in the audience and we had a soulful time. Ake

  • Remember, Rich Jordon, The Fly, Courts, Ake, at the Uptown in the mid Sixties we were not supposed to be there, but it was great, Ake

  • Was this film ever completed ? I would like to purchase a copy if available. Any information appreciated.

  • I was privileged to see the Magnificent Men at the Uptown Theater in Phila. Piece of Mind was a hit on the radio and I heard they were white. I said to myself, I got to go see these white boys play at the Uptown. They did not disappoint me. They had their music, steps and demeanor so together it wasn't funny. that was in the late 60's whenever Piece of Mind came out. No white groups ever played the Uptown, NONE. The Mag Men did. Hey now!!!

  • Thanks Guys Great Job Well Done For NOW.......Looking forward for the BIG ONE.....Dr. Doo Wopp....

  • I heard POM when it hit the charts. Sounded great then. Still sounds great.

I know it's just a matter of time.

  • Saw them at the Uptown with Alan Rdunitsky!

    Jeff Shear

  • I was just an infant when Peace Of Mind was released. Several years later in college I came across their brilliant live album which I played on my radio show weekly. I still have that record and to this day Peace Of Mind is one song that brings a tear to my eye because it has a message that ALL people can relate to.

  • Hey, whoever is producing this documentary should see how to get funding via PBS's POV series or NEA. The Mag Men? Who needs The Commitments!!

  • The "Young Raiders", a Mid-Continent Band booking out of Lawrence Kansas back in the day....did the "Sweet Soul Medley" off a "Magnificent Men" album...loaned to me by a black frontman and trombone player out of Stillwater Oklahoma...his stage name is Popcorn...he played in a great band from Stillwater called "The Harlem Riot"...which were all white guys except Popcorn.....I am glad the Magmen continue to recieve recognition. Great memories!!

  • I had the pleasure of working with guys over forty years ago , as a house band in dover NJ a few times, Ill never forget those great voices & musicianship , and don't forget the short hair matching jackets. Have not heard anything till this vidio, what happened.

    Still alive at 65 Jamie

  • csbsdj is right, they were "tight". I had the pleasure of knowing them personally. They would have been much better known with a different record label behind them. I was at the Apollo in Washington. When they began their set the lights were dim, then as they came up jaws dropped, lol.

  • Talk about setting the bar high, The Magnificent Men did it. When Teddy Pendergrass mentions them in his autobiography, you know they're great. They were one of the most talented and "tight" ensembles of artists to ever grace a stage. Thank goodness this project is coming about and that several of them perform with The Class of '60Somethin'..

  • These guys were really good...no, make that great! Go out and buy "Peace Of Mind", you blue-eyed Soul fans. You brown-eyed Soul fans, too. I safely give you an unqualified recommendation.

  • An excellent tribute to one of the greatest R&B groups in history. Ginger
