Boehner: Democrats Health Proposal Would Cut Seniors Medicare Benefits

Everything I have read - the text of the bill as well as analysis by the CBO and Kaiser - are available on the web. I am not an optomist by nature and what I have read leads me to unhappy conclusions. My representative speaks those concerns. Apparently this bill works for you so I am pleased for you. I can see from the negative ratings I have received that my feelings do not represent the majority. The needs of the many outweigh those of the few.

Citing concerns about the bill's effects on rural hospitals and clinics as well us unintended consequences for those with private health insurance, our representative - a long serving and prominent DEMOCRAT - voted NO on this bill. My information on the bill comes from reading portions of it as well as reading the CBO analysis and Kaiser Family Foundation analysis.

MissMoxie78, I never come to any conclusion about anything until I have facts and can read for myself the answers to my questions. There are a number of websites and YOU TUBE videos with the particulars of this bill including the actual wording in the sections. I think you would be surprised at some of the stuff in this bill. It is definately not benign.

The problem is we are not poor. We own our farm outright and our livestock although our income is relatively modest - too modest to afford health care premiums at our age. Under PelosiCare we will not be able to qualify for subsidies; they will require that we sell our farm to purchase health care policies. I would rather be dead. Our present policy would be eliminated as the employer pays out more in premiums than the fine would be.

MissMoxie78 - I'm not silly; I'm well informed and reasonable. There are provisions in the bill that criminalize a deliberate failure to get insurance or pay the fine for noncompliance. Do you not know about that? Are you unaware of what removing over 400 billions dollars from medicare will do? And just as a swell of boomers are reaching retirement age. I just have the most diffcult time understanding why older Americans do not seem to realize what is in store for them.

Oh, MissMoxie78 (is that the year you were born?) - If you will read the details of the plan, you will note that the public option is NOT going to be cheaper but rather more expensive. It is there to provide insurance for those who might otherwise be denied. Anyone over 55 who is not wealthy or insured through their employer can kiss their life goodbye under PelosiCare. Oh, and by the way, MissMoxie, I am not a Republican (or a Democrat).

If you were a senior you would understand that PelosiCare is, in fact, either a death sentence or prison sentence (if you won't buy the insurance) for anyone over 55. How on earth will the average American over 55 afford the premiums???!!! Over 65 year olds can kiss medicare goodbye.

How is it that Boehner knows the bill is so bad when he even admits he has not read it? How does he know he is against it? Someone needs to let him know that we the majority really don't think that much of all the scare tactics. He has an idea whats going to be in the bill because his only reference like the rest of America is the baucus bill which was not even a bill but a rough draft so Reid can draft the real bill to be voted on. Nobody liked the Baucus bill and I'm sure they know that as they were flooded with phone calls etc... Many things in that bill will not be in the final bill. Medicare is not going to be cut... None of their services will be cut. What is being cut is the fraud. Right now we pay for a lot of things that are not needed. For example.. The doctor may want to give someone a test.. but in order to do that they have to give them 3 other tests they don't need just to be able to give them the one they do.

The reason they want to get this done now is because another person dies every 12 mins while we wait. This has been going on for over 60 yrs. If another country were killing a us citizen every 12 mins we would want it delt with instantly. Medicare is not at risk, Jobs will be created as we will need more nurses and doctors etc.. and the final bill will be deficit free or it will not be signed. Boehner is just trying to scare the elderly because they are volnurable and that's a shame.

You bet the elderly are vulnerable. How can you say Medicare is not at risk when this plan removes over 400 billion in funds from Medicare. And just at a time when the boomers will be reaching the age of retirement. Now that is a shame.

Why don't you tell me which services will no longer be available to seniors and folks on medicare? You can't because for the patient nothing is changing except for some of the crap they have had to deal with. Now they will not have to have 2 or 3 other expensive tests just to be able to get the one test they need. The money is just being spent more wisely.

Give me a break! This isn't about eliminating a few tests. It's about a huge number of people coming to the age of medicare eligibility. Cutting funding by 400,000 billion will result in reduced benefits. Seniors will have to purchase individual health care policies which insurance companies will not be required to discount.

Excuse my error. Medicare/medicaid is being cut by 400 billion. Sorry for the extra zeros. Because the boomer generation is so large, this will result in reduced benefits that participants will have to make up by purchasing more health insurance. Many already do under the present program. I just can't see that this is going to improve health care for seniors and middle aged adults.

Last night I watched this special on PBS about health care around the world. I was kind of shocked at some of what I saw. Did you know Sweeden had a system very much like ours about 10 yrs ago they did something similar to this and you should see how well it has worked out for them. It was cool. They should the negatives and positives of each system. It was on frontline. You should check it out.

Sweden is not the United States. This bill will adversely affect rural areas. So many people being given availability to health care will necessarily siphon off doctors and health care professionals in rural areas to serve in the population centers. This will force the closing of hospitals and clinics in less populated regions. Older rural people especially will be adversely affected by this. Rural health services are generally less costly than their urban equivalents.

I don't buy it. One of us is right and one of us is wrong and right now there is no way of telling. I am going to choose to think positive. The future will dictate the winner of this debate. Who knows we may bother be half right. I am not expecting this to be prefect. I am sure they will have to make adjustments and such like they always do but it is a start.

Frankly, I hope you are right. I am sure the Senate will address appropriately sections of the bill where unintended consequences may be too serious to leave as written in the House bill.
