If the rose bent over to the ground and presented to the world its thorns, hiding its bud, would you say there are too many buds? "Isn't it?" lol Seriously though... Isn't it what you achieve at end for the benefit of those around you that matters? Not root under the soil or the defense mechanisms you've constructed while climbing to height, but the delicate beauty you reach out with to make things for the observer a little more pleasant.
