How many people have prophesised the end of the world? Several 1000 no doubt. Normally people prediuct such tings as there is a lack of knowledge on the person making the prediction and they are scared of the outcome. If these sorts of experiments are not carried out we will never further our knowledge of the Universe. I, for one, am looking forward to the results from the LHC and the possible discovery of the Higgs-Boson. It's discovery would be a triumph for science and particle physics.

-Hawkings Radiation does not exist

-The MBHs would have to be moving very, very slowly

the book of Revelations talks all about the events occuring at the end of the world. it may not use the word rapture, but thats the term used to describe the common belief that yes, jesus will in fact return. and a bunch of complicated stuff will happen that i cant remember off the top of my head, but basically its the end of the world. go read Revelations

I don't understand why everyone thinks that the "danger" accompanying the LHC is a cataclysmic explosion. The big threat are microscopic black holes (MBHs). The thing is, people don't understand that the MBH would have to have almost no speed in order to be caught in Earth's grav. pull, AND how small MBHs are. They're as small as atoms themselves, and even if they exponentially grow, it would take some billions of years for it to double its mass. It has almost no pull -- it's not like a vacuum!
