I think I understand how this ending came to be. In the original time line Frog didn't save the queen. Frog only saved the queen when every stopped looking because they thought Marle was the queen. So now Frog has become the nation's hero.

Remember, even though you helped defeat Magus' army in the game, the Kingdom would have one anyway. Afterwards, due to Frog's new found hero status, the King offers Frog his daughter's hand in marriage.

I'm guessing that Nobou Uematsu co-composed Chrono Trigger, probably partly due to the fact that this was Yasunori Mitsuda's first game. According to Wikipedia, Noriko Matsueda was also involved (for one track-it doesn't say which).

This game brought up a very important question to me. It was stated earlier that Marle's mother looked like Leene, and that means that she has royal decent. Now it shows the King has frog genetics. Does that mean Marle's parents are related to one another?

@sadib100 Back then incest was rampant. Because it was a blasphemy for royalty to marry under them. So they would marry nobles. But the bloodlines started thinning out until a point where you would be marrying your cousin. Incest causes serious child issues that's why a lot of royal "babies" were born still born or died soon after their birth.

They way I see it is this: The king was killed in the war, Frog ultimately defeated Magus himself, and to the victor go the spoils. It makes sense to me... There always was romantic tension between Leene and Frog.

You have it all wrong about frog. Remember- the king in the past ended up killed by the fake chancellor, because frog singlehandedly rescued the queen, WITHOUT confronting the fake chancellor, thereby being the only one of noble blood to marry. That is because Glenn was a page to the Hero, but then became the only hero because he never ran away after saving Leene, and therefore never lost the medal.
