I dont think a band with two less guitars sounds better just different. I do tend to favor Mudhoney material over Green River, but they are different.

King Buzzo has mentioned numerous times that Green River said the song didn't fit their style, so they gave it to the Melvins. They also give Green River credit for writing it on the recordings.
