  • yoko replied in 2012,

knew she was the lil keeper ;)

    all to be revealed

  • That bass lick at the end comes from "19th Nervous Breakdown"

  • walrus alert 2011

    /watch?v=oOAk2amt-NY

bp oil spill wants life back and whatnot

  • Colin's bass line is just ridiculous...

  • stratosphe A R !!!!!!!!!

  • Bought this on vinyl in the cut-out bin in '88.

  • Their loving tip of the hat makes it a joyride. The lead here is stellar, I hear Clapton's 'woman tone",then morph briefly to a Randy California thing & punctuated by some beautifully Krieger-esque distortion .."It's all too much" ;-)

  • @TumbrelJockey P.S. Rather, "accentuated by some beautifully Krieger-esque distortion"

  • xtc are great, but they are lousy compared to the dukesLOL

  • @MoveOverCasanova

i think xtc would agree with you

  • This is one of the most perfect records of all time.

  • That bass line is very hip.

  • @Frisbieinstein I agree. I think it carries the whole song. Not to diminish the song, but the bassline is outstanding...as are all of his lines. Colin Moulding is an under-appreciated bassist and songwriter.

  • I like this song, I'm going to get the album in a few days. I'm looking forward to it.

  • @101Volts Can you still find this album?

  • @lcacwelder Yes, If you buy it online. Amazon stocks it or you could directly buy from Andy Partridge's own record company.

  • I thought this band just copied Beatles stuff in a gimickie way, ~but now I understand :).

  • Nothing - and I mean nothing - inspires the soul like these guys. Have been an XTC fan for many years and love to hear this anytime and anyplace. Ah, I'm in Namibia rock'n out!

  • Even though this is a pop song, it sings of more than just the pop overtones it brings. The music is far too often overlooked as just playful musings.

  • "Wakey Little Sleeper" is the one I'm looking for.

  • I keep thinking that if they'd waited three years and done this entirely straight, they would have fit right in with the Stone Roses / Madchester / La's neo-psychedelic wave and hopefully would have dominated the charts.

  • always cool stuff from these guys do you know of more recent recordings by the members? I heard two of them have something called (mONSTRANCE) OR SOMETHING anyone heard it?

  • @bruce369able

Monstrance is Andy Partridge, and an old XTC member from a long time ago and founding member of Shriekback Barry Andrews.

  • love sure lives in a light house.

  • classy psych

  • f*%#! i'm so glad I stumbled on this... i miss this from my college days. fantastic.

  • I can dig it- Awesome album art as well.

  • The Dukes and Alice in Wonderland, I love you both.

  • I like "Matchstick Men" by Status Quo. so it's a one hit wonder!

  • if you and I and Jimmy Carter and Willie Neslson and that lil aLIEN KEEPER on the roof of the blackhouse

  • It really sucks that no one is writing songs like this anymore. THIS record was basically a tossed-off novelty, and it's STILL better than anything I ever hear on KCRW. Where are today's Andy Partridge's?

  • Amen to that.

  • @77hodag Sadly ,the Andy Partridge's of today have been replaced with P-diddy's,50 Cents and Beyonce's.SADLY!!!

  • @generationx1966 I hope that's not true! I'm sure there must be some good stuff out there you just have to find it.

  • @77hodag

Check out the new band "Dynamo Bliss." They only have one album out right now, but it's really good! You can download it for free off their website

  • @77hodag I know man. We got shitty lyricists like Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Nickleback, etc. The only "Andy Partridge" I have heard lately is Serj Tankian.

  • @77hodag Sadly,in hiding. Though I will say Thom Yorke is about as close as it gets in today's time.

  • @77hodag

Hella response! Man, Their work is genius here. Been a student of music all my life it seems. Todd was a wise choice for producing alot from the body of projects they have as well. Like minded for all intense and purposes. Andy has shared guitar suggestions (warmer chords) in interviews. He feels the music. Breaks rules. I love that!! Dukes ,settlement, skylarking ...what can I say..orgasmic! Woot! Melt the guns ooooowwww

  • @77hodag One resides in athens greece, I should know ;)

  • if you ever come across a better sexier greater band than the dukes please tell me who it is!

  • XTC ---- Ha Ha ------ (Of Course!!!!)

  • OK, and maybe "terry and the lovemen"! they made only one song, but it is so great it´s worth another´s lifetime´s work

  • thus noted

  • bill bruford would be kind enoug to laugh at the mock turtle soup's reply

  • ..and faint in coils ;)))))

  • she's peacock

  • and a pear tree...

  • this guys have a great talent to do anything. the album respresent their tribute to all the great band, beatles, floyd, who so on. just great

  • 'These' Zofo471.

  • when ever i really like a song i can tell cuz i get goosebumps....and i have goosebumps^^ hahaha thats a funny word, it doesnt make any sense....gooses dont have bumps!

  • after you pluck the feathers off it looks just like your skin with goosebumps

  • touché....

  • cool

  • thanks -

    6083

  • I like this song alot and I LOVE the one before it about the boy who thought he was a girl!! Hilarious lyrics.. this one rocks too!

  • I watched this little light house on the 4,444 viewing. my lucky number is 8 so I feel twice as good - times 4!

  • xtc rules, they did a great impersination of the beach boys on chips.

  • All the Dukes of Stratosphere stuff is released on the CD 'Chips from a Chocolate Fireball'. A must for everyone who loves The Beatles and the great pop and psychedelic music of the sixties. And beyond.

  • contrived as the brainianc;'s daughter

  • so if i painted myself red in the year of our lord 2008 all painted red , would i call you contrived?

  • Still, a great song, eh?

  • Great song from my favorite (eighties?) band...I could never understand why their popularity seemed to scare the members of XTC. An American band would have just run with it....

  • '85

  • Thanks for the information but I was making a little joke about the sound being '60s while the album was recorded in the '80s. Yes, I know..."extremely little..."

    Thanks for writing....

  • Ah. I see.

  • My guess is that they were such pompous and self-righteous asses that when they decided to lighten up and have fun, people responded positively and it threatened their fragile egos. Kind of like those that will invariably give Me the thumbs down.... LOL

  • I could not possibly agree with you more... And I also feel that is a sad thing; rock-n-roll in its early days was all about having fun. Thinking of the so-called "Hall of Fame" in Clevland one has to wonder if we have begun to take it all to seriously....

  • 2nd!

    25 O'clock please!

  • not bad;) upload 25 0clock please it would mean alot

  • far out!
