Magnificent! May be the performance I've been waiting for--but is it commercially available? I've the Robert Shaw version--OK but ponderous, or at least lacking a kind of punch that such a tragic (if hopeful) work demands. (On the other hand I like Shaw's War Requiem better than Britten's own because Shaw's final section sounds serene rather than hopeless.) I'd an older recording of Lilacs before Shaw's, one of my first CDs; an import I think & badly recorded, probably badly performed too.
