LMAO...I got my sense of humor from the Carol Burnett Show and Mama's Family. I grew up watching them, every episode. They don't make shows like this anymore.
ummmm I believe that is exactly what I have been saying! You don't have to be an actor to see or notice the difference. All i was pointing out is how I felt Carol was more natural....that's it! Simple.I think that you are the one failing to read and understand and that could be a problem for and "actor". No biggie...just get over it.
Lucille Ball and Carol Burnett were both comic geniuses and they were huge fans of each other. Lucy inspired Carol in many ways and Lucy loved Carol's work. i think they are both queens of comedy and there is no reason to try to analyze who surpassed who. good comedy is good comedy, period.
nope...just natural! Carol's humor is just natural where as Lucy acted....they are both great, but there is a difference and sorry you can't understand that.
@lucyvanpelt01 I never said they were the same. they are absolutley different hence why you cant really say one is better than the other. Its like comparing an apple and a pineapple...both are fruits but both are entirely different. I hope you can understand that!!
@lucyvanpelt01 I undertstood your point but you cant see anyone elses. Its like watching the oscars and saying one actor is better than another when they are doing 2 completely different styles. Im an actor and I can tell you that there are many different styles to comedy..you clearly dont see that. would you compare Chaplin to Keaton? Different styles ...Ball and Burnett...both brilliant in what they did..but DIFFERENT!
i used to love the 'mamas family' stuff carol burnett did.
i also used to watch 'mamas family' the sitcom when it spun off from the carol burnett show. the best part of carol burnett is when they would crack up.
The sketches on Carol Burnett were much better than the eventual sitcom this was based on, despite Lawrence's performance. Without Eunice, Momma was just not as funny. Their conflict drove the comedy.
@TheLastBrainLeft i found the sitcom to be funny, but I see what you mean it was more fun when Eunice was in episodes, but the sitcom did run for a good 8 years so I think it did pretty good
People are complaining how poor TV is today, and I will agree, yet no complaints how this show is basically being held hostage as far as home video. $10 per episode? Trying sell the product of only 18 episodes for $179.99? Come on. Is Carol so poorly off as that? Let's get the seasons out there for a reasonable price shall we?
xDDD "Annnd they're off" -Mama just stands there before saying: "I can't read this" I nearly peed my pants xD It's so amazing that Mama's Family came from the Carol Burnett Show!
I'm 45, so I enjoyed this every evening at 6:00 like clockwork and I was watching some of these and my 21 and 22 year old were laughin their butts off, I realized that they were kind of robbed of good, clean, fun. Their generation has alot of stuff thats funny, but, to be funny without being out and out, dirty or rude, or sexually explicit is uncommon nowadays. This stuff is timeless.
this show, the dean martin show and roasts, best decade for comedy by far...sid ceasar, red skelton, the honeymooners, kids today, no womder they are so screwed up....they dont know how to laugh...we were screwed up because we liked to laugh to much!
The best part about these shows is that no matter how they try not to laugh, they just sometimes can't help it. That makes me laugh even more. LMAO!!!!
@crackermoves But for some reason they NEVER show the 11th season, I remember episodes from the 11th season when I was little in the 80s but they never show that season, I WISH i could find it!
Thanks so much for posting these! I adore the Carol Burnett show! Yes, THIS is comedy. Watching these on youtube is great -it beats paying for the overpriced DVDs (even though I do own a few).
I'm so glad my parents showed me Carol Burnett when I was younger... it never fails to make me laugh until I cry. Thanks for uploading these skits. :)
You know,, I loved Lucy , watched every episode at least a dozen times, she still has a place in my heart,,, I've chuckled at Friends and Married with Childern,,,but Carol Burnett,,,Man she can still make me laugh till I cry,,,Damn shes GOOD....And just like wine it gets sweeter with time,,,and in these days of prefabricated soft and safe, sterilized sitcom stagnate humor,we should all sit down watch some Carol Burnett to remind us of what made Television Truly Funny in the first place.....
This is such classic stuff, yet still so fresh after all these years. It also vividly shows just shows how crummy today's supposed comedy shows are. You can't beat these actors and these skits.
I love Carol Burnett!!!!! She is one of my favorite actress. I grew up watching her show. I've always wanted to meet her. I had to beg my mother to let me stay up and watch the show because on Saturday nights my father made us go to be early to get rest for Sunday. My father was a preacher. Love you Carol!!!!!
When I was a kid, I wrote a few letters to Carol, and she answered each individually with specific answers to my letter. I still have them. The stationery was really cool, with embossed lips...lol.
They were all brilliantly inspired in the Mamas Family sketches. Just blows my mind. I grew up in Texas and my family and every family I knew had moments and scenes exactly like this....
gloomy gos, grandma used to say that all the time and also the early eighties afternoons after school mamas family then alice after that welcome back kotter and then there was maude , in the late eighties had the golden girls and miami vice on Fris
I've long-since cancelled my cable TV because there was nothing on 100+ channels that could ever match the quality and care that went into things like this.
