I always wondered at my Father’s emotional coldness & his lack of physical affection towards Mum & me- but shortly before he died last year he revealed an awful secret to me.

Back in his 20s he had been forced to regularly perform fellatio on his boss in order to keep his job & then gain successive promotions. A product of his generation, he constantly worried that this abuse might ‘turn him queer’ & indeed that I might turn out homosexual. Terrified, he shut himself off from his family.
