@pidde15 It's actually 'Ferry Cross the Mersey' - the Mersey is a river in the North West of England which runs through Liverpool (where the band were from, I believe). So he's singing about the ferry boat crossing the river to Liverpool (the land he loves). I hope that makes sense :-).
