  • 1986 didn't look like that.

  • I thought the tenth planet was lost episode

  • @TheTheEg —the first three episodes still existed in the BBC archive. Episode 4 was lost, but the soundtrack still existed and, combined with remaining preserved footage and stills, a telesnap reconstruction of the lost episode was assembled to finally "complete" the story for its video release back around 1999 or 2000.

  • also watch my part to this story its in coulour

  • pliack will hartnell not sticking around in epiosde 3 and thats meant to be his last remaining epiosde and hes not in it serosly he might have been old but thats no exscuse and that old fart doing his scenes for the three doctors in his garage what a stupid old fart

  • @bioniclefactory1 Assuming you're not trolling, DW was shown nearly all year around back in the day. So the only way the actors could get vacation time was for them to write their character out of an episode. Bill Hartnell was also sick during his last year or two, and it was making it hard for him to work. Its the main reason he quit when he did. His illness was also why he couldn't leave his house to film The Three Doctors. He died about a year after the episode was made.

  • A black astronaut, and in command, too. Nice touch for the early sixties!

Too bad it took till the REAL mid-80s for that to happen!

  • Meh. Sorry but this is dated as all fuck. If you really need who classic series why not just start at season 7 (which is actually really quite good) and then work forward. I admire how brave the production team were with these but it just doesn't work on the screen.

  • @vorebiz well it was 1966 with a shoestring budget what do you expect over the top CGI

  • @TheSkully343 Don't be silly. I said Season 7 (Pertwee's first) People don't realise how big a jump Doctor Who made from the 60s to 70s sometimes.

  • @vorebiz Being "dated" does not make it bad. You could say that about every classic film. Just enjoy it for what it is. How can something made in 1966 NOT be dated?

  • My word, I used to watch this religiously as a kid, looking at it now I don't know how I could stand the poor quality. At least Star Trek was in colour. But I still love all those good old sci-fi's.

  • @0BatGirl0 Never mind the quality, whers the colour, eh??

  • youtube has it sown offical doc who channel, it may be on there.

  • No wonder the 11th dr wears a fez, it reminds him of his first form

  • Is this the first ep?

  • @blueravenvg No its the episode of when the 1st Doctor Regenerates.....The first ever Doctor Who Episode is called "An Unearthly Child" :) Lol im such a whovian for a 16 year old xD :P x

  • This is my favourite Who episode!!!!

  • It's too bad that the pilot episode was destroyed in a fire

  • @153ace pilot was destroyed??? I have the pilot

  • @153ace The pilot does exist/ I have it in 2 seperate versions. No episodes were destroyed in a fire but many were wiped.

  • Did I hear correctly? When the Doctor told the general "I don't like your tone, sir" (7:37), did the general actually say "And I don't like your face NOR your hair!'? Hilarious!!!!

  • thanks so much for uploading this i subbed

  • 0 people have bad taste

  • Doesn't the First Doctor's "hmphs" remind anyone of Yoda in Empire Strikes Back?

  • Shame that part 4 is missing :(

  • I love hearing English actors do American accents. There is a lot of that in the

    older Doctor Who episodes.

  • 1986 lol

  • "why don't you speak up? I'm deaf."

    haha

  • It is a shame episode four of this story, has been lost and may never be recovered in any way at all.

  • @rojblake82 same. The BBC should really do a remake of that epesode but make it black and white and old so it will fit in with the past epesodes. Just a thought

  • People? Bullshit. Oh, a woman you say?

  • the new doctor who series should really make episode about "unexplained shadow images or something", coming from 4th Dimension, where the story would continue about the mastermind coming from 9th,10th or even 11th dimension

  • If you wanna get a good background for the Doctor, strongly advise you watch the final episode of 'The War Games'. It explains a lot of questions that people had about the Doctor leading up to it.

  • Regarding the 'missing' episode 4 I'm sure it can soon be entirely recreated by using motion capture and putting the original actors features on. Just like they did for Jeff bridges to make him look like his younger self in the 2nd Tron film.I'm sure if all the WHO fans put just £1 towards the project there'd be more than enough funds.

  • Ok hey! Im a person who has never watched dr who before, but i find it rly interesting and i wanna see it! WHERE CAN I FIND THE FIRST EPISODE?!?! And if im too modern to watch the first ones then from which episode i should start to watch this serie if i want to understand the plot?: DDD

  • @ykskakskolnel They are one DVD. under the box set Doctor Who - The Beginning.

  • @RedDwarfObsessive you rock and thank you for bringing us these episodes that im not bothered to buy

  • @ykskakskolnel Try e-bay. The first series was broadcast Nov 1963 and was called "The Unearthly Child"

It';s on DvD entitled DR.Who the beginning, I think

  • @glitterknight But there isnt a UK net tv website where i could watch them for free? :' DDD I dont rly enjoy buying things in the internet, id prefer finding the dvd on a shelf in a dvd shop! : DDD

  • @ykskakskolnel watch them at crossing the Whoniverse there free

  • @ykskakskolnel

    At watchdoctorwho.co.uk

  • @ykskakskolnel

hi there im a mega doctor who fan the first ever episode is called "The Unearthly Child" you can watch it by typing into youtube search "doctor who the unearthly child part 1" but if youre of the younger generation like me you should watch the modern doctor who series which started in 2005 Find an episode called "Rose" its where doctor who is re introduced to our screns you'll pick it up from there and you'll never wanna stop :) Trust me, it how I came to love dr who so much : D

  • @ykskakskolnel If you want to start watching classic Doctor Who, I highly recommend starting with the Tom Baker episode called THE ARK IN SPACE and continue from there. His years are considered by many to be Doctor Who's "golden" years and are a great place to start. Then you can hop around for other Doctors' best episodes which include: THE DALEKS, INFERNO, THE SILURIANS, TERROR OF THE AUTONS, EARTHSHOCK, RESURRECTION OF THE DALEKS, CAVES OF ANDROZANI, ATTACK OF THE CYBERMEN and many more.

  • @elfhermie the silurains don't you mean and the silurians

  • @ykskakskolnel Also, all you really need to know about Doctor Who is that he is an alien who travels through space and time in a ship that looks like a police box. He has more than one life and as such has been played by several different actors, all of which are very unique (who you like best is a matter of personal taste, just like the James Bonds). He travels with various companions, solves mysteries, and saves the universe from baddies. It's a great show. Enjoy!

  • @ykskakskolnel Search for '' an unearthly child''

  • @ykskakskolnel you should watch the

ones with the really juicy stories like the entrance of a new companion or alien.the old dalek and cyberman episodes were especially scary.all the really interesting storylines have dried up

  • @ykskakskolnel lol every series from the 60s to the present is available on dvd, trust me when I say it will take you a while to catch up ... but you could start from the episodes from the 2000's and enjoy it just as much

  • @ykskakskolnel There is no plot until S1 Ep1 Rose in 2005 until then there would be small story arc's Like Dalek war, key to time, e-space trilogy, New begging's, The Black Guardian trilogy, and not to mention Trail of a timelord so hope you enjoy them as much as i do

  • @ykskakskolnel The start of the modern revived Doctor if you do not want to begin the at the start of the original series as well.

  • @ykskakskolnel I dont think you can see the first episode, some episodes were lost and some of the master-tapes where accidentally destroyed years ago

  • @ykskakskolnel type in Doctor Who Unearthly Child and it will take you to the right spot.

  • what year was the show made

  • @BoyznGirlz09 The Tenth Planet was October 1966.

  • I was 8 when this was first shown and it terrified me like no other series of the time. The first sight of the Cybermen's horrible cloth faces with human hands did give me nightmares,There was more maturity in these early episodes then many of the latest crop, Less theater - more scares. It hardly seems wriiten for children at all.

  • @ewaf88 I used to hide behind the sofa - no joke!!

  • @ewaf88 Except, perhaps, the one with Matt Smith where the woman and her two daughters all spoke with the same voice.

  • @1958debs Well happens in most families nowadays

  • Thanks for posting. This was the last of the 1st Doctor episodes I still needed to see.

  • Sweet. I've been looking for some of the First Doctor serials, particularly this one. Thanks for uploading this.

  • @HolyKatana

unfort the final episode is missing and said to be the most wanted episode ever.

  • i first discovered doctor who in the beast below i like matt smith as the doctor but also the others i am also a teenager

  • Only really trying to watch this because of Alex Day and Charlie McDonell.

  • I may be 16 now, but I first saw this (Along with many other First Doctor stories) a few years ago now. After the Chris Eccleston series, An Unearthly Child was the first Doctor Who story I saw. I still see William Hartnell as MY Doctor.

  • I am also a teen Who fan

  • This serial alone was the reason why I got into the older episodes, both because of the first appearances of the Cybermen and the Second Doctor. I often have trouble trying to make it through whole serials due to their large length, but Episode 4's Recon really got me into the older series as a whole, especially with its more internationally-involved plot and characters. Thus, this is probably my favorite serial of all time :D

  • Hey since you are practical givening this away you should send me an email copy of it

  • I watched this when I was a kid. I hated Star Trek. I watched it, but I couldn't really relate to dashing young military cadets who could seduce all the women in the galaxy. All the other tv shows just over flowed with sickly sentimentality. It was obnoxious. I'm so glad I was a kid at a time when I could discover a show like drwho (at least as it was back in the day when it was still old weird drwho, before it became a parody of itself).

  • Thank you for putting this up. I love how the prophecy of going to the moon has been fulfilled...Once again, the show was ahead of it's time.

  • american general's 3-star rank on his epaulet should be in a straight line!...but nice episode! / @ milwaukee

  • i've watched doctor who for as long as i can remember my dad taped quite a few of them and i knew most of the episodesby heart and i;m only 12

  • thanks I`m a fan

  • where did you get this this dosent exist on dvd or video

  • @turbojermyhamond it is on video. try looking on places like ebay for it

  • i watch this and im ten

  • The cybermen of this episode are just plain chilling to behold, and are even more frightening when one listens to the audiobook "Spare Parts" afterwoods.

  • @darkhyena Just listened to Spare Parts last night and I know exactly what you mean.

  • I wish I was born when they put this on TV.

  • i love this doctor he took no kind of nonsense from anybody.

  • today doctor who fans dont respect these old serials i mean they are great that doest mean i hate the new ones i like the new ones

  • 1986? Just got back from the moon and landed on Mars as well? Damn they were off

  • @jamesdean220103 i'm 13!! i love it!!

  • @ska206 i know my point was prven right!!!! yay

  • the last episode of the the 1st doctor shame please sub me

  • I happy 0 dislikes!!!!!!!!!

  • the moon what the heck i love doctor who but they need to be more realistic lolz

  • @TheR4freak .....realistic? its called science FICTION...not real! not really realistic!

  • Its so good to watch black and white doctor who especially this one i have been looking for ages for this one to add to my others. The black and white doctor who's are the best instead of hearing every time i wathc about freaking david bloody tennant who is the 2nd worst doctor of all

  • Hey! I'm 10 and I love doctor who!~ ESPECIALLY THE OLD ONES!

  • I really adore this series of Doctor Who. It is magnificent in every way

  • Thanks for uploading!

  • I have waited for years to see William Hartnell transform into Patrick Troughton. Troughton was great as the Doctor.

  • My childhood was painted cheesy costumes like these. It's good to see them again.

  • im watching this o pass the time until doctor who cmes on the new episode i think its called hungry earth

  • It's neat to see how the series was transitioning at this point. The stories were becoming more action-oriented and "adult" (as in the 60s TV version of adult). Just look at the girly posters above the Private's bunk. We wouldn't have seen something like that only 2 years before. The pace has been accelerated and from this point on most stories followed the template of The Tenth Planet. Of course this is at very embryonic stage of the game, but you can clearly see where it was headed.

  • It was great getting to see this when they released it on VHS, and the reconstruction of the missing 4th episode was great, but they didn't do much cleanup work on the first 3 episodes. I guess they had neither the time nor money left over to do it, but it would have been nice to actually HEAR what people are saying through the static. It was a lot better than the VHS release of Tomb of the Cybermen though. They rushed that one out and it had jump cuts, pops & crackles aplenty due to neglect.

  • I watch the newer ones but these are great!

  • "A WOMAN", Lmao

  • Christ, you have the Tenth planet?

Thought that was missing from the BBC lol.

  • quite realistic special effects, the snow and wind...not bad for 1965...

  • 1986, wow imagine what life will be like in 1986.

  • I thought it was practically all destroyed?

  • thank you so much

  • Is the "ticker tape" effect seen during the credits a product of the reconstruction or was it part of the original broadcast?

  • Part of the original

  • @Rhubba : How very charming. :-)

  • They did some experimenting with the episode titles that season: The War Machines uses a Data 70 title card.

  • @Rhubba what's a data 70 title card, I guess my memory had gone bad but I don't remember the diference from the start from other episodes and the war machines one but my local pbs channel did have a way with recutting the episodes so you did not see individual starts and ends to the black and white episodes it would just run its course like a 1-3 hour movie at 1am in the morning on sundays. They no longer play the oldest episodes or lately any of the new ones on KTEH channel 54 in San Jose

  • @moxie96 Data 70 Typeface was a trendy, science fiction font which was used widely in TV and films from the 60s and 70s. It's the typeface you see in the original Rollerball. Fortunately, the DVD release of The War Machines restored and repaired the episode titles which, like the Tenth Planet, were tailored for the story.

  • For the record, episodes 1-3 exist and the only one missing is episode 4, which someone has animated.

  • the bbc does have copies of episodes 1-3 and a loose canon version of episode 4 which was released on vhs video round about 10 years ago probably hard to get hold of a copy now. hopefully be on dvd soon.

  • unfortunatly there won't be a dvd release of this story. :(

  • how in hell did you get this theres only ment to one clip from this left. i dont think even the bbc has got this

  • WOW!

How on earth did you get this! I almost gave up on trying to look for it. You're cool!

  • I have always wanted to see these episode, it's a shame that same of them are lost.

  • Its amazing you have this ep - The BBC wiped it along with a load of other episodes and are trying to restore it lol

  • I think that the entire artic base thing is supposed to be a secretly funded thing, maybe by UNIT or Torchwood

  • Lol 1986, yeah computers must be doing ALL the work. I guess they were a bit disappointed when 1986 came in the real world. Good classic Dr Who though. Gotta love those cybermen.

  • wow i love this episode

    thanks for uploading

  • cool intro tune!

  • This needs a DVD release.

  • @thisiswierdX3 Teenagers rule?? Please, for your own credibility, DO NOT say things like that! It makes you sound like you're from the 1950s!!

    What makes you think that?

(I'm guessing you're not including the under-12's, because that would just be unfair.)

  • @jamesdean220103 Kids don't know a good thing when they see it, and that is all I am going to say on it. lol xxx
