i saw them at night one of an outdoor concert opening for vampire weekend, I was blown away by them, that I came back the second night and peeked over the fence for their set, just to see them again. then left. I was into them prior to seeing them, but the live stuff solidified them as the real deal, such beautiful music.
some may disagree but they need more mainstream exposure. i saw a video of them on muchmoremusic in Canada (props to them). the world is a better place when quality music from the heart and true unfiltered creation enters our lives. simple but effective song writing with addictive, catchy but intelligent rhythms. that's why I want more people to know about Beach House.
@gmpm - Dude I completely agree. It disturbs me when fans of bands don't want them to become a little more mainstream. Hopefully, if this were to happen, a precedent would be set for good music to finally start coming out of the mainstream again. I will admit it, Beach House has literally made me cry from the beauty of their music. It's a true shame that most music today doesn't have this effect on its listeners.
Wow. This performance is mesmerizing. I've been obsessed with this song for the past year, and each live performance has something new and interesting to it. I particularly love the percussive change-up at 3:06. Just great...
@madeyes4u Right, it shouldn't be your problem, but it looks like you made it. Funny how you felt so compelled to reply to me. Maybe you're a little offended that I don't like your music? Too bad. Sounds like it is your problem then. Bahahaha! And anyway, I was commenting about the music, not talking to any of you. FYI, the people here really at fault are the musicians. If a musician fails to move the listener, than it really is their problem. On topic: this band is overrated. Just sayin'.
@StarPowa57 You got it all twisted!! If the musician fails to move the listener, then it's the LISTENER'S problem. The listener can simply choose to move on and find something that they like, or they can bitch about it. Either way, the said musician will happily continue on pleasing other listeners. That simple.
@madeyes4u Actually, it really isn't the listener's problem. Good music is transcendental. This shit doesn't do it for me because it ain't that good. I think it's really funny when people get so worked up about a band they like. Any negative feedback, and someone with an opposing opinion is suddenly "bitching." I can say whatever I want about this band, so you quit your bitching to me. Music like this has it's place for the less musically inclined. I need music that inspires.
@StarPowa57 Actually, it really is the listener's problem, and especially if it's someone like you who thinks every piece of music you come across is supposed to inspire you. Have you ever thought that bands may not release music solely for your benefit? Hmmm...think about that one.
And if you were musically inclined (like you think you are), then you'd appreciate this for what it is & simply walk away. I don't like Slipknot, but whatever. It's all music and it's all subjective.
@madeyes4u Making music for everyone's benefit is the musician's job. Like I said, it's actually the musician's problem when they don't. You cannot dispute this. You think about that. By the way, I don't just think I'm musically inclined - it's something that I know. Also, you're the one who replied to my comment in the first place. I stated my opinion and left, you're the one who insists on communicating with me. Stop talking to me if you don't like my opinion and want me to "simply walk away".
@StarPowa57 Dude, obviously you're just fucking stupid. It's NOT up to the musician to please you as a listener and yeah, I can and will dispute this because you're wrong. You've already proven that you're not musically inclined because you can't even understand this elementary concept.
And for your sake, I will stop talking to you about this because clearly, you don't get the whole purpose of making music. People do it for themselves, not for the listeners pleasure or benefit. Asshole.
@madeyes4u Look how angry you are; you're swearing at me! You're an idiot. If you knew anything about making music, real music, you would know that it's not made for yourself. You obviously don't know anything about the purpose of music in this universe. You haven't reached the level of understanding it takes to know this. True musicians know that music is a gift from the universe. As a musician, it is your responsibility to make music for everyone to enjoy. Creation is not a selfish act. Jerk.
@StarPowa57 You sound like a 15 year old kid, dude. And yeah, true musicians do know that music is a gift from the universe and musicians also have the right to make music solely for themselves and totally disregard opinions. Oh yeah, and I have the right to swear if that's what I want to do, but if I was angry I'd be sure to let you know. Now go fuck yourself. Meanwhile, I'll continue to enjoy this band and spread the word about them.
@madeyes4u Lol! You replied again! And you sound even younger than that, "dude". True musicians make music for everyone to enjoy. Creation is not a selfish act. You are too ignorant to know this. Too bad for you. You enjoy you're shitty music. Music like this exists to "entertain" the feeble-minded, lesser evolved. Of course you have the right to swear. Say what you want, as will I. You're just really flustered, and I find it hilarious. Bottom line is, this music ain't the good. You enjoy, dude!
@StarPowa57 you're wrong man. i dont care if you like this band or not but to say that musicians solely create music for others to enjoy is retarded. musicians make music that pleases them which in response pleases listeners who have similar taste in music as them. when a musician makes music to please others we call that a "sell-out", which isn't a good title.
@iamkingmoonracer No. I'm right. I'm not talking about sell-outs. If you knew anything about creation, you wouldn't assume this. I'm talking about real musicians. Real musicians understand the purpose of making music in this universe. It's a gift MEANT to be shared. That is the purpose of the musician. What's retarded is to think otherwise. Sell-outs make music for the money. Musicians make music for the people. Stop trying to dispute this, because I'm right. And for the record, I'm a woman.
@StarPowa57 selling out for money is practically the same thing as selling out for a crowd. did van gogh create his art for other peoples' taste? no, people didn't even know who he was until he died. he created art that pleased him and in turn people with similar taste appreciated it. it's the same with music.
@iamkingmoonracer No, you're wrong again. That's an awful analogy. Music plays a different role than visual art. It's meant to be heard. Musicians make music because they desire to be heard.
@StarPowa57 you're a fucking idiot! visual art and music are different things but they are both created by artists who have their own unique style. both create art that reflects their feelings. have you ever heard of a musician who wrote a song about their own experiences? which is just about all of them. thats how you can tell musicians don't make music to fit other people's taste. take jimi hendrix, do you think he created his music for other people's taste? if you do then thats embarrassing.
@iamkingmoonracer No, you're the only idiot here. Please stop trying to prove me wrong, because you can't. You don't know anything about Jimi Hendrix. Yes, Jimi used music as a means to express himself. I understand it reflects his feelings. That's what music is, emotion. He's made some of the best emotional music on the planet. The purpose of music in this universe is to illumine people. Jimi had a gift, and he understood his role as a musician - to touch people. That's why he's a legend.
@StarPowa57 thats contradicting what you said before. and yes i know plenty about jimi hendrix. the point im trying to make is that musicians don't create music based on other people's tastes, they create it on their own...thats what we were arguing about the whole time and you just changed your argument. therefore, beach house, even in their interviews, clearly state that their music is created from their minds, not for what others want. its what they want and in turn people admire it and enjoy
@iamkingmoonracer I knew that you were gonna come at me saying that I've changed my argument. The fact is, you just don't understand what I'm arguing. Musicians make music for the people. That has nothing to do with where it's coming from or trying to appease other people's taste. True musicians know that they don't have to make music for people's taste, it's just that they have to make music for the people. That's why great music is transcendental. Why can't you grasp this concept?
OK, but definitely not as good as people think they are. They're music sounds nice, but it's unexciting. I'm not saying that because of the genre, because I know the nature of this type of music (and there is so much potential). This band, however, does not tap into that potential. I want music that MOVES me. I don't feel anything when I listen to them - I just hear a combo of nice sounds.
this is even better than the album version. how can this be. incredible voice and just such a catchy tune, can listen to it over and over and over and over and over again and not get bored of it in the slightest. bassline is ridiculously good.
Beautiful, dreamy, inspiring... reminiscent of Cocteau Twins ( a bit), Joni Mitchell, electronica, rock... obviously you can't put them into a category. Love it!
I swear this band is gonna blow up... I can't be the only one who is completly obsessed with there music. When I bought Teen Dream , After I listened to it I instantly made 2 copies and put the original in a safe place. It reminded me of listening to the White Album for the first time.

@callmesirsmoove Are you serious! really? I got to google it right now. Its weird because I was feeling a Stevie Nicks vibe when the video started, like a 70s 80s song type and long hair ... she just reminded me of Stevie
@ColorMePink33 i suppose not, with regards to the couple of mistakes she makes there in the singing...i've spotted that before, she's not handling her voice entirely occasionally, which is a shame, she should def. work on it! beautiful colour though..
Rythmic, elliptical melodies with Victoria Legrand's unique modality combine to synthesize a very hypnotic and energizing sound.
I saw them play in a bingo hall in a hard rock casino, and this was their first song. With Large white pyrimids on stage and a subtle light show was awesome. I highly suggest seeing them live the bass from those bass pedals resonates in your chest cavity...look em' up they are on tour now. Oh yea vapmpire weekend was good too.
I declare myself in love and addicted to Victoria Legrand. Every time I hear Victoria´s voice, I feel something realy nice along my skin.... ohh my...
@XxEmoLuvIsShortxX Hmmm...interesting that he didn't use base pedals at the performance where you saw them. Maybe they had an actual bass guitarist for that particular show? Either way, you're definitely right as far as artists having their own unique and particular ways of moving about on stage.. If you'd like, check out their performance on The Infterface at Spinner.com, you'll see what I mean abount him playing the base pedals though, and he was also wearing socks..
@noema93chrome Yes, he does seem to be moving around quite a bit. :-)
Actually, the reason he is sitting in a chair and bouncing around so much is because he is playing the base notes on a foot pedal board while he is playing the guitar. I saw him doing that on a different video of the same song.
i think i'm in love. I listen to this like 1864251236 times a day. This is love :)

Beach House is some of the best music to get stoned to especially Devotion.

@noema93chrome he's playing bass pedals.

@noema93chrome Yes, he does seem to be moving around quite a bit. :-)
Actually, the reason he is sitting in a chair and bouncing around so much is because he is playing the base notes on a foot pedal board while he is playing the guitar. I saw him doing that on a different video of the same song.
