So what happens if you don't press any key on the blue screen of death and just shut it off? It would still format the hard drive, right? (Seeing as though you'd have to turn on the computer again, anyway...) Or is there any way around the virus' effects after you see the blue screen?

@birdzgoboom Well, if you powered it off immediately and then booted the computer with a bootdisk or something similar, you could replace IO.SYS with a clean copy. But the only way you would know to do that would be to know exactly what you were staring at beforehand.

I don't think that it has to be July, rather the 14th. I like to test viruses a lot and one time I tested this virus (thinking that it didn't work) and then last month (or this month, I don't remember) I turned on the VM and it showed the BSOD. After doing some research on the virus (Google), I changed my machine's date and reset the VM. It never formatted the VHD though.
