There were many defenders of Southern heritage there, and many local Charleston people, both white and black. There was no hatred that day, and nobody had a bad thing to say over the sight of those Stainless banner-draped coffins taking those 8 men to their final rest.

The South has been given a bad name ever since Reconstruction. People have been taught to look at the Confederacy as the "bad guys". This is just like when we killed all of the indians off, and the US Amry tried to make it look like they were the bad guys, when they were just trying to defend their people.
I would also like to say that I don't really care about what the rest of the country thinks or is doing, considering there seems to be a huge decline in the Christian Faith throughout everywhere outside of the South. I know that we have our own problems, but what I am trying to say is that we are a people of God in the South and we should hold on to our values. I too was there. I was on the peninsula, and serving on the first gun to fire the final salute. Shame that there was not a film crew to film the salute. Fifty guns firing in intervals was just awesome!
It is so nice that they found these soldiers and gave them a proper military burial. These men changed the course of warfare "forever" and were incredibly brave to sign up for this type of duty.

vernon, maybe you should read up on history, the south didnt secede to keep their slaves, they seceded because the south was more favorable to states rights, and when Lincoln was elected he supported a strong federal govt. Slavery was a time honored practice in Africa. Africans sold Africans to other Africans. White Europeans did not start slavery, yes they did horn into it, but the Africans were doing a fine job all on their own selling slaves to one another and to the Arabs long before the White man showed up. Your ancestors no doubt lost some tribal war to another tribe, who than sold them to the Euros.
If the Euros had not shown up than your ancestors would have either 1) been made slaves to another African tribe or nation, 2) wound up in the Arab market, 3) been killed or sacrificed. The Africans who live in West Africa today are the descendants of those who defeated, enslaved, and removed (by selling them to the Euros) your ancestors from Africa. Here is some useful dates of the abolition of slavery for reference purposes (not complete): Iceland 1117, Sweden 1335, Russia 1723 (still had surfs), Vermont 1777 (1st U.S. state), Scotland 1778, Sierra Leone 1787 (Due to the British intervention, first African country), Haiti 1804, Britain, 1833, USA 1863-1865, Cuba 1886, Korea 1894, China 1906, Iran 1928, Ethiopia 1942, Saudi Arabia 1962. etc.

It is a term still in use today about the 10th Amendment to the Constitution that clearly states that all powers not designated to the federal government by the first nine amendments to the Bill of Rights are regulated totally to the individual State governments!
my Greatgrandfather served with the union army for 4 years. In 1959 my Grandfather hosted the meeting of the Daughters of the Confederacy held in Detroit, MI. The 1st meeting held out side the South. Here is a simple example: James Beckwourth, an African-American mulatto trapper in the early to mid-19th century, became a chief of the Crow tribe, because he was good at taking Blackfeet (another tribe) scalps, and because he was good a fighting the Cheyenne, the traditonal enemy of the Crow, who has stolen their land, stole/slaved their people, raped their women etc. Are you starting to get the picture? I was there at the Hunley funeral in April 2005, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't.
There were many defenders of Southern heritage there, and many local Charleston people, both white and black. There was no hatred that day, and nobody had a bad thing to say over the sight of those Stainless banner-draped coffins taking those 8 men to their final rest.

vernon, maybe you should read up on history, the south didnt secede to keep their slaves, they seceded because the south was more favorable to states rights, and when Lincoln was elected he supported a strong federal govt. Slavery was never the main issue of the war, not even after the Emancipation Proclamation, it was just part of restoring the union.

Second, you do realize it was those "nasty white people" called Europeans and yes Americans who in the end stopped the world wide slave trade. They ended it in their own lands, they ended it in Africa (by defeating the African tribes that practiced in it), they ended the Arab slave trade. The Arabs traded more Africans than the "white people" did, and alas the Arabs are doing it today again yet that does not bother you does it?

Slavery was a time honored practice in Africa. Africans sold Africans to other Africans. White Europeans did not start slavery, yes they did horn into it, but the Africans were doing a fine job all on their own selling slaves to one another and to the Arabs long before the White man showed up. Your ancestors no doubt lost some tribal war to another tribe, who than sold them to the Euros.

If the Euros had not shown up than your ancestors would have either 1) been made slaves to another African tribe or nation, 2) wound up in the Arab market, 3) been killed or sacrificed. The Africans who live in West Africa today are the descendants of those who defeated, enslaved, and removed (by selling them to the Euros) your ancestors from Africa. Yet I don't see you getting angry about that? Why is that?

The euros were not saviors or villains, but just doing what EVERY OTHER GROUP OF PEOPLE ON THIS EARTH DID AT THE TIME. The Africans were being sold to other Africans long before the Euros showed up, so does it really matter if your ancestors were sold to white people, or to black people, or would rather they had been sacrificed? Unlike you however I do care about slavery in parts of Africa. That p.o.w. bit is a good example of your denial. The fact is the vast majority of Africans captured by other Africans were sold into slavery, or killed. That is a fact, because the winning tribe or nation wanted the land. The Kingdom of Congo was a good example. Another was the Annual Custom of Dahomey were p.o.w.s were sacrificed not enslaved, so maybe that is better? Let me know! You are in serious denial about Africa's role in enslaving their own people or the general history of slavery.

BTW: Rev. Wright was a racist and even though I don't think Obama is racist, I do think he is foolish (just like many other presidents we have had for the last 40 plus years). One of the major reasons for the Civil war was slavery, no doubt, but other reasons like, immigration, loyal to ones state, the definition of what the United States was and is (collection of states, or one super state), was very much in debate pre-civil war. It was a collection of issues that finally boiled over.

Actually the abolistionist movement was born in the Christian Church in Europe and in America. Here is some useful dates of the abolition of slavery for reference purposes (not complete): Iceland 1117, Sweden 1335, Russia 1723 (still had surfs), Vermont 1777 (1st U.S. state), Scotland 1778, Sierra Leone 1787 (Due to the British intervention, first African country), Haiti 1804, Britain, 1833, USA 1863-1865, Cuba 1886, Korea 1894, China 1906, Iran 1928, Ethiopia 1942, Saudi Arabia 1962. etc.

It is a term still in use today about the 10th Amendment to the Constitution that clearly states that all powers not designated to the federal government by the first nine amendments to the Bill of Rights are regulated totally to the individual State governments!

my Greatgrandfather served with the union army for 4 years. In 1959 my Grandfather hosted the meeting of the Daughters of the Confederacy held in Detroit, MI. The 1st meeting held out side the South. He was a member of the Sons of Union Veterans. I still have the photos from the Detroit news, Thank you for the nice video.

Here is a simple example: James Beckwourth, an African-American mulatto trapper in the early to mid-19th century, became a chief of the Crow tribe, because he was good at taking Blackfeet (another tribe) scalps, and because he was good a fighting the Cheyenne, the traditonal enemy of the Crow, who has stolen their land, stole/slaved their people, raped their women etc. Are you starting to get the picture? Humans are violent. "Whites" are no better and no WORSE than "Blacks", "Asians" etc.
