It's probably incorrect to say this was an "authentic" flight simulator, I seem to recall that most of the Microprose flight sims like F-15 Strike Eagle were a lot more authentic in feel. But this WAS great fun to play because you could pick it up and start flying around in minutes.
@JohnnyMindcrime What I mean by authentic is that you need more than a joystick for for controls opposed to arcade type games such as Afterburner and Wings. I know there are more complex and realistic sims even for Amiga. I didn't impy this game was military training approved :)
@einokeino303 Please don't take it as a criticism as it wasn't meant to be so. :-) It is a very good game from what I remember, I played it for many hours and I really should try it once again in UAE. But the point I was trying to make was that because it isn't a true flight sim, it's very easy to pick up quickly and just have fun playing it. There are a number of flight sims I have tried where I just gave up quite quickly for being too difficult to start.
@JohnnyMindcrime I didn't take your comment as a criticism and constructive critisism is always welcome! I tried to explain what I was thinking when I wrote the description. Since english is not my native language I sometimes use less appropriate word / expression when lacking a better one. Thanks for your comments :)
If you wanted to avoid enemy fighters, stay at 50 feet altitude. :) This game had interesting plane variety, but Flight of The Intruder was better simulation.
@Slurfs Yeah, unfortunately most 3D games on Amiga 500 were really slow, still tried to play games such as F1 GP and Gunship 2000 back then. Many 3D games run much better on faster Amigas.
@einokeino303 I played this on C64 and Amiga and the frames were a tad quicker on the C64, albeit it used wire-frame graphics! Some games were better on the C64 only because of lazy make-money-quick C64 conversions - same for PC conversions. This meant the Amiga always struggled when it shouldn't have!
The sensation of height from FB is still wonderfully convincing especially compared to other Amiga sims.Lots of great sims for this machine but distance and scale always appeared better handled here- at the least regards to this aspect
The one and only game my dad has completed for Amiga so it's probably his fave too on this system
Used to play the C-64 version; wasn't too bad - though obviously the Amiga had better graphics, I dare say the game play was the same. The only problem was in the C-64 version was that the 'targeting' of ground targets with GP Bombs or the Mavericks always seemed to be naff, whereas with this version the Maverick actually hit it's target - if anyone's played both versions, can they confirm this difference between the two?
Fighter Bomber was only beaten on the Amiga by F16 Combat Pilot - which had better gfx, systems (like autoland), dynamic campaign, and multiplayer by serial link...
@keeprighton2007 There was also Interceptor by Electronic Arts the one that had a Top Gun theme on the load screen it featured also mission from an aircraft carrier or a mission in which you had to intercept Air Force One and escort it to the runway
Just hearing the title music brought back so many memories of playing this, would have tv on normal volume then that mental tune would come blasting out and you would shit yersel....quality!
The feeling of height and movement you get from FB compared to all other Amiga sims, is unmatched in my opinion
I loved my time with Microprose flight sims but there was always a wobbly 3d nature to how the polygons displayed and little feeling of height.Smart games mind
F18 was the most fun to just jump into and have a blast.Superb game
F29 felt far too arcade like to be a serious sim and although i liked Falcon a little, it too lacked a feeling of flight
my dad playd this Game his higherst mission was the 11nd i can remeber it was a "time" mission you have only 60min to compleat the Hard dutys at every Ceckpoint .
Holy Shit, I use to fire Fighter Bomber just to hear the intro music! I've been searching for a long time to hear it again, would love to get a rip of it!

In this game I went to full altitude, like 30000 ft, went into a dive , pulled out, I cleared the ground by 5 feet.

This was my first ever simulation experience. To get that tent then fly east of Rapid City into Ellsworth and land the plane was a great feeling.

One of the first games I played on the Amiga. Great sound effects however the game was a bit 'laggy' so I got hooked on F/A-18 interceptor instead ;)

@einokeino303 Well, at time Amiga was the faster machine to run 3D games (vectorial 3D) because of the line-drawing and area-filling done by harware

Ahh.. I'd recognise those 3 pyramids anywhere :~)
Yeah the C64 version was a bit crap in terms of hitting ground targets... I used to sometimes land the plane and destroy them with cannon :P

I didn't finish any mission, because the original version wasn't available in my country.
