I can't say for sure Obama is an "elitist" nor Hillary Clinton was experienced in helping lower-middle class people (esp. whites in the southern states). The Democrat party is historically a party associated with underclass portions of the American voting base, i.e. progressive movements in the early 1900's, labor rights & union support, expanding itself to include the Black vote since the 1960s & organized ethnic minority political power. But the issue now is to organize non-wealthy voters. +
