yes, when I built the wall, I included a short piece of 2" plastic pipe in one corner. I put my wires through there, then I shove some foam rubber in each end to seal it up a bit.
Its like when you have people over, its a conversation starter. Lead the guest to believe there is a B, when really all there is is an A. It'll have them going for hours.
Putting a window in an existing wall would be more difficult. But I planned for this window when I built the wall. We framed it using 2X4 and finished with insulation and gyproc.
hi im making a studio in my basement at my home. i was wondering if u could help me and tell me wat u recomend i make the walls of. either wood panels or sheetrock and if i should do anything like add any insulation or anything so that the sound is good but almost not loud enough to be herd from outside the room or upstairs. i know its a hard question i just need all the help i can get . thanks plz anyone with info write to me thanks alot.
you could easily spend a lot making an almost soundproof room. It would involve a "floating" floor and double walls and doors. Sort of a room within a room if you will. I didn't do that ...
I simply made my little room as cheap as I could. I used several layers of sheetrock on the walls and added padding afterwards to dull the sound. Its not truly soundproof but provides enough quiet for my needs :)
nice place but i did notice some little things that would improve your overall setup,i'm no pro but i do know that 1ST your monitors should be placed a equal distance from you when sitting at computer(do an equilateral triangle with you and the monitor)your glass should be on an angle to remove perpetual bounce of the voice and i think the lava lamp can produce some electrical buzz noise cause it's realy close to your mic,but you realy have a nice place!!! keep on rockin'
i agree on the whole monitor setup. i hope you dont mix like that. if so they should be in an equilateral triangle in correlation with you and the tweeters should be as close to ear level in height as you can make them. as far as the rest of the crap szag wrote, well...just crap pretty much.
Thanks but shortly after this video I re-arranged the studio. I have the speakers on the desk now and you are both right - it was crazy having them spread so far like that.
Also a lava lamp makes no sound - it is only a light bulb which heats the lava.
i think he means an electrical buzz like from the wires of the lamp being next to the mic wires or something fancy like that, he must be working in a million dollar studio if hes worried about that microbuzz
hey, nice studio, im thinking of buying some of that foam padding you have on the walls, would it work to reduce reverb when recording drums. if so how much is nesercery to have a real impact?
Thank you and yes, it reduces reverb. Those blocks on my walls are old pieces of synthetic foam (from an old couch)covered with black fabric. On the door is the same type of foam but egg carton pattern. I am pretty sure the real accoustic tiles you can buy for professional studios will do the best job but this works good for me. The ammount you'll need depends on "how dry" you want the room. Try padding 2 walls then test the room. Pad more walls if needed.
I love your studio! But I wish you would go into some details of the equipment used, and some of the construction details and expences. Maybe another project when you have time. ;)
allright so you dont have a special music genre you prefer or something? And i got another question :P Where did you buy those things that isolate your vocal booth those soft things i dont know what its called. And how much do they cost?
well the real thing is expensive - And they're called accoustic pannels. But what I used was chunks of synthetic foam from an old couch (hehe) I tried to die them black, but they looked aweful so I wrapped them with a cheap thin black fabric and stapled them to the wall. They stop echo and they look ok :)
Thanks for the advice! I was planning to do that too with an old mattress! I am also building a home studio, i got 2 keyboards 2 LCD monitors 2 microphones a mixer and some speakers already but i am kinda youngh so its hard to get money ... :P
Anyway thanks for your help and your studio is reeeealy nice!
You my friend, have a killer setup! What did you use for sound absorption in your vocal booth? It looks like fabric covered fiberglass, if so, what are you thoughts? Thanks for any help you can give, I'd like to deaden my room a tad.
Thanks for commenting. Those blocks on my walls are old pieces of synthetic foam (from an old couch)covered with fabric. On the door is the same type of foam but has egg carton design. Made as a pad for a single bed, it was only big enough for the door. And costly - almost $20 for that small piece.
I have carpet on the floor, strofoam on the ceiling and fabric everywhere else. Cheap but effective - it works well in this small room.
hey: waht a confortable room lol. I´m trying to meke my home studio but all the time i must to change something, Well do it it´s the better.Congratulatios and good feeling from spain.
where are running ur xlr for ur mic too is it thru the wall?

Man, i like it
I like the sound proofed "vocal" room, "what the name & type of mic are you using"?

@adrianh63
Thanks very much :) I like it too. Thinks have changed a bit though - see my newer one called "home studio tour new".
That large diaphragme condenser mic you see in the booth is a cheapie but works great. Its an "APEX 430" and I paid about $150 brand new !

Question:
If this is studio "A" where is Studio "B" lol
I'll guess there is no studio "B" so, you wouldn't need to call it Studio "A" .... you could call it your home studio... lol

In my home studio, I use a Samson G-Track Mic and several Samson mics! That mixer must be pretty expensive!
Chicago10281 2 years ago
Actually mixers are very cheap. This little peavey was only $169 brand new !
See my "home studio tour new" where I now use a much bigger 18 channel Behringer board which is under $400 new !
I got it used off kijiji (in new condition) for $280

What kind of mics do you use for the studio? Samson? Neumann? Shure? AKG?
Chicago10281 2 years ago
I have a couple of Shure mics and a large diaphragm "Apex 430" condenser mic.
Aprox value $150 - 200 each.

neumann is the best but also
the most expensive
haidar1144 2 years ago
are condenser mics what you need for vocal recording?
lokylok204 2 years ago
Yah, they're pretty well the "cats meow" for recording - but then you do need some sort of Phantom power
