Actually, the military is doing a pretty good job, which is why Iraq isn't getting much coverage anymore. Everyone agrees that the solutions in Iraq are political, not military, but you can't have a complete political process until there is security.
Iraq is not the war on terror. The War on Terror is intangible. It is psychology and nuance. McCain fell right in line behind Bush and supported the Iraq war. In April of last year, he was still calling it "Necessary and just". McCain is an old military guy - a relic of last century. America is doomed if it doesn't release it's frightened grip on the past. We need to be bold again - and bold looks toward the future. Not the past.
In other words, we're failing, just in a slightly different way than most people are saying. Except for the security bit, which is pretty much the same thing as everyone is saying.
Your guy served and everybody respects that. Yet he has as much experience in LEADING the armed forces as Obama or any past candidate before they actually became President. So grow up and start posing real issues, if of course there are any.

Unless you go back to Ike, or perhaps JFK, you are correct that most presidential candidates have little hands on experience leading troops in battle. However, it would be nice if the next president had at least served in the military prior to being responsible for commanding it, as opposed to hanging out with friends who still brag about bombing the Pentagon.

I think the DNC made a fair comprimise. Hillary wont be happy until she gets a coronation. Her campaign sounds like Karl Rove. If McCain wins it will be Hillarys fault. The only reason its gone on this long is because Hillary is a hedge bet for big business. Hillary took more contributions(bribes) from healthcare greedheads than anybody in congress. Really, because, as I'm sure you know, Obama serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. While not military service, it seems quite relevant as a qualification for commander in chief.
By the way, if military service is a prerequisite for the presidency, how'd W's National Guard service work out for the country?

W was in the national guard from 1968 to 1974 as an F-102 pilot. He logged a total of 336 flight hours. Most of his service was in Texas but he later transferred to a unit near Boston. LBJ & Nixon didn't call up the guard for Vietnam.

Actually, the military is doing a pretty good job, which is why Iraq isn't getting much coverage anymore. Everyone agrees that the solutions in Iraq are political, not military, but you can't have a complete political process until there is security.

Iraq is not the war on terror. The War on Terror is intangible. It is psychology and nuance. McCain fell right in line behind Bush and supported the Iraq war. In April of last year, he was still calling it "Necessary and just". McCain is an old military guy - a relic of last century. America is doomed if it doesn't release it's frightened grip on the past. We need to be bold again - and bold looks toward the future. Not the past.

Unless you go back to Ike, or perhaps JFK, you are correct that most presidential candidates have little hands on experience leading troops in battle. However, it would be nice if the next president had at least served in the military prior to being responsible for commanding it, as opposed to hanging out with friends who still brag about bombing the Pentagon.

In the end it doesn't matter which way you slice it, she lost and she's only done herself a disservice by refusing to exit gracefully.
