this is an excellent tutorial, i was just wondering does it matter what size hoop you have, mines is a 40inch dance hoop and some simple moves i struggle with, could the size be a problem? Thanks! Carly x
You can do it with any size hoop. Mine in this video is 43 I think. The roundness doesn't matter as much as the heaviness. Heavier hoops require more wrist strength. I recommend going lighter. I find a 100 psi hoop ideal.
Nice tutorial , I kept hitting my head :( And i dont like it now , ive been attempting for a good half hour and i failed. i think i only had one sucessfull one?
You may not be bending forward far enough. Or you may be looking at the hoop, probably because you're afraid of hitting yourself, which throws off the entire posture. (I gave myself a black eye doing that when I was learning.) Where are you hitting yourself on the head? Exactly?
Ttry closing your eyes and falling forward from the heart. Feel the hoop from the inside out. If you have to chase it a while, do it but try to feel it rolling on the back of your arm, then the back of the shoulders.
Lol thanks , i dont know but ive hit myself lots haha :) Thankyou for replying because i really want to do this .uum ... im hitting my head ( does it again too see) the top back of my head , and my back , top back and lower back ,
It sounds like some of it's your release. If you're hitting yourself in that many different places, I'd say that your wall plane is not flat in front of you or, when you flip it up onto the back of your hand, you're not releasing it straight. Is it going up your arm?
Also, remember to keep your head in alignment with your shoulders and drop from the heart. Don't keep your head up. Try this. try to do this move almost upside down, crown toward the floor. See where it lands then and correct.
Try to slow the rotation down as much as possible. This will give you more control. And we control our speed by controlling our breathing. Breathe in deep, pause, breathe out slow, taking as long as it took you to breathe in, pause, repeat. Do this the whole time you're hand hooping and as you release the hoop. Notice any place you stop breathing and breathe into that place. Long and slow. This will help a lot. Many people rush and throw it and lose all control, mostly out of fear. Breathe.
Thank you so much! I have only been hooping a few weeks, so I thought this trick was way too advanced. But with your tips I got it on the second try. I can't tell if I'm doing it exactly right since I don't have a mirror where I practice...but it goes from one hand to the other so I must be close. This is my first youtube comment, but I had to say thanks.
You did a great job... I really like the part where you said think of your hand as a pool cue, it really helped me. Before I'd always get a bounce or it would slip away from me. Thanks so much!
:) So glad I found this video Carloeeena! I had been having trouble figuring out how to toss the hoop from my hand - I kept tossing it up and your pool-cue idea really helps me out!:) Thanks - Happy New Year :)
I'm so glad i found a tut on this trick... now to go try it! thanks!
My cat always decides he's going to plop himself down right at my feet whenever i'm practicing hooping, and i'm always afraid i'm going to hit him! looks like your kitty at least knows to run away from the hoop if it's coming towards him. (thankfully, my Rocky's never been hit with my hoop)
Caroleeeena! You are fabulous! What size and weight hoop are you using? I have just started dancing w/ hoopnotica and their hoop seems a bit too heavy for this and some of the isolations. thanks for sharing your talents!
The very best tutorial I've seen on this! I'm going to try/practice your way between the fingers instead of the way I have been doing it. You look so elegant and smooth when you do it!
Thanks this is a great tutorial. My rabbit likes to sit at my feet when I am hooping which is dangerous when I am doing it.
