i'm gonna translate the best way i can. It's very spiritual with lot of muslim notions and also traditional moroccan and gnawa culture so translating it to english is not easy and it's not gonna be 100% accurate but it's something like that:
"Father, great man, god is our lord,
father, there's reward for those who pray and ask for peace upon the prophet,
Father oh father... that's what happened to me great man,
You let me alone, I couldn't forgive you,
Oh father dear father, god is our lord!"
Did my best sorry if it's not 100% accurate. like Razor said it's some kind of tribute for his father, although "father" can be seen as some kind of spiritual guide!
@Riquelme1986 Thank you very much for this translation. I felt bad to have listened to such a beautiful story for years without understanding its meaning.
I live with my mom and she smokes so the WHOLE house smells of smoke most of the time....I remember sophomore year of highschool getting a pack of 'Peach Optimos' from my brother skipping school and I remember in particular the scene the Cowboy Bebop when this song played in the movie at about 8 in the morning just laying back smoking my optimo having it burn my lungs with each inhale but I felt like a total boss with this song playing while Spike was smoking HIS cig
well i will get you the lyrics i am half moroccan but can speak it properly gonna get my dad to translate it lol it was weird becuase i was like this sounds like home then year xD
I think this is one of the most interesting and touching songs of the whole cowboy bebop soundtracks..Does anyone know the meaning of the song?? Or the lyrics??

@Riquelme1986 Mate for years I've wanted to know what he was saying in this song. Even if it's not 100% accurate, cheers nonetheless.

Hey,
It's Moroccan i think, wich don't surprise me because of the moroccan street we can see in the movie.
Basically it's a tribute to his father : " Ya baba, Ya sidi, el hbib..." :
"Oh mon père, oh grand homme, mon aimé" etc etc :
Ya = Oh
Baba = father
"Sidi" = qualify a muslim believer who's made the mecca pilgrimage, it's a respectfull term.
I couldn't understand the rest of the lyrics i'll make my own father work on it !
