I love this game. The NES version is amazing and has the best music, but the PC version is easier to play since you can just point and click. (I can beat it in like 5 - 10 minutes on the PC).
Woot! Maniac Mansion! One of my all time favorite games on the NES! I also have this classic for Commodore 64, PC, and Amiga! I also have Day of the Tentacle on CD which I play it on my old school 486. Screw Dosbox, no emulation for me, I play my classic games on actual old school hardware! :D
This game was great back in the day. Quite a scary game when you're a young child, and a very fun one when you're an older child. I never did beat it I don't think, although I got really far at a young age. Maybe I should soon. Deja Vu and Shadowgate are some other great p'n'c adventure games.
@quicksaund im glad that heavy rain has made point and click popular but i hate everyone comparing every video game that's point and click style with heavy rain
Wow, so many memories of playing this as a kid... and, uh, not really understanding what to do, lol! But as an older man-child, I should go back and give this a shot! Thx CGRU!
OH MY GOD, this is one of my favorite games (along with the sequel, Day of the Tentacle). I remember trying to put the hamster in the microwave as a joke, and being stunned when it actually worked. The great thing is that the sequel made an inside joke about it when you try to do the same thing. Lavern, one of the character, warns you that kids who do that get taken away. This review perfectly sums up the experience, minus the lack of a mention of the hamster.
This is my all time favourite game, I first played it on the Commodore 64 when I was really young. It was my first video gaming experience! Thank you for reviewing this!
Coincidently, I was just talking to someone about this game this afternoon. Derek, you showed amazing restraint by not demonstrating the infamous hamster-in-a-microwave.
@Docthewrench Actually the exploding hamster was somehow left in the NES version. So since the NES version is supposed to be censored, I'm wondering what was cut from the original game that's worse than a microwaved hamster.
@GonchyT it was mostly text that got cut, such as edna saying "silly me, I should have tied you to my bed" when she put you in the dungeon. And the classic: "the meteor is going to be pissed". :)
