I heard that Carl wrote this song while traveling in a car with Johnny Cash and Waylon J? They were on hi-way 64 in Parkin Ark. when one of them climbed over the seat to the back, one of them was wearing blue bucks. He said "don't step on my blue suede shoes " Carl wrote down the lyrics on a paper sack finished the song in 20 minutes. Maybe told by J. Cash. True???
Man, I wish I had a record player that could play 78 RPM records, so I could listen to all my old singles. Unfortuenatly, my current record player only goes to 45 RPM :(
love that old rockabilly stuff.been getting into it with the help of you tube.sonny burgess is also great.way more intense than the standard pop songs of that time..go cat....................
@david85251 He had a kneck injury from an auto accident then so he couldnt go out and promote the record so elvis ran with it [ carl wasnt bitter about it he said there was nothing stopping that boy elvis ]
@spacepatrolman Carl did not have a neck injury from the auto accident. He had a broken collarbone. His older brother Jay is the one whose neck was broken. Carl was only layed up for 5-weeks, then went back out on the road to promote his song. Elvis never ran with Blue Suede Shoes. Carl's version got to number-2 on the Billboard charts. Elvis's version which was released on an EP with 3-other songs only got to number- 20 on Billboard. Carl's verson sold close to 2-millions copys in 1956.
oh yes, it is. i've been to memphis two weeks ago and was able to get my hands on an original 7" of this song in nearly mint condition. it did cost a whole lot of money, though. but it was definitely worth it.
You can hear Perkin's influence in a lot of early Beatle's songs.

I think Elvis sang it better, but Carl played it better. (I love Scotty Moore, but...)
