  • I enjoyed the video. I've been doing tabletop gaming for about 20 years, and am introducing my teenage son to the concept. I'm relatively new (okay, really new) to the Palladium system, but have been very impressed with the amount of world detail. I've heard the same things about min/maxing and other issues with the system (the MDC thing in particular), but I've always been one to make my own mind up. Glad I checked it out. Anxious to check out what you've got in store next.

  • @curbry We have many thing in store for the future, thanks for checking us out!

  • Nice work guys. Looking forward to more. Be glad to help if i can somehow.

  • It sounds like you intend to show people how to min-max their characters ... is that really the kind of thing you want to be encouraging new players to do?

  • @Maehedrose No we do not intend to show people how to min-max characters. Although it should be mentioned that my friend and co-host could very likely do just that! LoL

We are hoping to help people have a more enjoyable Role playing experience and give a glimpse of what Palladium has to offer, I feel that min-maxing often ruins the R.P.G. hobby. I should also mention that no amount of min-maxing should impede the ability of a good G.M. to run a campaign. Thanks for the feed back!

  • @bigwyllpower Where it can impede the GM is the mentality it brings to the gaming table; when a person - especially a new player - goes in with min-maxing on his mind it can turn the game into a series of target numbers and mathematical obstacles rather than a story to be engaged in. This isn't always the case, certainly, I have two very excellent roleplayers who tend to min-max their characters, but they are also experienced players - what made me concerned is it sounded as though it was your

  • @Maehedrose intent to sell this tactic to new players. I can recall when DnD 3.0 first came out a supplement was released to "help players" and one of the first things it introduced was how to try and cheat the system at character creation ... it sets a bad example from the start when this sort of thing is peddled to new players - it tells them that is what the game is about. And, let's face it, Palladium already has a lot of room for misusing the rules. It simply seems that if it is your

  • @Maehedrose intention to introduce new people to the hobby that it is then your responsibility to help them play the game in a way that will make it fun for everyone.

At any rate, my two cents.

  • @Maehedrose Your two cents are appreciated. I agree with your statement about the min max mentality. We do address the issue of R.P.G. as an experience in our "Basics Of Role-Playing" video. It is a possibility that we may do something more in depth in the future.

  • Nice start, look forward to seeing more.

  • That part at the end was really funny. So kewl. Glad the guys at Palladium books pointed me this way. I look forward to seeing all the other episodes.

  • @RokImortal Thanks for checking us out. I'm glad you liked the Easter egg. We were goofing around between takes and I had no idea Carmen was going to add that to the end of the vid. I'm just glad it didn't come across as lame. lol

  • @bigwyllpower I'm not arguing if it is or isn't. I haven't even read the book to form an opinion. I have noticed that the game does have a bad rep on rpg forums. Is it group think or honest opinion? My guess is that it's just group think because I doubt if everyone hating the game read or played it themselves. My opinion of the game is neutral until I have enough experience and facts.

  • @scullkrusher Well I hope you have an opportunity to try the game my friend. I agree that there is a degree of group think going on, Hopefully we can change a few peoples mind by doing our reviews. My apologies if I came across as being preachy.

  • @bigwyllpower I like some indie and narrative games other people don't and I honestly never could get into D&D. I don't care to go against what other people think. Opinions are like assholes... :p

  • Why does the Palladium system seem to have a bad rep? I've never read or played the system but you guys seem to enjoy it. I heard the rules are kinda wacky at high levels. D20 has that same issue too imo but lots of people like it. I'm interested in hearing more about the mechanics.

  • @scullkrusher My personal opinion is that the Palladium system is geared toward "Role playing". The game mechanics are in place to help you define and experience what it is like to be a particular character. people often get caught up on how extraordinary or powerful their character is based o the games rule set, when they should be attempting to define said character with their role-playing ability and imagination. Some players have yet to discover this aspect of gaming.

  • @bigwyllpower OK so it isn't just the rules but also the philosophy? That's interesting.

  • @scullkrusher Thanks for the feedback.
