Carrots are great treats! The treats I used here are called "Veterinary Select." They are nutritionally controlled chicken and rice treats. They are low in fat, sodium & phosphorus. I typically use the dog's kibble &/or cooked beef & chicken when training. I like soft treats because they go down quickly. The Vet Select treats are nice because they are very visible (see our recall game video). I prefer natural treats and only use the Vet Select treats when I need a very visible treat.
LOL-that's cute! Just in case you were serious-all these tricks are games that my dogs play based on operant conditioning. They behave in certain ways to earn treats. No force or coercion is ever used. It is always the dog's choice to offer a behavior to earn a reward. In this case, Chase knows that in order to earn a treat, he has to ignore the dropped treats. He LOVES to play these games. He'd be bored out of his mind if all he did was lay around and sleep all day. Thanks for commenting!
