901's by far the best between the two of them. Battery life, performance and size are some of the key words you look for in both hardwares; netbooks.901 battery life by default is:8.30Hrs. MSI battery life by default is:2 hrs or $100 bucks extra if you want the extended battery or 6 cells battery.Eeepc is 2 to 3 inchs smaller in size compare to the hardware of the MSI.The performance is basically the same since they both have a n260 Atom Intel CPU. Storage solely depends on your needs and money.
@voteboo I'd rather have an msi over an eee anyday, if you cant afford the msi, go for the rebadged advent which is avaliable for 80 pounds pre owned here in the uk on ebay
Overclocking is when you run the processor at a higher frequency than it was set at from the factory. This does not void your warranty and is actually built in to some versions of the wind (i had to flash my bios to do it, but my friends did it from the factory) Overclocking it made it noticeably faster and play games better
Hmmm...... Hey, so if I wanna game, would going for a netbook, or a notebook, or whatever they're called (The tiny ones, lol =P) be a bad idea? Or not? Because you said that you played games on it. Or should I lean towards a lapop? =\ Please help! =O
The Asus 901 was the best choice for me. I am used to small computers, had a Toshiba Libretto, so the keyboard and screen size feel big to me. It had the most features that I wanted standard - Bluetooth, 802.11n wireless, solid state drive, multitouch on the trackpad (similar to the Macbook/iPod), and, most importantly a 6 cell battery. With the price drop, it's now under $450 new. Even the Ethernet port, 10/100 on the specs, shows up as a gigabit port in the system info on my machine.
I do love it, but i would prefer to have windows as at the moment im having difficulty using softwear with the asus program. But still a great notebook.
Yes, we all know the EEE PC is the smallest, but bear in mind that the very few inches the MSI has more are because of its 10inches display, which is definitely an asset the EEE doesn't have.
If you don't like the 8.9" screen on the EEE 901, then look at the 1000H. Standard hard disk drive, 10" screen, keyboard 92% of normal size, and a battery that lasts twice as long as the Wind -- and it can be had for $400 on ebay.
Also, the Wind doesn't support 802.11n, has little to no room for extra mods (usb hub?), and doesn't support either multi-touch on the touchpad or a touchscreen add-on.
msi is a best of the three. eee pc 900 is still but hp mininote is the worst netbook of all time. hp mini note has video play black problems. hp mini note sucks. the best so far is msi or eee pc.
i had never problems with msi products! its the same with apple and other well known brands, there are always people who hate same without reasons....
I have just got the MSI Wind U100, I am quite pleased with it, the screen is brighter than any other laptop I have owned, the performance is quite good, it weighs 1.2kg so it's not too heavy, there are some problems but they can be easily fixed by updating the bios to the latest version (1.05). Only thing I dislike is the battery life, a 3 cell battery lasts 2 hours, although I hear the 6 cell is coming out in late August. Overall, brilliant laptop, 8/10. HP is slow, dont buy it.lol
But with the eee PC 1000, especially the H range they start becoming similar. With the eee pc having similar sized keyboard and bigger HDD. I think 45 for flash and 80 for normal HDD.
I am buying this wind not later July 18, 2008. Please contact me 09228285918. I am looking for the best deal. Together with it I am buying DVD writer (external) for it and optical mouse. If if possible, I would like to upgrade its 3cell to 6 cell.
for sure, any of these computers are going to be easier for web browsing in terms of the screen size, but for carry anywhere laptops EEE PC 701 did get the footprint 100% right in my opinion.
I think people craving any of these tiny laptops owe some thanks to Asus for having the balls to go the EEE PC route and in turn making them all more affordable...
Maybe I am completely off base here, but I don't think Asus is sticking to the original deal here. The 1000 Eee PC will supposedly retail for over $600 when it comes out in July. It will still only have about 18 GB of hard drive space. Meanwhile the MSI Wind coming out early July will have 80 GB hard drive, 1.6 Ghz processor, etc. and will retail for $499. Hmmmm, I'll go for the lower priced one and deal with it being a few inches bigger for better performance.
i would agree with you, but the weight and size are my concerns. but i do agree with you about asus raising it's prices... and i have noticed the laptops seem to be creeping larger and larger in size?
HP mininote though has a keyboard you can live with, the EEEPC has this tiny shift key were the mininote has a big almost full sized shift key. Both are good but the mininote is better if you have to type out a long document while on the move.
@johnmonk66. The point of these computers is to small and portable. Asus could have made the eeepc out of a cheap heavy metal, or led, and made it weigh much more, but they are keeping it light.
to it's credit, the HP does have an excellent keyboard, but it doesn't take most people long to get used to the EEE PC 901 sized keyboard.
you are right, it might be stronger, but I believe HP's weight is quite considerable for this size PC. (I don't think they shouldn't bring their usual "2.5Kg+ monster laptop PC" ideas in to ultra-mobile computing)
The HP runs on the pokey VIA cpu. Other than the harddisk drive which MSI also uses, there isn't ANY performance advantage by HP over any Atom based mini notebooks.

TheJackHoles 3 years ago
which one? 700? 900? 901? 1000? 1000H?
jshek00 3 years ago
Depends on needs.
Pros of Wind
-Good sized keyboard
-Bigger HDD
Negs of Wind
-Normal HDD not flash, so therefore non silent
-Bigger than 700/900 series
But with the eee PC 1000, especially the H range they start becoming similar. With the eee pc having similar sized keyboard and bigger HDD. I think 45 for flash and 80 for normal HDD.
So it all depends on usage.

Asus EEE PC 901 (1.1Kg) : Intel Atom 1.6GHz
Asus EEE PC 1000 (1.3Kg) : Intel Atom 1.6GHz
MSI Wind (1Kg) : Intel Atom 1.6GHz
HP mini-note 2133 (1.27kg): Via C7 1.2GHz - 1.6GHz
---------
EEE PC's SSD is nice, but the speed of it is nothing to rave about, I'd prefer a HDD until "REAL" SSD price drop :P
conicsnet 3 years ago
MSI Wind definitely bigger in size than 901.
Most likely I will rather get the 901.
I have sold my 701 recently due to the screen size is too small for comfort surfing. Can't stand the left/right scrolling when looking at the webpage.

I'm not too thrilled about shift keys being moved where they shouldn't be like on the asus.

hp feels heavy? its called quality. metal weighs more than plastic.
and you should have compared keyboards, the hp is the only one with a keyboard you can type on comfortably

to it's credit, the HP does have an excellent keyboard, but it doesn't take most people long to get used to the EEE PC 901 sized keyboard.

for real typing, the asus ketboard is too much work. plus the hp is still under 3 lbs, if that is too heavy you need to exercise more.
and if you bumped up the asus's specs to match the hp it would cost as much, but still have that crappy keyboard.
johnmonk66 3 years ago
what specs?
The HP runs on the pokey VIA cpu. Other than the harddisk drive which MSI also uses, there isn't ANY performance advantage by HP over any Atom based mini notebooks.
