@CeruleanFilms The scene was from the film Sleep with Me (1994) and was not written by Kevin Smith. The film credits six writers with the script so I have no clue who wrote that Top Gun bit. Tarantino could have made it up for all I know.
Haha, Top Gun might seem pretty cheesy and silly now, but it was damn iconic in the 80's. If you were a kid, especially, that was about the coolest movie ever. Almost everything from the 80's is like that now.
There is some actual machismo in the movie's opening credits, when you see the real carrier deck sailors going about their business. More testosterone in those real guys than any of the spray n' sweat actors.
