i think technology has added a lot even to existing instruments- take for eg. guitar effects pedals and the sounds of bloc party (and others) which has made the most recent wave of indie rad. some arrangements of synthethic soundscapes require a great deal of musicianship- provided its not loops based, (eg aerodynamic by daft punk- awesome!) there is definitely a place for electro and the classic stuff. bands that can combine the 2 cohesively (shiny toy guns, cut copy) will be the next thing!
