And in case you were wondering: The drains going in opposite directions thing is a myth. The main thing that influences whether the motion is clockwise or anticlockwise is the setup of the system- where the pipes go, possibly where the water's coming from, the shape of the container.

If conditions were perfect then it would be possible to find that the directions are opposite in different hemispheres due to the Coriolis effect, but the effect is too small in real conditions
