@BrandiECoyote "shovel ready jobs" is exactly the point, because a lot of people have those qualifications. white collar workers aren't the ones suffering. also, doing basic calculations on the approximate $300 billion that went to taxes, that's about $1000 per person. and that's assuming the distribution was uniform. some people probably got a lot more. example: buying energy-efficient windows by itself could get you $1000. i'm not sure about the specifics, but it's not chump change

Here's my wish upon a star: eliminate income taxes, business taxes, and property taxes. The federal government gets its revenue from excise taxes & tariffs. Most federal departments are eliminated or streamlined. The federal government no longer gives out grants. The state governments give grants according to sales tax revenue. The American people will stop asking Congress for money. Instead, they will work, save, and invest their money for the future, or donate to charities.
